It really just boils down to personal preference. They're both great.

I will certainly grant you that. If you prefer your heroes to be stoic, that's one thing.

But to say Hale is boring and Meer is not is simply not possible. Hale uses far more emotion in her lines than Meer. I could see someone not liking it because they thought Hale was trying to force something, but to say she sounds bored is just... silly.

For me, Hale's best BioWare performance is still Bastila.

Let me just put this out there. I know plenty of guys who think Hale's VA is better, (I'm one of them).

Is there any ladies out there who think Meer's VA is better?

Most of the responses against Hale seem to come from guys who don't expect women to be strong, or confident, but more akin to the women in the James Bond series.

Maybe my experience is different just because my mom is also career military, (who btw, loves FemShep), but it just seems to me that the guys come at the series with a pre-conceived notion of what a woman should do and/or sound like. And Hale throws them out of their comfort zone because an old-fashioned woman, she is not.

She's a career soldier, people, and possibly one with a very hard background. She's not gonna sound like a Hollywood model.

This is the problem.

I prefer Hale's voice acting. I just can't stand Meer for some reason.

Does anyone else think that they should have modelled default Broshep on Meer too? He's much better looking than the generic white guy we got!

"I've had enough of your disingenuous accusations!". Seriously though i'm insulted by this accusation. I am a man, and my wife (soon to be ex unfortuanately) is in the military. The military does not all of a sudden deepen your voice  your voice. My wife, and every other woman i've known in the military, acts and sounds like any normal person.

Like another poster said, you can have a badass voice without it sounding voice. Aria is a perfect example of a strong, intimidating female that isn't forced.

Carrie really nailed her performances, eh?

F**k off!

So anyone who prefers Meer's VA is a sexist pig who expects women to clean the home and speak in quiet, whimsical tones?

I prefer Meer's VA simply because I associate more with Broshep being a man myself. That's it really. Both absolutely nail their parts in ME3 and both are f**king fantastic voice actors. I see no difference in the quality, so it comes down to personal preference.

But then again personal preference makes me prefer Meer, so I guess I " don't expect women to be strong, or confident, but more akin to the women in the James Bond series".

I said, most of the responses against Hale- meaning saying her VA is bad.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

But in response to your comment, that is some of the problem people have with Hale. It's too forced and overdone. You do all this preaching about Hale being a soldier, but if you want to pull out generalizations like that, I might as well say that Hale's way of doing this character is godawful because soldiers should be more composed and stoic, the sort of performance that Meer puts out.

...silly.

Lets just say FemShep never gets past Eden Prime and with good reason her VA work feels so forced.

If anyone complains about their voice acting has their priorities messed up. They are both great and so are 90% of the other voice actors.

Again, this is entirely opinion.  Hale does NOT sound like she's forcing her voice down low to me - and I've always felt Aria was... well, she sounds like a woman trying to MAKE herself sound like she's tough and competent.  I always get the feeling that she's only skin deep; like she probably wakes up in the mornings and has to spend a few minutes chanting affirmations to herself.  She's certainly a badass, but she sounds (to me) like she doesn't quite believe it, and she's trying really hard to convince not just everyone else, but herself of it.

Aren't opinions fun?

Carrie did great, she knows how to portray a badass woman. Both gender's can be equally tough, but we're still different. We sound different, and we're tough in different ways. She nails it. She passes all intimidate checks with me XD.

I certainly agree with you that calling either of them "boring" is silly, except for perhaps ME 1 Meer... and that's still really pushing it. I love Hale's performance, and I think it fits Commander Shepard exceptionally well. It's one of my favorite things about this series. But Meer is also excellent in both ME 2 and 3, and at worst decent in 1.

See, your opinion I can see. It makes sense. I don't agree with it, but it makes sense.

The opinion that I don't see is someone saying Hale sounds bored.

It's the way you say that only your opinion is the right one that bothers people. Not the fact that you think Hale is better.

For me and many others it's Meer. So deal with it.

I think that some of femshep's lines are too extreme so they feel like artificial. But overall, I prefer femshep's VA.
Meer did a good job, especially in ME3. But still, I prefer my Shepard to show her/his emotion to extreme-end sometimes considering the whole situation Shepard is in (it's more realistic for human to show emotions when they are under such hugh pressure.) Maleshep voice is sometimes too flat/robotic to me.

Maybe it's just because i've known military women in person and know they sound no different than anyone else. Just like men in the military sound no different than men out of the military. Mark Meer doesn't try to force a badass tone, he's just a man in the miltiary. Hale fails in that regard, IMO of course.

The military makes you more disciplined. It doesn't deepen your voice and drop your balls another 5 inches (or add a set).
