Honestly, to me what really hit home how much I love Jennifer Hale was listening to the audio of that deleted scene with Shepard and Anderson at the end.
The Mark Meer one, which I heard first, is touching and beautiful and sad. But Jennifer Hale's delivery in the same scene just knocks it out of the park. I was sobbing while I listened to it.
Yeah, I listened the same cut audio scene not long ago. Meer's performance was great, but Hale's was out of this world. Her acting when Shepard was wounded and bleeding heavily was probably one of the best voice acting I've heard. That's actually one of the main reasons why I prefer Hale so much better over Meer: What Meer does great, Hale does better.
Meer is also a comedian, and voice-over work is his side-gig (not saying comedians can't do serious roles) but I just think that comedy is where Meer excels. It is great to see how much he has improved over the course of three games though.
I disagree, i think Meer delivers his lines mastefully. Better than hale, though i respect hale as a VA too. While i think there is some bias involved here, i think part of it is in how we relate to the performance, and what type of character we want our shepard to be. But i think both actors deliver it excellently, Meer most definitely imo.
In all honesty i don't think anything tops Meer's Renegade performance, though he does awesome at paragon too.
And I have a great deal of respect towards Meer also. As I stated before it is all down to personal preference. If someone finds Hale's performance boring, fine, I don't care. I just find it great to have a trilogy with a strong female protagonist and I always will associate Hale's voice with Shepard.
And for the record I don't understand the hate Meer receives from some people at all.

Nope, nothing wrong with sound and me.
It's again just matter of personal tastes, not about universal facts. You can try to shoe-horn it the way you want. Obviously you are beyond reason in this matter.
Way to completely twist my words. I said nothing of the sort. I said your sense of sound and mine are *different*.
Please read my posts before putting words in my mouth.

I'm not Commander Shepard, but this is my favorite post in the thread.

I think it is just that men are used to hearing high-pitched female voices in films/tv because studies show that they are perceived to be more attractive.
As far as the acting goes, I prefer Hale's. To me, Meer's Shepard sounds like a normal guy who went on to achieve great things, whereas Hale's Shep sounds like she was born to do great things. Both are awesome, but the latter resonates with me more.

Mark REALLY improved in Mass Effect 3. It was a massive transition from Mass Effect 2.
Gotta hand it to him, he is really talented. He also did the Vorcha.
You notice the easter egg in the drunk scene with Tali?
"Don't ah me. You sound like a vorcha." Since, ya know, Meer did the voices for the Vorcha.
Hah, didn't really think of it when it happened
But now that you mention it, I guess you're right.

They're different. Different for different types of people. From a woman's standpoint, I like Hale's presentation. She sounds like a woman who's in charge. She sounds like "the boss." She has to. Hale presents the female "business executive voice" that not all people are used to hearing. Her delivery put me in a first person point of view of the character giving excellent immersion.
I have female bosses. I have female executive bosses. I don't see her voice as female business executive voice. Also as a military brat and with other women that were in the military, I could still hear them, think "woman" and not "trying to be a man."
I couldn't either, but at the same time when I run my femsheps they are not made up and it just doesn't seem to work.My femShep is a no nonsense no makeup woman. I agree with another poster that I cannot imagine Hale's presentation behind a face painted hussy. I could not take that seriously.

Am I the only one that prefers the Male Shep Voice Acting to Femshep?
No offense to Jennifer Hale, but to me the Femshep voice doesn't fit right. To me it sounds like it's trying to be TOO manly.
To me the Maleshep voice flows right for all 3 Mass Effects.
Thoughts?
Prolly coz ur more used to male shep..
Femshep FTW!

Shepard is only female, to me - Broshep is someone else entirely, and nowhere near as good in the voice department. He's definitely gotten better as the series progressed, but he's still a far, far cry from being half as good.

She probably gets a lot more attention/interviews because of her fans though.

I think it's a combination of Meer's experience as an improv comedian, as well as the fact that Hale tries to sound too tough even when she's supposed to be funny, and when an angry person is trying to sound funny, it just doesn't work.

Mark Meer delivers the renegade and some of the more comedic lines a lot better though. (He's a comedian I think?)
Overall though, Jennifer Hale has a lot more experience in the whole VO department, and it shows.
