Some people don't like other peoples opinions it a real shame.

There are opinions and opinions. You are right about something: I hate lots of opinions. For example, mysogenistic ones.

I personally have only played FemShep once and that was in the Demo as far as I could tell they were both great in there own way but I have always played a Male character in RPG's and I don't think it's going to change anytime soon.

And that's 200% fine. Enjoy your roleplaying.

I've always wondered why, myself. Male Shepard is clearly better in every way, voice acting, character creation (in ME3), romances..

Someone hinted a while ago that males only play as females for the lesbian "sex scenes", but I wouldn't know.

I play a male Shepard for the same reason as my husband plays a female. It's easier on the eyes to watch male Sheaprds... *ahem* then a females *cough* jiggling. Just saying.

He does look good running. Run Shepard run! O_O Oh my...

It's absolutely hilarious that someone calling himself "Punk4Real" is hardcore against what he sees as deviant behaviour.

Bro, you may be many things, but you will never, ever, be a punk for real. You're the opposite of punk.

Im male, I play FemShep because she is bloody awesome!  :) B)

Plus she is a vastly better experience then maleshep.  I played maleshep in ME first,  it was fun,  FemShep was in a whole other league though!

Its a refreshing change in gaming to have a female protagonist treated as an equal and not an overly sexualised steriotype.  She something totally different and isnt the standard generic stoic action hero which maleshep is based on. You know that soldier that is a clone of so many other video games and movies I grew up watching and playing. Its got a bit old now.  Its amazing how different and awesome the FemShep experience is in comparision!   Plus Jen Hale really adds something extra special.

Theres a reason why I've seen the motto "FemShep or your doing it wrong" so many times!  Its the truth!  :)

Everyone has their preferences. I don't think Jennifer has any shortage of fans though.

Not everyone plays as a self-insert character. Other people play from a totally different perspective. Is this really a topic?

Cool. Everyone has a right to their own opinions, and there are people who believe one voice actor is better than the other and vice versa..it's simply a matter of opinion. ;)

Haha, sorry. I'm not trying to be inflammatory or anything. I just don't think that either actor is "clearly" better.:P

Oh, and by the way. I have 3 of each for each class as well. Much more fun than hearing the same voice through 6 play throughs.

I like both VAs. I enjoy seeing everything the game has to offer, and I'm utterly secure in my own identity.

I don't need the game avatar to be male for me to identify, or for me to be comfortable.

EDIT:
Some of you asked whats my take on this, and why do I think its wrong? Well.....
Its not wrong. It just seems stupid. If you are a guy, you can never truly relate to a female character.
And if your gay, why wont you play as a gay maleshep?
It just doesnt make sense for guys to play as femshep, unless you're sexually confused.

EDIT 2:
Okay, just to be clear.....ME gives you a chance to step into a virtual world, and do stuff you never could do right? Given that chance, that opportunity to save the galaxy and stuff, forge relationships in game, why would you choose to be represented as a female? The voice acting or whatever your reason is....you're still playing as femshep. I can understand that only if you consider yourself female.
And this is probably the stupidest thing I've read so far - some folks have said they don't play as a male shep because they rather stare at femshep's ass during the game.....wow.....I...don't know what to say. Are you serious? but You ARE femshep! She is you! would you get off looking at your own ass? A game is not like seeing a movie folks....you're actually playing as yourself.

I'm NOT talking to the people who play as femshep in their later playthroughs....this is for the folks who exclusively play as femshep. And I just don't get that. Maybe this discussion is pointless...

I play exclusively as femshep.

Why?

First the voice acting is far from superior, it's awesome cause jennifer hale did an excelent job recording the voice of femshep. Makes maleshep looks like a **** in terms of "renegade options".

Second , like you said is a virtual world so i choose not to play as Male sheppard. Why? Because it will be boring. I hate how all the games standardizes all the "hero" to be a  male. And that's when ME does an excelent job adding the exception.

