Why do guys play as FemShep?

I've looked over most walkthroughs on youtube, and pretty much all of them play as femshep.
My friends play as femshep too.....and its not even on their second playthrough.
Like....why? I don't get it....do they do that JUST for seeing some lesbian action? Jeez....

EDIT:
Some of you asked whats my take on this, and why do I think its wrong? Well.....
Its not wrong. It just seems stupid. If you are a guy, you can never truly relate to a female character.
And if your gay, why wont you play as a gay maleshep?
It just doesnt make sense for guys to play as femshep, unless you're sexually confused.

EDIT 2:
Okay, just to be clear.....ME gives you a chance to step into a virtual world, and do stuff you never could do right? Given that chance, that opportunity to save the galaxy and stuff, forge relationships in game, why would you choose to be represented as a female? The voice acting or whatever your reason is....you're still playing as femshep. I can understand that only if you consider yourself female.
And this is probably the stupidest thing I've read so far - some folks have said they don't play as a male shep because they rather stare at femshep's ass during the game.....wow.....I...don't know what to say. Are you serious? but You ARE femshep! She is you! would you get off looking at your own ass? A game is not like seeing a movie folks....you're actually playing as yourself.

I'm NOT talking to the people who play as femshep in their later playthroughs....this is for the folks who exclusively play as femshep. And I just don't get that. Maybe this discussion is pointless...

I love her acting and her armor.

If she was voiced by Chobot, I'd probably play as menshep.

I like seeing chicks rip s*it up. Also, I stopped trying to make characters look like me a long time ago, like in middle school. I just could never get it right, lol.

Also, I <3 Jennifer Hale.

Jennfier Hale provides a performance that creates a more nuanced Shepard character, and for the most part it's absolutely derivative to play another Male lead when you have the choose of the opposite.

This is the one and only reason I played as Femshep through each ME game. After about 3-4 hours of playing male Shepared in ME1 I couldn't stand that voice anymore.

the male face models in this game look so brutish, huge noses square jaws, I don't like using the default model but i've been unable to make a face I like either.

Though I do have more male shep. saves simply because of how many more LI's there are for him

Wait, weren't you the guy who made a thread asking the same thing? As in "why do "bboys" play girls in ME3", or something like that.

On topic: I only play Femshep on a second or third playthrough, to see what's different.

Well part of playing RPG's is playing a role you would never get a chance to in real life. So why not play a woman. I've played men and women and had relationships in game with both female and male characters.

I am a female who only plays a male Shep....a few reasons for me:

1/ Primarily, Hales voice acting doesn't sit well with me, I much prefer Meer, in fact I find his voice attractive.

2/ Eye candy for me....made my custom Shep to the specifications of what I find physically attractive.

3/ I love the idea of a courageous man who will not hesitate to protect his own and others....the old chivalry thing I guess.

Historical reasons; "male space marine saves the world" seemed cliche in ME1 and kinda stuck.

Thanks to the likes of the Alien and Terminator franchises, I'm a big fan of strong women. I do prefer playing as Male Shepard, but on some of my subsequent playthroughs, I enjoy playing Female Shepard for that reason. Nothing wrong with a woman that can kick my backside.

I didn't have too much trouble with the male nose in ME1 & 2, once I worked around the fact that Shep just happens to have a large nose (went with the narrowest dipped version)...but though ME3 has done beautiful things with his face, improved it wonderfully, the nose has gone to hell, I am still trying to work out what to do about that one let down.

I'm a woman, and I prefer playing as Sheploo. I think that the animations works a lot better with his face since it doesn't cause clipping and the face looks doesn't look cartoonish, like most custom sheps + default femshep does. I prefer Mark Meers voice acting as well. I also enjoy watching a man rather than a women.

It all just boils down to preferences, no matter your gender.

A few reasons, which others have mentioned above. Jennifer Hale's VA work is amazing (in ME1 & 2 at least... talking to Jacob notwithstanding. That just made me feel ickyh), the pure awesomeness of femme Shep headbutting Krogans and taking on Eldritch Abominations, and I really like reading (and writing) strong female characters.

Because it gives the playthrough a different flavor. OP why do you even care? I play as both Shepards because they both bring different things to the table.

That's already been asked in the ME2 forum.

I played a femshep since ME1 mainly because I prefer the voice acting. I also played a maleshep though but only in ME1. I tried the maleshep in ME2 up until I heard him say "I might do more than catch you Kelly", that was it. My ears had suffered enough.

So for ME3, femshep again.

Now my turn : why do some people need to ask these kinds of questions? Is it wrong to play a character the opposite gender? Are we breaking some kind of sacred law? Does it make us gay? And if it does what would be wrong about it? Your turn to answer those questions buddy.

I know...:(...and my Shep has remained single throughout the franchise for this very reason...but on the bright side, I do love the bromance he and Garrus share.......is awesome. Fanfic is going to have to repair my Sheps love life for me.......Kasumi blew my fanfic outta the water with her Jacob comment, but there is still Gianna....^_^.
