It's a loooong story. Basically revolves around me discovering the BSN, finding the Femshep thread, deciding to try it out, and being blown away by Jennifer Hale's delivery. Two years later, I cannot bring myself to play dudeshep for extended periods of time, because he just doesn't feel like Shepard to me.

And no, it's not that I think I can relate to my Shep. She isn't some vicarious extension of my personality or something, she's a character in a game. A character whose story I really enjoy.

This. I'm not Shepard, it's pretty much irrelevant if Shepard is male or female. It still wouldn't be me. I consider myself as observer of Shepard's story and for me Shepard is female. She's my hero in this story. I see no reasons what so every why it would always have to be guy.

I never understood this line of reasoning. Who plays a game just to stare at the main character's ass? You'd be dying non stop.

Maybe the reason I play FemShep, besides voiceacting (this can be applied to any game where I can choose gender), is for the fact that 90s and early 2000 video games forced me to play as the stereotypical buff military dudes, renegade bad ass dudes, or the underdog nobody boys. I kind of wanted to break the stereotype. You don't know how excited I was to play a female character in a POKEMON GAME! XD CRYSTAL VERSION B*(CHES!

Yep when I do it's because of the butt view, voice and pretty face.. well Red hair, hard stern fiery look.
Same reason girl gamers play as manShep and have guy characters around.. Eyecandy.

Also I tend to play certain roles differently, and a few times FemShep acted more in role.
Though I stick to male characters more.

I've looked over most walkthroughs on youtube, and pretty much all of them play as femshep. 
My friends play as femshep too.....and its not even on their second playthrough.
Like....why? I don't get it....do they do that JUST for seeing some lesbian action? Jeez....

Some of you asked whats my take on this, and why do I think its wrong? Well.....
Its not wrong. It just seems stupid. If you are a guy, you can never truly relate to a female character.
And if your gay, why wont you play as a gay maleshep? 
It just doesnt make sense for guys to play as femshep, unless you're sexually confused.

Okay, just to be clear.....ME gives you a chance to step into a virtual world, and do stuff you never could do right? Given that chance, that opportunity to save the galaxy and stuff, forge relationships in game, why would you choose to be represented as a female? The voice acting or whatever your reason is....you're still playing as femshep. I can understand that only if you consider yourself female.
And this is probably the stupidest thing I've read so far - some folks have said they don't play as a male shep because they rather stare at femshep's ass during the game.....wow.....I...don't know what to say. Are you serious? but You ARE femshep! She is you! would you get off looking at your own ass? A game is not like seeing a movie folks....you're actually playing as yourself. 


I'm NOT talking to the people who play as femshep in their later playthroughs....this is for the folks who exclusively play as femshep. And I just don't get that. Maybe this discussion is pointless...

What's wrong with it?  Personally, when I considered myself pagan, I worshipped goddesses.  Essentially, I worshipped women.  I've always had respect for women, and I love strong women.  I also believe in equality, and think women should get more time in the spotlight than they get, and find that a badass character like Shepard is even more badass when portrayed as a female.

I'm in the process of working on a story (have been for a few years, just haven't sat down to decide where I want to begin).  The two leads are women, one 16 the other 40.  Both are badass military, set in the future during a war.  There are males that are main characters as well, but the two females have the spotlight.  I guess, honestly, I'm just a big fat lib.

And in this, you aren't playing yourself.  When I play table-top roleplaying games, I'm actually becoming the character.  I have a harder time playing a female then.  That character can do or say ANYTHING I want him or her to say.  That character is created by me, for me.  Shepard, whether male or female, is never my character.  She's just a character I'm playing, and have a limited amount of control over.  I'm not a badass military space hero hanging out with aliens.  It's like saying, "why do you play Tomb Raider/Resident Evil 3/Metroid?"  It's a silly, nonsensical question.

I already loved Jennifer Hales voice acting as Bastila Shan, so for me it was just a given to play FemShep. In comparison to ManShep, the voice acting is a lot better (no offense to Meer). Lot more engaging.
