I play both genders. 3 bros and 3 chicks. All 6 classes. Variety is the spice of life.

I play similarly. Though I'm only up to 5 characters now. 3 female, 2 male.

Soldier class is for those who prefer clicking the Lbutton instead of facerolling the number keys.

PS: I play as femshep since i dont want to listen to Microsoft Sam throughout the game.

Soldier class just feels like the default class in how Shepherd is originally portrayed. I mean it's the one class that seems built 100% around the cover mechanic.

That is why I think the soldier class is so popular.

Female engineer here. The article is right on when it says "If you're not playing as a FemShep engineer, you are missing out"

I'm a woman, and my first character was an Engineer.

I've yet to play a Soldier, haha.

I never got the logic behind playing a female if you're a man. Very weird to me. I would understand if Male Shep had a terrible voice actor, but he's the best VA not in the MGS series.

Adapt Sheploo, so I'm minority too.

Such a sad statistic. Most of my friends only play Soldier. Keep telling them to just try other classes, they never do. One of my friends doesn't even play Soldier properly, carries every weapon and never uses his powers. Just plays it pure shooter. Uhg.

Proud now. Femshep soldier, admittedly, but just as often adept, sentinel and engineer. My official ME trilogy playthrough is Femshep Adept.

Never played a Broshep through to the end of even a single game. I try, but I can't. Sorry Mark Meer, I'm sure you give it your best, but it's not for me.

Why should there be logic behind it? I always had a preference for strong female protagonists. Just a matter of feeling, you can't change that. They just seem more interesting.

It's not really rocket science or anything. It's experianing a vastly different story from a different perspetive. Seriously, it's like I wasn't even playing Mass Effect or something (in a good way) when I switch genders. But I suppose, from the male perspective, if you aren't into strong female protagonists in general, you wouldn't be interested in FemShep.

I've always played Mark Meer's Shepard -- either as soldier (boring, I know, but fun for me) or Sentinel (also fun). I have also played a bit as femshep, and Hale does a good job, but for me Meer's voice *is* Shepard at this point.

I played a soldier, because i wanted to play with
every weapon (not power) available. I want to shoot
with my sniper while sprinting to the enemy with my
asault refile and then gona finish it with my pump gun.
Thats the way i roll.

This.  I'd say that if there were a canon Shepard, he'd be a soldier.

That said, my Shep is a Vanguard.  Soldier-y, but more awesome.  I could never see Shep as a techie engineer lol.

Eh, I like FemShep far more then Sheploo or ManShep, don't have even one playthrough of ManShep, but the author of this article is just being a jackass. I also play Vanguard or Infiltrator in my two main Sheps.

I guess that's par for the course for Kotaku nowadays, but it just comes off as pretentious.

Interesting numbers though, I guess.

My main Shepard is a Paragon, Soldier Dudeshep. My character I'm using at the moment is a Femshep, Engineer, Paragon with a few attitude issues lol. I love playing as all the classes to be honest and have characters for most of them as both sexes.

Played a soldier in ME1, and in ME2 and 3 I usually played a Sentinel. My newest ME1 character is Sentinel as well.

Although, I do have a femshep, I play my male shep a lot more. Just got used to playing him.

Not surprising Sentinels are low Tech Armor slowing down power usage makes the game seem slower.
