Exactly. IMO, it is your DUTY as a consumer to bring bad business practices to light. Filing a complaint with the BBB and FTC is a perfectly MATURE way to do that.

It is anything but mature to file BBB  and/or FTC complaints over a video game ending you didn't like.

This isn't about the colorful ending, it's about false advertising and business practices..

No, it's about the ending and how some dislike it.

See my thread on the issue.  We were explicitly promised certain things that were not delivered, after the game was completed, based on cited sources.

I don't agree with personal attacks but review bombing and the like is fine in my book. As TotalBiscuit succinctly put the devs are not your friends they are only interested in your money. It is in your favour to kick up a fuss.

It's not. It's unprofessional, immature, counter-productive and ridiculous.

Sorry its called being realistic, they are not listening to feedback unless people make them listen.

And a child's temper-tantrum is the way to go when just asking for the toy doesn't work, fall down and spaz-out until mom gets you that toy....

Why are you being purposely dense about this?

Again, confusing the issue.  Two things are happening here:

1) Bad ending.
2) Lying to consumers to con them in to buying a product they can't return.

FTC is the correct response to number 2.  Which from the OPs post is what he/she is doing.

This.

The complaint I filed was not about the ending. It was about the lies and bait and switch EA/Bioware pulled to get my 80.00.

We were told this game would be one thing(Bait) and then it was not what we were promised(Switch).
I can not return the product for a refund or even a credit now because it's software.
That is the very definition of it and why I filed a complaint.

You're doing it because of the ending.

Why pretend otherwise? (Other than it makes you look small)

LOL. Maybe that's how marketing works in Fairy Land.

That's how marketing used to work. Now consumers are more then content to roll over and let companies walk all over them. This thread has shown me how many people are doing just that.

"Maybe if we're nice and patient the big, multi-billion dollar company will listen to us!"

Marketing NEVER worked like that.

But please, keep throwing tantrums. That ALWAYS works, right?

Empowered consumerism ftw. Let the media say what it will. They're only commentators. At the end of the day EA is responsible to its shareholders. Shareholders like happy customers.

At this point this is getting ridiculous on both sides. No matter the intend some of us here that support this persons actions and some those apposing it are making this just like Greek fire while others are trying to be civil and reasonable.

Hah. And just when I was starting to wonder when this will pop up. A full-fledged Cerberus and factional split incoming.

No offence meant. I actually do support the view that the present state of video gaming industry is pretty medieval and that developers and publishers should be held accountable for their business practices (DLC plague, advertisement, etc.).

The only problem is that this situation really is borderline with suing McDonald's for hot coffee. A complaint concerning the "From Ashes" DLC would make a lot more sense (and has more chances at succeeding at that). Personally, I think that the whole video gaming situation should be tackled at a legislative level, not judiciary. But oh well, enough dreaming on my part.

I wonder if PR at Bioware predicted this course of events. This was pretty obvious right from the start...

Well being that it is just a complaint not I lawsuit I don't really have problem.  If you do please don't let this split the movment.  this is just one person doing what he thinks is right,if you don't that is fine but it's no reason to get angry and leave.  No one is calling for everyone to file a complaint this just one person and a complaint is not a lawsuit and very few of them go to court.

Well, if people can sue McDonalds because the coffee they spill on themselves is hot AND WIN, nothing would surprise me.

don't forget about the lady who sued a RV company because she though cruise control was Idiot for autopilot, and got up to make a sandwich and crashed her winnebago

These are two entirely different issues BTW. The McDonalds suit was justified as McDonalds had already been fined multiple times by the health department for serving coffee at 190 degree temps, which BTW is so hot if you drank it you would be hospitalized.

The complaintant originally just asked for medical expenses for the 2nd and 3rd degree burns received. McDonalds told her to go F herself and she sued for medical expenses. The court awarded her punitive damages to punish McDonalds for blowing off the health department.

Good god will you stop freaking out, check their website. there are numerous complaints on there already and Bioware is neither regestered with nor has a good reputation with BBB. This likely isnt the first title to generate a complaint.

It's only crazy because people are making it crazy. Instead of just ignoring the one or two trolls and everyone getting along, they started tearing into this guy because they thought he was suing them. Even people in the RME started bashing him. It's sad, because his actions isn't what is going to discredit the whole "Retake Mass Effect", it is the movements reaction to him.

Right. Bullies are ALWAYS listened to. They are are the voice of reason......sure, they are.

Maybe this will help some of you understand what the BBB looks at for complaints.

I think that Bioware can easily have been said to fail some of these things. Honor VERBAL promises, Advertise honestly, build trust, and possibly being responsive

QFT. Thank you for showing this.

LOL. Maybe that's how marketing works in Fairy Land.

And this is why companies like EA keep screwing customers over. Because enablers like you keep bending over for them.

No, dearie. I simply know to separate ideals from the real world. And keep your assumptions to yourself.

I won't delve into any discussion whether the OP is right or wrong, but doesn't this mean that if you can file a complaint about (alleged - I'm staying neutral on this) false advertisement from Bioware then how many other game development studios can't we do the same to? Heck, I can probably dig out an entire pile of suspicious cases with Blizzard involved regarding World of Warcraft, and that is just one company and one game out of the thousands that exist.

You could even pull it so far as if a developer says "You will like this game", you buy it, play it and you don't like the game and it could be labelled as false advertisement as what was said contradicts your experience. Just think of the repercussions a successful case could bring.

Hurt our image? what are you even talking about?

He has a right as a consumer to complain if he feels he got a raw deal. Are you really campaigning against peoples right to legitimate complaint?

They're not BBB accredited though, so it doesn't mean much. I just had no idea their score was so low..
