I've had this same discussion with somebody else.
I don't feel like retyping the whole argument.
But basically, the more you read and know about the Bible and ancient Hebrew history, you'll see they share way too many more similarities with the Jews than the Roma/Gypsies.

It's kind of hard to convince people of these points when pretty much no one reads the Bible anymore. No context. Le sigh.

...Or you could just accept that they're a bunch of aliens wearing hoods and enviro-suits. That seems to roll well with me. I can understand trying to link them to a group of people, but frankly, there's no need.
And for some reason, no one goes around calling the Turians "Bloody romans", so I think that people tend to class the Quarians as Jews or Gypsies as an insult.
