This is probably one of the most annoying things about ME3 and ultimately contributes to the view that some of your choices mean nothing.

For those who don't know, Rana Thanoptis is an asari neurobiologist you find on Virmire in ME1 who worked under Matriarch Benezia and Saren. She was studying the effects of indoctrination and is basically the person who tells you about how it works, you can either kill her or let her go. If you choose the latter, she appears in ME2 working for Warlord Okeer and his experiments on creating the 'perfect' krogan. Again, you can kill her or let her go, leading to the possibility of her appearing in ME3.

Does she appear in ME3? No, she does not. She does, however, appear in an ANN news article where she apparently becomes indoctrinated and kills loads of scientists.

...

Seriously? This is what 5 years for her character has built up to? This is the end to her story arc? In this case, there's no damn point in sparing her in ME1 or 2 then if she ultimately amounts to nothing. Couldn't we have had an N7 mission where we investigate a lab and rescue her, then she repays her debt to Shepard by helping with the Crucible and (because of her knowledge) protecting against indoctrination?

Likewise with Kal'Reegar, he just dies off-screen with a little article in your message box telling you that. He was relatively significant for a minor character in ME2 but again, whether he lives or dies in that game is ultimately irrelevant. And where is Gianna Parasini? What happened to her? There's killing characters off-screen, there's relegating them to text on a screen (nee Shiala), and then there's just completely ignoring that they exist.

Maybe they just couldn't get the voice actors back, who knows?

It could be worse.. They could have killed them to make room for a character nobody wanted

A lot of us feel the say way. I've got another thread dedicated to all of them. Hopefully we'll see something of them in DLC

I agree partially, though I have to say I don't think all those kill/let live options should reward you for going paragon so I have no problem with Rana. Admittedly I killed her in ME1 and never looked back. That of course is the problem with such characters, with two chances to kill her, we're looking at a minor character that is probably dead. That doesn't mean she didn't deserve at least a minor bit of face time (if you gave her a job, then she killed a load of scientists at least you'd feel involved).

I agree about the others though. I especially think the Emily Wong thing was harsh. They did good by really minor characters like refund guy, so you'd think they could have worked people like Wong into it.
