Yeah I personally think the weight system has a lot to do with it. Any class can have such short cooldowns if you go light on the weapon loadout, its pretty ridiculous. With some planning, you can play any class with just one weapon anyway, so why not spam powers while you're at it?

It probably helps too that Liara in this game just seems far and away the most destructive squadmate in the series. Then you have most people starting with an imported level 30 so, its probably a combination of a few factors.

Carry heavy weapons if you want to make the game harder. ME2 wasn't that challenging either but it was fun to experiment with different builds.

The difficulty on previous ME titles were all artificial. The AI was stupid, the controls were bad and the increased difficulty in scenario's came from stupidly high lvls of defense stacking making powers worthless most of the time.

ME3 is easier because the mechanics function better.combos are better, shepard is agile, melee is more powerful squadmates help more.

on the flipside difficulty is provided by smarter enemies that buff each other toss nades, and smokes as well as flank and cover. They arent as hard to take down but more embaressing when you slip up and die.

Thats how it should be i game shouldnt be hard because enemies have 1 billion HP, shields, and armor, with insta gank weapons.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts as well.

Try it on normal difficulty. Enemies pretty much lie down dead just by looking at them.

Insanity in ME3 is probably easier due to the following facts.

1. You are playing a refined ME2...ME2 was different in playstyle from ME1 so you needed to "learn" how to play it...Contrast this with ME and you're playing ME2 in feel.

2. Import helps a lot. The game was definitely scaled for level 1, no upgrades character. Contrast a NG+ level 30 with full upgrades including weapons versus a level 1 no-import character.

It is surprisingly easy to play, although having said that it is also surprisingly easy to die before you know it by a random grenade or something.

I've actually stuck squad power usage on auto, to restrict my own control to Shepard's powers - still not much challenge.

Might consider loading up some unnecessary weapon weight to slow the cooldown further.

I found it a cakewalk with a soldier. MP on silver/gold is much, much harder.

I thought Insanity was easy too, then realized I imported a level 30 character, played the crap out of ME2 and the demo and the MP demo so I was already familiar with the gameplay mechanics. Also Vanguard didn`t change at all class wise(except Nova, and shockwave actually became useful). Was still fun :)

Correct me if i'm wrong, didn't Insanity in ME2 add a layer of Armor on top of health for normal troops also? I only played the beginning of ME2 on Insanity (was too hard for me at the time) and the mechs had armor instead of just health. It kind of makes sense also especially if they had it in ME3. I mean, all the armor cerberus troops wear that provide basically no protection haha. Its even hilarious in cutscenes where they die from one shot. So much for advanced tech

I like the new Insanity. Instead of giving every enemy a layer of armor/shields to protect them they just made their health bar longer and made yours shorter, basically speaking. I am just glad that Throw actually has a use on Insanity! Now my class options have expanded from "Soldier" to include every class!

It is really easy. Wraith+Infiltrator+ED or DM is nigh impossible to kill. Sabotage+Incinerate cloaked combo is stupid powerful damage as well. All the classes can wreck Insanity quite easily though. I just let my squad cast their own powers now, but it doesn't really make it that much more challenging.

I did it on insanity with an engineer, they start off weak but you get an amazing amount of control by the end. You have oveload for barriers, can freeze with cryoblast, you have 2 droids to haraas and distract the enemy, can sabotage and take over turrets, I picked up reave as well. You basically don't even use your weapon, you want as light as possible to keep the 200% recharge bonus so I took one of the lighter assault rifles.

Best squadmates for me was vega, incendary ammo is my favourite so I put it on the group. I took liara as well until I could get ashley, by then I had enough control abilites. 2 soldiers with assault rifles add alot of support damage and group bonuses

Still waiting for OP to get his Insanity/Unwavering Achievement, even then I wont be impressed since he most likely did NG+

In ME2, all enemies which just had health bars were granted either shield or armor on Hardcore/Insanity
Normal Robots had armor
Geth/Humanoids were given shields
Biotic/Collector Enemies were given barriers

I haven't played on insanity, but I did notice that the game seemed to be a lot easier than ME2 (playing both on hardcore). It being my first play-through, I was blundering around without even knowing what the powers did and yet...I was not dying. Perhaps some of the difference is that I'm used to playing ME2 and that I've played MP a fair amount, but I also think the cooldowns are so short (unless you overload with weapons) and you start with so many powers available that you almost always have a way out of a dangerous situation no matter how careless you are.

