I think she's just trying to cover for her not really knowing either....would look pretty bad if BW's own employees don't understand the ending.

Does it matter if she can even answer that question, when there are ten thousand questions she can't answer because the developers simply were incapable of meeting their end of the reader-writer contract?
No, I contend it doesn't matter at all. The entire ending needs to be wadded up into a pile of tripe, tied with a lovely polka-dotted bow, and sent back to Bioware for revision.

And how did he pick up my crew from just outside of the beam? If he could get that close he could have dropped off reinforcements
Not to mention that the Normandy has more firepower then a dreadnought, it's worth more war points then some fleets even. It's the last ship that should be retreating..

"Admiral, some infantry died."
"Even Shepard?!"
"Seems so."
"PULL BACK!"
"Sir, we could just send more infantry. I mean, we must have someone on the ground that's been in the Citadel before. What about Spectre Agent (Ashley/Kaiden)? Or, Urdnot Wrex? Or Gar-"
"PULL THE LARGEST FLEET IN HISTORY BACK BEFORE THE OVERWHELMING GROUND FORCES DEVELOP ROCKET PACKS AND FLY UP HERE AND OVERWHELM US!"
"Sir..."
*Hackett's head explodes*

Major Coats: God... they're all gone.
Marine: Did we get anyone to the beam?
Major Coats: Negative. Our entire force was decimated.
Major Coats: It's too much. We need to regroup. Fall back to the buildings...
Marine: Hammer's wiped out. All forces... retreat.
Marine: Pull back! Pull back!
Hmmm...may have some basis. Still doesn't explain how Garrus got back on there though.

Or he's at some odd angle where you can't see him from the Crucible. Hackett was guarding it the whole time so he either got owned or fled while three measly cruisers defended it.
Which is kind of moot because no one was attacking the Crucible anyway.

Exactly. If they were fine why didnt they continue the charge? I would like to think that Garrus at the least if seeing Shepard go down wouldnt be like, "Ah well, time to leave." Hell be screaming bloody murder and probably charging even faster. And I know for a fact Javik wouldn't go back.
I do like the charge though. The idea of it. How the fate of the galaxy has come down to this one run toward a beam of light. I can just imagine all these soldiers screaming as they run toward it.

When the order was given, the relays were still around, going home to regroup was still an option.
So what do the fleets need to escape? The same thing they've always needed. Someone to stay behind to keep the enemy busy.
Hackett has already sacrificed fleets for the sake of retreats before, he'd have to do it at earth too.

To be fair, Hackett is either dead or himself pulled back too.

Hackett is alive...You *hear* him over the comms a whole 3 minutes before tu rning it on. He also knows you are alive. He and the rest of the fleet are still protecting the crucible, normandy has no reason to hit FTL. The wave even passes harmlessly over the fleet, as it's still fighting reapers.
