Chris Priestly wrote...

I've said this before, and I'll say it again: I hope we do not reveal her face.

Why
not? Well, no matter what she looks like under there or how well a job
the team does with the reveal, it will never live up to what
I personally have in my own imagination. Don't get me wrong, I know if
they choose to reveal her face, they will put a lot of time and effort
into making it the moment fans have been waiting for. However, it just
won't live up to what I have in my mind's eye.

Take, say, the
Harry Potter films. I read the books before seeing the movies and even
though I think the cast did an awesome job in the roles they were cast
for, they weren't exactly what I had envisioned Dumbledore or house
elves looking like, or Snape or dragons sounding like, etc. What was
done was awesome work, but it was (for me) just a tiny bit wrong at the
same time.

Before Tali's face is revealed there is huge
speculation on what she looks like. Is she pretty or ugly, is she
humanoid or more alien, nose or no nose, eye and skin color, etc. All
the things fans have been guessing and speculating and fan arting for
years now. Once we reveal her THAT is what Tali looks like. No more
guessing or hoping or whatever. I know that if her face is revealed many
people will be happy, but I know there will be those who are upset
because we will have "got it wrong". We won't have gotten it wrong as we
are the creators and what we say goes (yeah, I know how that sounds,
but you get what I mean), but for those people we will have gotten it
wrong as we won't have lived up to their vision of what she looks like.

So
for me, I hope they don't reveal her face. I also get why people want
to see it, but I prefer to leave it up to my imagination to determine
her look. Still, I have no say in whether her face is shown or not.
Casey and the team will weigh all the pros and cons and make the right
choice and we'll all see whether they reveal it or not. Stay tuned. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]

I'm not exactly sure if alot of "Time and Effort" was spent into her reveal... But at least they gave us something.

She certainly didn't. I could have photoshopped that better...

I will probably get kicked off the forums for this but... I honestly agree with him on that. Except for the part about it being quality done. Though. I guess it doesn't matter where it comes from. They could have hand drawn that exact image and there would be unhappy folks. That moment has been so built up by so many people that it will always fall flat. The fact that we were treated to a royalty free image they probably (or actually did?) found on some random image search and then took five minutes to photoshop was just laziness.

Damn. This is kinda like the endings. They built it up so high, I expected their normal level of awesome and was treated to a huge turd in my face. Sigh.

I wasn't bothered by it. It's a bummer to know that it's photoshopped, but then again Bioware has used real people with Sheploo, Miranda, and Tallis in DA2. It's not impossible that what we got is what they wanted to give. I know some point to the concept art, but concept art is not always indicative. I've seen plenty of concept art for various game characters that was very different from what was on the screen, and those characters' faces were there from the start. By not revealing until the third game, they allowed themselves plenty of wiggle room.

At this point, it really isn't a matter of people not liking what she looks like, and more about the apparent lack of effort put into it.

I like the photo, glad they showed us what she looks like. It was getting annoying with the whole mask/mystery thing.

I much prefer just imagining what she looked like.

I don't, however, prefer having to imagine the ending...

Should have done it in game too.

She was a cheap photoshop.  At the very least they could of photoshopped the voice actress.  It seems to of been some random pic they got off the web.

If you're going to use a stockphoto and photoshop it for 2 minutes and call it a day why bother? It's just insulting.

Come on, you guys are saying you didn't like out quality bioware photoshop? The one that's been out done by fans? I mean you really can't expect bioware to put work into designing one of the most popular alien races. That photoshop was more than enough.

Shepard gets at least two chances to see it him/herself. ME2's romance scene, and her removal of the mask at the end of Ranoch. I didn't really need to see them photoshop a royalty free picture just to get it done. The mystery was part of the allure in the first place. Even Legion's mission on Ranoch toys with it (why are they masked still?)

I agree with him to an extent. Not everyone would be happy.

But i also think, If they actually rendered her at a appropriate time, Id call that time and effort.
Many more would be pleased to I think. Like when she unmaskes on Rannok ... PERFECT time to see her face. Even if briefly, and only that time.

This would have had a much larger impact on things I think. Dont you?
As opposed to a PS stock photo.

But as it is, I can duplicate talis face with the same stock Photo in GIMP in a about 10 minutes.... maybe 15.
And Im admittedly not that good at it... :(

@Slidell505

I seent hat earlier, and to me ... thats quite close to how I have always pictured Tali.  Not exactly .. but darn close.

Lots of speculation.

Wait a minute. Does this mean when we get the real ending it will be a stock ending that's been lazily photoshopped? :o

If they would have actually used some kind of imagination when creating her nobody would have said a thing I firmly believe, and taken it as canon. Atleast I would have. But since its a quick photoshop from random model picture, and did quite bad job at that... Someone got paid for this and I have seen dozens of fanarts that have used more imagination, good looking but still alien and they did it all on their freetime...

Something is off if you ask me.

I have no problem with Tali's face reveal, or the fact they photoshopped a stock photo. Take note, I believe this would be an example of polarization :/

I don't care where she came from, she looks alright to me. Not what I imagined and not what I consider canon but a nice picture never-the-less.
As I said on another thread, she coudl have ended up a purple space-goblin-gypsy thing.

They should have just not even bothered. People would be arguing and complaining about it no matter how it turned out.

Now people are mocking the fact that it's photo shopped, but even if that weren't the case, people would still be saying, "Well, she should have looked like ___________."
