It's already been established that quarians share the closest resemblance to humans out of all the galaxy's species.
Closest ≠ close. (Necessarily.)
This is what I was referring to:
Quarians are generally shorter and of slighter build than humans. Quarians have an endoskeleton, lips, teeth, and two eyes with eyelids and tear ducts; they also have three thick fingers on both hands which include a thumb, an index finger, and a long finger, similar to the middle fingers for humans, as well as three toes on each foot. Quarian facial structure and hair actually makes them the most similar to humans in physical appearance. Their lower legs are bowed backwards significantly, compared to asari or humans. Aside from hands and legs, their general body shape and sexual dimorphism is similar to humans. Their ears or ear analogues differ in a noticeable fashion from those of humans, with references made to "what [passes] for the quarian version of an ear".However, I pulled up a cached version of the text (dated before the ME3 launch) and I realized the bold sentence was added in response to Tali's photo. The rest of the paragraph is a summarization of page 235 in
Mass Effect: Ascension.
I'll admit my bias then. I always pictured quarians closely resembling humans after reading a decent explanation a couple of years ago: quarians are "mammal analogues" that acquired human-like biological traits through convergent evolution. With that explanation as a basis, and seeing Tali's face for the first time... she fits what I had imagined.
I still stand by my opinion: I like the way she looks. The source being a stock photo is a trivial issue. I could nitpick and say that her hand is not accurate, but what matters to me the most is how her face reveal was limited to a photoshopped image. I
definitely would have preferred to see her face modeled and animated in 3D.
