Lesbo sex scene is the only reason I would consider it.

Why not just go watch porn? I mean, it's the internet.

This.

Yea, I would, but I need my shooter fix as well.  Alt tabing back and forth is just too annoying :)

You realize that porn would getcha the full package instead of this half-assed cuddling, suitable for Fox News at most?:P

My reasons?

1) Because I've already played a male space Jarhead 20X over in other games.

2) Because if I have to stare at an arse for 30+ hours, I'd like it to be a nice one.

3) Because Jennifer Hale's voice acting was superior (for the most part) to Mark Meer's (I'll concede happily that he stepped up in the sequels)

4) Because I grew out of the self-insertion and empowerment approach to playing video games about 20 years ago.

5) Because I'm reasonably competent at constructing anatomically correct faces, so why not?

If you stare at your character's ass the whole game you'll miss a lot of scenery...and other characters...and enemies who are trying to kill you...not to mention that Shepard's ass isn't even visible for large portions of the game.

I am male, in body if not always in spirit, and I play as a woman because that's how I feel more comfortable and immersed. Simple as that.

My first playthrough of ME1 was with a femshep. It's hard playing the game as a male Shep now, it just doesn't feel right.

Strangely one of my reasons is to do with the body model - I like maleshep, but not to keen on how bulky his model is and how it looks on the screen from the back when you're in combat.
Femshep doesn't take up as much space.

Second reason is obviously Hale. I very much like maleshep's voice and rate them equally, but I can't deny myself the experience of hearing Hale's work.

Thrid is breaking the generic caucasian male action hero sterotype.

Finally I don't consider mysef to be Shepard, which I think is the main argument of people who can't relate to femshep. I see myself as directing an elaborate adventure in which femshep is the starring character.
Of course the decisions I make for her reflect my personality, but that's the extent of it.

If I am going to be staring at an ass for 40+ hours, I'm going to at least make me not feel weird while doing it.

Also, the dialogue changes in areas and it is nice to play a different view point.

This. Unless the game was called Ass Effect and the gameplay was staring at Miranda's ass for 30 hours watching it change colors.

why do guys play as fem shep? because they secretly want to be a girl, even the ones that give excuses for other reasons. they just are not ready to come out of the closet.

Female shepard looks and sounds better to me, that is all.

For me there is no difference between male and a female other than genitalia, so I CAN relate to a female character, she will just romance men instead of women, that is all there is to it, everything else is the same.

I like badass women. What kind of man doesn't?

But, I still play as Male Shepard. Because I am a man after all.

The first response to this thread is the best.

Also, if you think men can "never relate" to a woman, you haven't met enough guys, or checked the gender of the author of every book you've read. Men can't completely feel every aspect of a woman's life simply because the won't experience it all, but they can "relate" and empathize, especially if they've been around women enough.

it has nothing to do with relating to male or female. What we relate to is the heroic struggle of the hero. Both sheps make the same decisions, and in no point in the game does the choice you make has any repercussions on the story to make you choose a female over male (or the other way around).

I choose to play as femshep because I like JH better. Also because I like to look at preety characters. And I would prefer to look at females over males in any universe. Also, JH voice acting is superb. Too good actually. Imho of course.

Originally I just played Femshep for variety, but JH Voice acting is soooo good that it almost makes it hard to play as ManShep. Frankly I think Jennifer Hale is just boss.

Lesbian action never hurts either.

No, it's pointless. I am what I am, and I don't really care. If I was a girl I would be a girl, I am a guy. And the only difference there is, is I have balls.

31 old male gamer, to answer the original question.

I started as male default Shep, but Jennifer Hale makes better voice acter IMO and ME3 feels much better as a FemShep with the whole emotion thingy going on in certain sequences and certain dialogue with especially "Eve" and EDI if you are going Paragon. The story just seems better suited to a FemShep than a MaleShep...

Thats why I play as a FemShep now, scrapping my John Default Shepard I considered canon before, for my female soldier. It just feels... Better, storywise.

I agree with OP, though you all have fine reasons for picking Femshep, I still find it odd.

Playing as MaleShep makes me feel a lot more connected to the character. It helps me relate more to him and the relationships he forms.

and also, you cant get wit' Tali as FemShep~

Personally I feel more 'connected' when I play a female character not just in ME but any game. the inability to create a female character has been a deal breaker infact when considering purchasing a game. Make of that what you will.

My first character ever on ME1 was a male shep and then i decided to make a femshep after i beat the game with him. I realized that i like Jennifer Hales voice acting a lot better than Mark Meers and havent played a male shep since.

- Hale's VAing is superior.
- ME provides a unique chance to actually play as a female that breaks common female conventions. I play as a brosoldier in just about every other game; it's nice to see a change.
- 'Cause I enjoy looking at her through 100+ hours of gameplay than BroShep...?

oh but the "i like looking at a bunch of polygons because they remind me of a girl's ass" is brilliant?  anyone who states that is fooling themselves.  they want to be a girl, simple as that.  if you want to look at girls asses, im sure there are a few magazines, clubs, web sites where you can actaully view the derrier of a real women (not fake women) till your hearts desire.
