Black Widow also does a lot more damage than Valiant. It's not really close. Black Widow is easily the best Sniper Rifle on Insanity imho. The recoil is not a problem.

when valiant is also one shotting regular mobs, two shotting shield/health mobs with half the weight, 3x the spare ammo mag and nearly zero recoil you won't touch the black widow ever again. actually you dont even need to bring any other weapon - not an ar, not a pistol or shotgun or anything. it's that good. the damage difference between a valiant and black widow before mods is actually tiny. if you were saying regular widow that's another story, but widow is a one shot then reload rifle.

the tiny bit of extra damage and armor piercing on the black widow pales when you can use a valiant and a chakram and have the same recharge rate as a black widow and a light weight pistol. i was like you once - thinkinkg it was the best. then i actually tried the valiant.

Took Marksman...and I prefer N7valiant over black widow damage increase is not that significant. Less recoil, faster reload time, way less weight for more power usage. Only advantage black widow has is that it does slightly do more damage and that it can pierce through light cover without mods.

Slam.

Slam has an insanely low cooldown, and hits instantly (so can't be dodged) and has a biotic combo booster (increasing radius and damage). It has a CD comparable to a fully maxed Liara singularity (itself also instant, and goes through cover to boot), so you can drop an undodgable biotic combo (which will kill any regular enemy in a large radius) every two seconds. This lets you clear the room of anything short of armored targets in a matter of moments, especially when combined with a shield-remover (EDI/Garrus/Tali). Once you can remove all the mooks quickly, the armored enemies aren't a big deal.

Biotic combo scales with difficulty, so it does a huge amount of damage on Insanity. Slam/SinguLiaraty makes most encounters completely trivial.

As a bonus, Slam is also a good way to amuse yourself. In particular, try to double slam something (hit a target with a second slam before the first slam finishes).

I personally use Defense Matrix. Take less damage, can purge it for shields, gets bonuses for being a tech power, and can do all kinds of sweet stuff depending on how you upgrade it (increasing tech power by 25% or decreasing shield-recharge delay time - either one is amazing).

On top of all that, it makes my Infiltrator look unstoppable. Which he is.

I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried defense drone on an infiltrator. I'm considering builds and thought this might be interesting to cover you while you are sniping. I've never really used it before though, is this skill any good?

The best choices, in order of bestness:

The Infiltrator needs a Shield Recharger such as Energy Drain or Defensive Matrix for combat endurance.

Proximity mines are an alternative for grenades, work in the same way.

Marksman.

Tungsten Ammo if you feel theres not enough armor puncture.

Carnage for replacing Incinerate. Not really a good choice, but hey why not?

BAD choice would be to get ANY biotic power because the Infiltrator is specifically a non-biotic. Chosing a biotic power is a fast way to break the class's unique gameplay.
