The final enemy of Mass Effect 3. Named due to his enemy type and health bar designation of "shields."
Shepard's last foe in Mass Effect 3, and by extension the Final Boss of the Mass Effect trilogy.
His origins are shrouded in mystery.  It is thought he initially set out to persuade Commander Shepard to turn back in an attempt to spare players the agony of the Starchild, and from an ending many thought to be unsatisfying.
However, there was an apparent breakdown of communications, and he was slain by Shepard.
Marauder Shields must be fought while Shepard is bleeding heavily from being nearly killed after a blast from Harbinger's laser wiped out the entire Hammer team. Due to this, he can kill Shepard in only a couple of shots - the first of which cannot be avoided.
To counter this, Shepard must perform head shots on Marauder Shields in order to stagger him long enough to kill him while preventing him from getting another attack in.

He didn't die, he merely saw that Shepard's resolve was strong, and kindly let Shepard pass.

Best way to teach him that they're both on the same side, have him experiance the ending himself.

He knew the ending was coming and so he allowed Shepard to pass so that we could see that crap and start the whole "we want a different ending" and that way he would get his real final battle with Shepard.
He's so evil and powerful he manipulated Shepard, the writers, and us just to get his plan started.

Marauder Shields always has a cunning plan to escape if things go wrong - he changes his name to Marauder Health and hopes nobody realizes it's the same guy.

When Marauder Shields first appeared back in Mass Effect 1, the Reapers had tried splicing him with frog DNA and forcing him to drink Red Bull. Unfortunately, it made Sovereign laugh, during which time the Reaper was blown to pieces.

Marauder Shields has since been dried out and had his frog DNA removed because the Reapers could not risk that happening to the entire fleet - they have enough problems trying not to snigger too much as Anderson constantly runs around looking for cover.
