So many here suggested I use The Mantis and its been working really well. I thank you but I am wondering I I will need to upgrade for Gold. I have a level 3 Mantis,  The Raptor and level Incisor I believe its called?

If I was able to upgrade The Raptor to say 5 or somehow find a Widow would that be better then using The Mantis?

Background I am a Infiltraitor who cloaks, lets a Cryo Blast go and then head hunts.

For Gold, I'd really recommend an X lvl weapon. Meaning the Mantis X in this case. It has phenomenal stopping power and a fairly light weight for sniper rifles. Some people who use powers less swear by the Widow/Black Widow but I've never been fond of them myself. The Mantis is easier to upgrade and does superior damage at 10 vs a Widow 1.

Stay away from the Raptor unless you plan on using it like an assault rifle, and there are better choices there anyway. high weight to damage ratio and low damage per shot mean your cloaked headshots will be FAR less effective.

Thanks Sevrun I think we played togather last night right? You know what your doing and I really appreciate the advice. I guess I will stick with Mantis unless I somehow I am able to upgrade a Widow weapon. What is the best pack to upgrade The Mantis? The first one or The Veteran pack. Hopefully we will run into each other tonight!

Go with recruit packs for the mantis.
I prefer the Widow myself, rank IV now.

Recruit packs are your best bet to level up the Mantis. I just did it myself.

Recruit pack gives the best chance to quickly upgrade the Mantis alongside all the other basic weapons.

Which gives the added benefit of when they're all maxed you'll not have veteran/spectre packs containing them

The selling points of Widow/Black Widow/Javelin are their innate armor/cover piercing. If I can get my hands on the M-98 Widow I'll be using that over the Mantis, only because I suck at shooters and often clip the corner of a wall or the edge of cover when trying to hit something.

I used recruit packs to rank up my Katana, Avenger, Mantis and Predator all to X just to have a solid core of weapons to work with in Silver after my first match there just decimated me, it was embarrassing.
Now however, I can take a three man team into silver and expect to win because I know I have the weapons to support my team. Also put me in far better shape when I finally made the push into Gold.

May not see me tonight Ras, been fightin a migraine all day. Only here because I can't stand laying around any more.

Well, I can tell you for sure it's not the incisor. The incisor is certainly fun if you're running bronze with a Turian Soldier using marksman, but not at all 'best'

Like it's been said spam recruit packs and you'll easily max your Mantis. I once did 2 silver runs for 60k, decided to use it all on recruit packs. I maxed out all the starter weapons half way through. Mantis X is great for Silver, overkill for Bronze, still good for Gold but I prefer Widow III for Gold. That little extra damage goes a long way. Get the extra capacity+power spec and your weight will be in the positive which is all you need on an Infiltrator.

When you say power spec you mean damage right? I am starting to wonder if Armor Peircing would be the way to go. I kill most grunts out right and sometimes have trouble with the femals who move around a lot and have a shield? Not Banshee those are insane. Anyway, I often find myself lining up a head shot right at the second she moves away.

Get to a mantis X for your first few gold runs and then you can rotate to a widow at around rank five, especially with an AP mod. If you're running an infiltrator class you'll also wanna go for the salarian infiltrator in order to get stealth shield regen so you can snipe AND function as a very good medic

do NOT headshot a banshee unless it is doing a melee on a teammate for the instakill.  headshots on banshees stagger but do less damage than hitting them in the chest.  that's chest, not belly.  Not kidding, ****** shots are the weakspot on banshees

I use the Raptor currently with spare thermal clip and sniper rifle extendend barrel both at lvl v works a charm for me.
Btw what is the max mod lvl and do I get the same mod if it is at max level?

max mod lvl is 5, you will not get mods out of packs that are already maxed

No I mean the lv4 spec that gives +power and +weight capacity. This is only if you're using the Widow.

Incredibly heavy and ineffective on gold due to no damage spillover. Mantis X + armor piercing would be a better choice.

I tried Mantis VIII on silver. It's good but not great -- a Mantis X, especially with a high barrel mod and maybe AP mod should do ok. Gold you'll need to use something bigger. If you are single shot sniper, a Widow or Black Widow, I guess.

I have the Raptor, it's a good gun but I don't think that suitable for a sniper. It's more a DMR (Designated Marksman's Rifle), more a Soldier's tool.

An Incisor is not recommended even for Bronze. You need to level it up before considering it. It's hard to use, has enormous kick. The only plus point I've seen while using it is that it eats through armour faster than expected, which means it has some use against Reapers and Geth.

The Black Widow is the bomb, even on Gold. Vs. Cerberus on Gold, I had more points than the rest of my teammates combined (and I revived them plenty of times, and many of my kills were on targets my teammates weren't shooting at; particularly Atlas Mechs, some Engineers, and a fair number of Phantoms).

It's only Level 1, but you need to know how to use Tactical Cloak. The bonuses carry over for two or three seconds after the cloak goes down, so you can put on the +40% sniper rifle damage, then use Energy Drain or Sabotage, and if you get the shots out in the next few seconds they'll still pack all the punch the cloak would have given them.

I'm still a fan of the Mantis X on gold, although the black widow is now sitting at level III after a couple more packs. Looking mighty tempting, going to have to try it on silver later.

The widow by itself is really best for taking down mini-bosses like the banshee, it's still overkill for anything else, especially with the damage bonuses from tac cloak and no damage bleed through on gold. Great fun on silver though.

Agreed on the Widow being overkill but sometimes that's a good thing. On my Goliath runs, on smaller waves I can use it to rapidly put down Cannibals with body shots without turning on the Cloak (which would incur cooldown), while waiting for the bosses to show up.

Essentially, at whatever level you are at, if your SR can uncloak bodyshot grunts, cloak headshot mid-tiers, and take a good chuck off the bosses, it's the right SR. :)

If you're an Infiltrator using only the widow, Tactical Cloak should regenerate in just about the time it takes to reload :).

M13 Raptor, less intense scope makes switching targets easier in my opinion.
