I have a weird issue that I've looked all over the web for, but no luck. When I play Baldur's Gate 2 on my Windows 7 64 bit system, I have absolutely no problems installing or running it. There is only one issue: the keyboard automatically types in random numbers at name and save file creation. Even during gameplay, like if it constantly puts in 3, it will select the character portrait in the third slot no matter what I do. I have no clue how to stop this from happening. It's different numbers each time I start it up. It makes it impossible to play.
I have USB keyboard, and don't have a PS/2 port so I can't test if that's the issue.
I have tried every compatibility mode and ran in administrator mode. Nothing. I have the most recent patch installed. No mods. Is there anying other detail you guys need?
Thanks in advance.

Any wireless devices (e.g. mouse) or hotkey software etc?

I have a wireless mouse and that's unfortunately all I have at the moment.
A simple reboot of your system - Tried that. Didn't work.
stuck key on keyboard - bang on key to get it unstuck. - My keyboard is only three months old and none of the keys are stuck.
bad keyboard - unplug keyboard while play BG2 - Tried that as well. Nothing.
USB/wireless keyboard that BG doesn't like - unplug USB keyboard or disable wireless board - I tried a different USB keyboard. Same problem.
USB hub sending wierd signals - unplug hub - Don't have a hub.
These last three I have questions.
SysTray keyboard software - disable while playing BG2 (What is SysTray keyboard software?)
some other app interfering - shutdown all other software (Everything? Even background applications?)
DirectX upgrade (Does this mean I should upgrade or that the upgrade is interfering?)
Thanks.

You could try switching the mouse off when on the name screen and see if the problem stops, assuming it just has a standard windows driver and not something that is mouse specific.
I doubt it is DirectX. The systray type of software is usually to enable hotkey functions such as where a keyboard has wifi or browser specific buttons in addition to the normal keyboard layout, or for mice with extra buttons or custom button mappings etc. Used to be common but I'm not so sure that's the case nowadays.

1. 80% of the time this is what’s causing the issues. Spend $10 bucks on a new mouse... USB is normally ok but PS2 is best.
2a. Some gaming mice/ boards have software that runs little extras like key mapping & American products are notorious for their hidden tracking apps... a healthy system has no trouble adding the extra load but you can use software like *Spybot - Search & Destroy* to tell you what’s running on your system and give you hints about what’s safe to turn off.
2b. Certain types of anti-virus programs can interfere with the monitoring systems eg. Behaviour monitoring software... they typically have a way to turn them off temp or add exemptions.
3. You can play the game so it could only reasonably be a missing/ corrupted file (re-install it)... I seriously doubt it but in theory it is possible.
