Well, I always found FemShep to sound boring and had this really weird and creepy whispery sound to her voice. And I feel that she overacts quite a bit.
Which is too bad, because I like Hale as a voice actress. I don't get why she sounds so bored in the mass effect games.
Lol. This is just completely false, regardless of your opinion. If you think Hale sounds bored... then just lol.
Wrong . She sounds boring. That better for you, buddy? I don't think you know what an opinion is.
Just because someone has an opinion doesn't mean its a good one.
Anyone who can seriously watch the defense of Tali at the trial, especially the renegade one, and say that Hale sounds bored is quite simply wrong. That, or they're deaf.

My femShep is a no nonsense no makeup woman. I agree with another poster that I cannot imagine Hale's presentation behind a face painted hussy. I could not take that seriously.
I could not relate to Meer's delivery. It wasn't bad. It just was one I couldn't relate to. It's a man's delivery. It takes me into a third person point of view completely.

What does that have to do with anything? Also, that's funny, I've met many soldiers and Marines of the female sex. NONE of them sounded like that. They sound like... wait for it... normal people. Their voices don't suddenly deepen upon graduating basic and they don't suddenly try to sound tough. Maybe the ones trying to prove something do, but they are the exception.MPSai wrote...

Am I the only one that prefers the Male Shep Voice Acting to Femshep?
No offense to Jennifer Hale, but to me the Femshep voice doesn't fit right. To me it sounds like it's trying to be TOO manly.
To me the Maleshep voice flows right for all 3 Mass Effects.
Thoughts?
Femshep seems like a forced butch female interpretation of a macho dude like Rambo or some crap. Mark Meer's performance doesn't come across as for the most part a normal guy thrown into extraordinary circumstances.
She's a military soldier, people. Not some willowly Bond girl.
Again, Mark Meer sounds normal. Jennifer Hale sounds like a female interpretation of a tough guy to me.

So Hale has been 100% the whole time, whereas Meer has improved to that level over the course of the trilogy. Still, they're both perfect now.

But it's all opinion so whatever.

For myself; I'm female, and I like Hale's Shepard.

I'll just comment on the Tali trial dialogue. After hearing both Hale and Meer say their lines (paragon or renegade) at the trial the difference for me is like night and day. I still get goosebumps after hearing Hale's line.

I'm sorry. This is the crazy FemShep fan I was takling about. One scene
in three 35+ hour games does not make up for three games of a horrible
sounding voice. I suggest you stop trying to fight an opinion.

Hale: Emotive badass
It really just boils down to personal preference. They're both great.

Is there any ladies out there who think Meer's VA is better?
Most of the responses against Hale seem to come from guys who don't expect women to be strong, or confident, but more akin to the women in the James Bond series.
Maybe my experience is different just because my mom is also career military, (who btw, loves FemShep), but it just seems to me that the guys come at the series with a pre-conceived notion of what a woman should do and/or sound like. And Hale throws them out of their comfort zone because an old-fashioned woman, she is not.
She's a career soldier, people, and possibly one with a very hard background. She's not gonna sound like a Hollywood model.

In ME1, FemShep was easily superior.
In ME2, each had times where they were better than the other, but FemShep probably just edged it.
In ME3, I feel MaleShep is now the better.
The reason why is expression animation: in ME1, there wasn't as much of it so FemShep's additional vocal emotion worked great. However, as of ME3, they've mastered expressions and because of that the additional emotion in FemShep's voice can now sometimes feel overkill when combined with the expressions.
I also feel Mark Meer has improved in the role considerably.

He made a generalization. Re-frickin-lax, people.
Speaking as someone who's an athletic, short-haired, military-type female; I think it's very fair to say that yes, a lot of guys have a problem with women who aren't "girly." I've been called every name in the book, I've had nutters harass me while I'm doing something as inoffensive as standing in line at Starbucks, had my sexual orientation questioned by strangers, you name it.
But saying "a lot" of guys is not the same as saying "most guys" or "you specifically."

And I prefer Meer.

F**k off!
So anyone who prefers Meer's VA is a sexist pig who expects women to clean the home and speak in quiet, whimsical tones?
I prefer Meer's VA simply because I associate more with Broshep being a man myself. That's it really. Both absolutely nail their parts in ME3 and both are f**king fantastic voice actors. I see no difference in the quality, so it comes down to personal preference.
But then again personal preference makes me prefer Meer, so I guess I " don't expect women to be strong, or confident, but more akin to the women in the James Bond series".

"I've had enough of your disingenuous accusations!". Seriously though i'm insulted by this accusation. I am a man, and my wife (soon to be ex unfortuanately) is in the military. The military does not all of a sudden deepen your voice your voice. My wife, and every other woman i've known in the military, acts and sounds like any normal person.
Like another poster said, you can have a badass voice without it sounding voice. Aria is a perfect example of a strong, intimidating female that isn't forced.
