FTL in Mass Effect means ~12 lightyears per day. So an FTL jump to our nearest neighbor would take about 8 or so hours.

So not only did the game turn Shepard into a conforming coward, it turned everybody else into selfish cowards. Smiling and looking joyfully at the sky on an unknown planet without knowing what had happened.

The order was for Hammer(the ground force) to pull back.
Sword was still fighting and when on the Citadel Hammond tells you the Crucible isn't firing.
As he was still there to confirm it. There was no retreat order for Sword.

Game set match.

why didn't the fleet rain hell on harbinger instead of watching him glass their only hope ground force?

I wondered this too. I remember hearing a voice over the radio ordering a detachment of dreadnoughts and crusiers to stop Harbinger and co. If nothing else they could have put themselves between Harbinger and London and dared him to do a Kamikazie run. Hell they could have set off some nukes in the upper atmosphere and ****ed with their ability to navigate properly.
Litterally ANYTHING would have been better than letting them batter Hammer into oblivion.

I'd like to know why, if your companions are alive to be rescued by the Normandy, they would've left you in the first place...everything we know from the series so far tells you that if they could walk they would be staggering onto the Citadel right beside you.

Doesn't make sense to me.

This. They were fighting for their very existence. From the beginning, their entire goal is to get someone to the Conduit. Then they do nothing when they get there. I don't get it.

Yes, it makes sense.

They DID call a retreat and a withdrawal.  Many people choose to ignore that little item.

Somehow, I find this "explanation" offensive. It completely contradicts what we know about Joker and the rest of the crew. The would follow Shepard to death.

Retreat? Not until we find Shepard. Dead or alive. We owe him that much.

No they didn't Coates said HAMMER retreat and regroup because no one at the final push made it to the Citadel.

That's Hammer, ground troops.

Sword, fleets of all races, were not pulling back and Normandy was part of it.
Hell, Hackett was still sending that Crucible to the Citadel and then even put it when Shepard open the arms.

So, why would Sword retreat again?

For sure it was her thinking of the ending and nothing official. That doesn't explain anything... for example the squadmates in Normandy

That seems strangely out of line with her other tweet saying that Joker didn't make it to the Charon relay.

If you listen to the orders after Harbinger's laser, it's a retreat of the ground forces for a regrouping. It's not a retreat of the fleet.

Explanation fail.

This.

Exactly this, its a fall back a regroup order.

I was waiting the ... for the order to rain...  Heaven and Hell upon Harbinger when he landed. ... it never came... I was sad.

Like Joker would ever pull back when all these people from his ship are still on Earth or the Citadel.

Not to mention why he would make some ridiculously hard stop on Earth to pick up just ONE of the Normandy crew stranded there and then fly off...