She's a girl, her gender is weak (no meant to offense a lady) but still she does manage to pwn all the bad guys and save the galaxy . How amazing is that? Think about that ;).

With your point of view, nobody should play any Tomb Raider game because they don't let you choose to play as male, right?

Third, yeah i like the staring and if i reencarnate into a woman i would touch my own ass and other stuff,so that point isn't good to put in a example.

Fourth , my femshep is not always lesbian and i'm surely know i'm not gay but since ME is open to all kind of stuff is just a matter of taste whether you go for the "gay romances" or not.

This is my point of view,i started playing ME since the day it launched and played as a Male. But when i discovered the female shep, well it was a point of no return.

You quite literally can't know that.  There have been plenty of female leads in action and RPG titles.  Even if they tend to sell less, ME is ME, Hale or Meer.  Still, I would prefer choice of who and what your character is.

I want to use femshep because of the femshep boxart. She looks so cool on it. I'm also a fan of Hale. Big fan actually.

Unfortunately, her model is disturbed, and her face only looks good "sometimes" (but I suppose that's dependent on default or not). Her proportions are nuts and her body contorts and twists in her casual outfit in a similarly freakish way. The other women in the game look a "bigger" than her, and thus off, like she's way too small for the role. People talk to her like she's a man, and you can tell. It feels like a shoe-horned female role. Her voice actress is constantly melodramatic - too complacent in the role?  Maybe it was the voice directing.  I know Hale's a good voice actress.

I don't really have good answer to this question. Why do I play as female Shepard, because I can and it's something different. Even if I'm playing a female Shepard and I end up making all the same decisions that I made with my male Shepard it still manages to feel new and different. Sometimes it's just the benefit of seeing a new character model ( and shape from male Shepard ), sometimes it's the delivery of the lines that makes it different, new 'romance' possibilities come up and it's a chance to do something different from the norm. Every now and again we also get a 'rare' treat and female Shepard has separate animations to her male counterpart or unique dialogue and/or scenes ( like right before Archangels recruitment mission in ME2 ). These things matter when you have half a dozen or more male Shepards and you just want a new gameplay experience.

Because I am a straight male and I like to watch strong, beautiful women kick galactic ass...

First reply summed it up nicely. Some of my favorite fictional characters are strong women. In fact, my all time favorite fictional character is Motoko Kusanagi, from Ghost in the Shell. I saw a lot of the Major in FemShep, especially from ME2 onwards when she is basically a cyborg.

Why do I like strong female characters? That’s a bit trickier to determine, cus even I’m not sure. I know many people would think it’s a sex thing, and I won't deny that I'm attracted to strong women. So, that is definitely part of it. But I think it’s more because women, traditionally, play the “damsel” role in fiction. The hero has to “save the world and get the girl” for the story to feel “complete”. Casting a woman in the hero role goes against the status quo, and in a way, feels somewhat rebellious. It makes the story more meaningful in that said woman not only had to overcome her enemies, but also modern preconceptions of what makes a hero. And that makes her even hotter:P

Sadly, few video games (and media in general) pull off strong female characters well, so I always feel like the only way to get a strong female character is by playing as one myself (which, I admit, is a bit weird if I say it that way o.O).

And, of course, Hale is a hell of a voice actress.

When ME2 came out on the PS3, Bioware release stats about the most played class/gender/most often made choices and things like I that, so on my first play through I did all of the least popular stuff which included playing as a girl.

However, I ended up playing through ME2 about four times and only one of them (my first) was a Femshep, the rest of the time I played as Maleshep. Who cares though? Let people play how they want.

I play as FemShep because I am a lady. Also, I don't care for Mark Meer's monotone voice acting style in ME1, but he's a lot better in ME2.

Lolwut.  I play as a male Shepard as well (I have 3 Shepards), just to see a different spin on the game.  Many people play different Shepards. Not all players characterize themselves in Shepard or play a certain gender because they can relate to the character.  That's just absurd.
