Ha ha, this entire situation is hilarious. We're all here complaining on a freaking internet forum about Bioware's ending and how Bioware is not listening to us customers. Then, one of us customers sends a letter of complaint to a government body who can obviously FORCE Bioware to listen. Now everyone is suddenly UP IN ARMS and PANICKING, like a bunch of scared little girls caught putting on their mommies' make-up, suddenly afraid what a bunch of other internet nerds is gonna say about them on blogs and websites that are probably biased against them to begin with.

Grow up, children. If you can't take a few licks, then you don't deserve to call yourself a "movement." If you're complaining about something so mundane as a letter to the FTC and BBB, then you truly are just a bunch of whiny entitled kiddies. Grow a pair.

Jesus Christ.

I think El_Spiko should be applauded for taking a stand for something he feels so strongly about. Plenty of people on the forum have complained about the endings, but El_Spiko is the only one prepared to do anything about it.
As a long time fan of the franchise and someone who is yet to complete the third game or see all of the promotional material, it's impossible for me to say whether I agree or not with the complaint, but El_Spiko, I salute you for making it.

Actually, there is a charity drive that was organized ad hoc in another thread on BSN that is doing a charity drive and has raised almot $55,000 in two and half days for Child's Play.  This is a charity that donates toys and video games to sick kids that are stuck in the hospital.  The charity drive has been raising some really good press overall for the fans desire for a better ending for Mass Effect and at the same time we are doing something extremely positive.  Check it out here: retakemasseffect.chipin.com/retake-mass-effect-childs-play and the original thread is here: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/355/index/9845819

This is not a good idea, yes we're frustrated and want word from them. Yes we want our voices hear and are so far unsure if they really are but that's where patience and persistence comes in. Filing complaints like that just makes us look bad and quite frankly will hurt the cause as it won't provide us support but rather resistance.

Once more, here is my analogy for bad advertising (which OP was citing as their complaing)

Let say I order a plate. The ad says its a plate, the maker says its a plate, everything says its a plate before I buy. Now I get it and it's a bowl. No, its not the wrong product, its the one I bought, but its a bowl. It could be the best bowl I've ever hand in my life and I could love it, but I can still complain to the BBB about misleading advertising because its not what I was told it would be. It was a bowl, I was told it would be a plate.

I dont think this would have gone so far if BW just responded to this major issue . Obviously they havent whether they cant or just wont. It was only a matter of time before someone went there . I hope this all gets settled soon before its gets worse for all parties involved

They just won't. They could have along time ago said "We have heard your concerns about the ending and we are looking into it" and people would have been happy.

They ALREADY DID!

They danced around the issue saying they were listening and asking what was our favorite part of the game.

Ya, that statement was: "We are listening to you and we will answer your questions about the ending."

Which translates to: "We are hearing what you are saying and we are more then happy to try and explain away our poorly written ending while doing absolutely nothing about it."

This can only serve to "damage" the "movement" by making it look irrational.

No one is complaining about the action, mostly it's about the timing and lack of thought.  Many people are putting a lot of effort and thought into how to do this right and I don't know of any of those people who think this is a good idea right now.

About as much as some peoples response to this. On both sides.

If we let this become a defining moment in our desire to have a better ending then it will.

This isn't a good idea. The game has only been out for a week and a half, and I'm fairly certain that BioWare have something up their sleeves. I agree that the ending should be fixed, but this is a tad extreme. Be patient.

Always thought videogame developers were immune to things like that.

Me too. The hitch is that the advertising of the product has to be proven demonstrably false. So developer logs and pre-release interviews wouldn't cut it. I think a more lasting impact and impression on EA would be to boycott DA3 on principle and drop KOR accounts.

Aye. What would sting and leave a message is not giving them your money anymore. Assuming enough people do it, it would make a dent and may even cause some heavy finicial reprecussions.

I for one am not buying any ME3 DLC, and no this is not overreacting. I spend my free income on what I what when I want. Probably be highly skeptical about any BW game. I don't deny the quality of ME3 as a 'game' but if I just wanted a good game... there are a lot of titles out there for me to choose from.

Again, how? You know someone is trying to get people together to protest the game outside of BW headquarters? How is that less damaging than sending a complaint to the proper organization? People seem to be supporting the protest when that will just make people look bad. Remember those girls that protested Ryan Gosling not being sexiest man alive? They were called crazy.

OP, while I personally don't feel the need to complain to the FTC for the misleading advertising, I respect your choice to do so. I see many don't, and that has caused me much distress this afternoon.

I've posted this elsewhere:

I don't understand why his complaint is any less legitimate than mine, or yours. If he feels cheated, he has the right (and some would say in American the obligation to bring it to the attention of those tasked to monitor such things.

It is a huge jump from "Letter to FTC" to "Ban Bioware from selling in the US" with many options in between, ranging from dismissal of complaint as being without merit to letter of caution to fines.

To belittle or describe his solution is turning around and doing to this man what many have being doing to us. We are better than that.

Disagree with him, sure. Dismiss him? Don't you dare.

I've spent 7 days and quite a bit of my money to the kids for the "Retake" movement, and suddenly, I find myself ashamed.

Again, how is it "extreme" for him to complain to the FTC? It isn't a god damn lawsuit, or a protest in the streets, or a firebombing of the BioWare offices. It's just a letter. S**t people....

You are incredible. This is exactly what you described in your quoted post.

The game's been out for a week. Something will happen. Just wait for a minute.

To be fair, I think we can give them more time, if that's going to result in something positive. I just hope that when they finally release a statement, that they're going to take responsibility for their mistakes, not avoid them and change the subject.

Yeah, but at least something resulted with that. But complaints to the government? Isn't the FTC more busy protecting consumers against commercial fraud over making sure BioWare gives its fans a better ending in ME3?

And?  Pointing out that other people are also doing ridiculous things doesnt somehow make something non-ridiculous.

After a month the damage will have already been done. Hell, for me, it already has. The only people left throwing their money at BioWAre will be the blind fan-boys who would pay $120 for a bag of s**t with a sticker on the front saying "Mass Effect 4".
