With the unique effect of each element (Fire causes DoT, Cold slows and sometimes freezes, Lightning drains Stamina), massive AoE for many spells, party-wide buffs, and a lot of Shattering/Control due to Petrify, Stone Fist, and many Ice/Earth spells Dragon Age looks like one of the very few games where playing a Blaster Mage will be both tactically challenging as well as interesting and viable.
Plus, Friendly Fire is tied directly to difficulty and Primal spells are the main ones that suffer that issue, which points out they should be extremely powerful.
Anyone else is going to play a Primal-only Mage?

I was originally planning Entropy only. Until I found out Morrigan's starting spells. Now I'm half entropy, 1 line primal, Blood Mage, and 1 line Spirit.

I'm planning on going all primal, definitely. It seems to be an explosively fun Mage spec. =P

I'm grabbing two Primal lines for sure...I feel like there's a bit of overlap between fire/lightning and earth/ice so I doubt I'll get more than that.
If you wanted to go straight up blaster mage you'll also have a few more talent points to spend -- any idea where you'll put those?

Maybe get Spell Might, the most basic Heal, and then all the way into Arcane Warrior for Fade Shroud for a great defense/Mana regen bonus.
An alternative is dropping one of the two options above and maxing out the basic Mage line for the Spellpower bonus if its high enough.
Mechanically Blood Mage would be better but my character's a jerk with a heart of gold so he wouldn't take it.

No, killing my foes with lightning and fire is way to unimaginative. My victims expect special treatment, not the run of the mill deal.

Well you get 24 spells total to choose from excluding the free arcane bolt so even with all 4 primal branches you still get 8 more spells...

No. Transforming into a giant spider and ripping my enemy to shreds with my fangs as their warm blood flushes into my maw has an irresistable appeal.

I'm only gonna invest in Primal if I have the free space after everything else... I'm gonna get at least half of Entropy, a line of Spirit, a line of Creation, all of the spec. talents (all 8), plus the Mage talent line so... It's gonna be tough when it comes time for decisions.
