I'm going to go ahead and add offline play to the ever growing list of lies being told by bioware. Like an idiot I went and spent $90 on the CE of mass effect 3. Now that my internet is out I can't play it. I'm not allowed access to the product I purchased! Draconian DRM is idiotic and counterproductive. The only people affected are those who actually pay for the game. If I wanted to, there are a plethora of sites with all of mass effect 3 ready to download and play sans DRM. Yet my game which is paid for, has been authorized before is locked off from me. Thank you bioware for one more reason to be pissed off about mass effect.
No DLC authorization no ME3?

I don't have this issue. I can play in offline mode and start the game without any problems. The authentication process only starts when you are connected to the internet.

I am in offline mode and it still attempts and fails to authorize from ashes.