Note: I have run into a few tough spots, I'm just speaking about the difficulty in general.

PC's UI and control make the combat very easy to handle in single player. MP's gold difficulty is kinda hard though, especially when 5 banshees come out together.

Well it is a RPG so leveling a char must help. It's not like ninja gaiden or some other action game, if you care about leveling your char and get nice upgrades it pays out in the game.

Yeah, I do wish there was a level above insanity.

There actually is. You'd be disappointed, though. Nobody has any shields on this difficulty, you, your henchmen, or the enemies - and you're invincible and every bad guy dies in one hit.

Yes, it's a debugging difficulty that you need to modify your save to unlock, why do you ask?

Ok, so I have played ME1 and ME2 on insanity, now I am trying ME3. I have 5 missions left to do, but on my hardcore run I had trouble with the evacuation shuttle in London. after taking down the banshee you have to take out endless respawning reapers until you get saved by a shuttle yo have to run to. On hardcore I always died on that part, because they were spawning just before the shuttle (cheap bioware!) Is there a nice strategy for that part on insanity? I tried Liara with crowd control (singularity and stasis bubble and dominate for overall confusion but there are just too many and they always shoot me in the back running towards the shuttle.

Thanks for any tips!

What is your class?

Generally, I prefer squadmates that can set up or detonate Tech or Biotic explosions depending on my class, unless I am a Soldier and then I prefer squadmates with crowd-control abilities.

I like to stay back with a clear view of the landing area (where the Banshee and shuttle arrive) to kill enemies with combos until the shuttle arrives. Once the shuttle arrives, I like to disable as many enemies as possible using biotics (Lift and Singularity are good) or tech/ammo (anything Cryo is good), then running for the shuttle.

Here are some of my gameplay videos to give you an idea of how I did it:
Infiltrator with Claymore.
Claymore Soldier.
Shotgun-Sniper Vanguard.
Engineer.
Puppet Master Engineer (Engineer with Dominate).

I know capn233 has some videos of this mission on his YouTube Channel as well:
Assault Rifle Vanguard.
Infiltrator. (Cannot remember what guns he used offhand)
Cryo Soldier.
No Charge NovaGuard.

Nice vids. I'll record some of the tougher/more interesting fights with my Assault Rifle Adept. I think I'll just be biotic-combo-roflstomping my way through it.

With my Revenant Soldier (I wish I'd been into recording during my 1st playthrough), I just run-and-gunned the whole way. Grenades and Cryo-ammo for CC and Cannibal slaughter, then popped AR and ran for it. Liara's stasis and singularity, and Garrus's overload also helped a fair bit.

Edit: Ahh it was pretty much like capn's Cryo Soldier, except with more Revenant dakka and less headshots.

Insanity is a little bit too easy considering it's the hardest difficuty.
I have to agree there.

Definitely too easy after play MP gold and platinum. Insanity feels like silver. I would love a nightmare mode for SP.

Do you find insanity too easy?
Are you a PC player?

Why not try out Kronner's Spectre Difficulty Mod?

  • More powerful enemies that take more damage and deal more damage.
  • Improved balancing of powers and weapons.
  • Slower cooldowns and greater weapon weight encumberance.
  • Kronner also listens to feedback. So if you feel the difficulty needs tweaking, contact him via private message.

Thank you! I just finished it (with a sentinel) on insanity. With the help of your tips.

btw lol @abraham. Yeah. For me it has something to do with MP. Playing those gold matches makes insanity in SP a walk in the park. For the most part.
