Returned my PS3 copy of Mass Effect 3 today.
The Best Buy employee asked if I was returning the game because I was finished with it, or if I was doing it in protest. When I told him that the reason I was finished with it and the reason I was protesting it were one in the same, he just said 'Hold the line' before refunding my money.

Hold the line.

I tried to think of how to express the singular impact of a moment like this but it speaks for itself.

/salute

I personally wonder what the real effect of this is. Would this not hurt the smaller shops more then the big publisher behind the game title?

In the UK our 2 biggest retailers Game and Gamestation didnt sell ME3 in the first place due to a fall out with EA.... At the time I thought laughed and thought they must be losing a lot of money but maybe they saw the ending :P

I am being civil, but conspiracy theories regarding a simple event are just getting laughable. This was btw not a troll attempt in anyway, but thanks for thinking that.

Let us believe what we want to believe. This doesn't have to concern you at all.

Why is it that people keep coming here telling us "I'm happy with what I got and you all need to stop because I said so?"

We respect other opinions as long as they respect ours. Keep it civil people.

You clearly don't respect mine. I respected yourse and still do, but becoming ass to me and telling me I am a troll, when Im clearly not, told me a lot about you.

Clearly not?  Troll isn't exactly the insult you're making it out to be.  You're coming into a thread that you know is full of people who have an opinion different than your own, and call them conspiracy theorists whose ideas are "laughable".

You're obviously trying to get a rise out of people, for whatever reason.  Myself, and others, would love to hear strong arguments for OR against the ideas and thoughts presented here in the thread.

If you want to highlight just how silly it is for anyone to consider the Goliath thing a PR tactic, why don't you present a list of AAA title who had multiplayer events in the first two weeks of release, and note that they didn't have any controversy to force PR to hold that event.

That'd be a strong, constructive argument against the ideas you're attacking.  It's a lot easier to sit there and call names though.

From California Literary Reviev:

"To quote Roger Ebert for a moment: If you have to ask what it symbolizes, it didn’t.”

and

"Casey Hudson, the Director of the Mass Effect series, said in a recent interview that he wanted the endings to be “memorable.” I, for one, think he succeeded and I hope we all remember this game well.
Those who forget the history of bad ideas are doomed to repeat them."

I echo Boceephus' sentiments above. The community/movement should not expect a resounding 'victory', if one is even coming, at PAX. Setbacks to our desired goals, stalling actions from PR damage control, and outright silence should be expected not out of a malicious disregard but because the tactics in play are tried and tested.

The people at the PR offices stake their careers and livelihoods on navigating this situation in a manner acceptable to the people who sign their paychecks. I, for one, wouldn't want to hire a PR department that didn't deliver in times like this: While I am not ascribing to establishing a siege mentality, or us-against-them no-prisoners, we should look to the future remembering a line from the movie, The Siege:

"In this game, the most committed wins."

"The Most Committed Wins"

That is the perfect way to sum up my feelings. I don't mean to come off as a fatalist, rather I'm trying to keep people expectations realistic for a long drag out survival oriented fight. The people at PAX will have to be loud, organized, civil and above all else seen and heard, that will be our victory at PAX. Something as simple as matching shirts, giving out buttons, etc will let people outside the movement know that something real is happening here.

We can not win battles where Bioware's PR team controls the field. PAX will come and go as nothing more then a commercial for future DLC. MP weekend WILL be described as a rousing success no matter the actual numbers. But these are far from defeats, they're too be expected, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't continue to hold the line.

Concessions will be made quietly, here on the forums and with little fanfare. Abstaining from MP helps even though it wont be acknowledged. Have a little hope and trust in The Line.

Well said.

Hold the line for as long as it takes people.

I'm calling you a troll because you have made offensive comments towards us, and it annoys me. So ya, you are being offensive, and I will respond in kind until you act more civiliy.

Is there anyone here who would be able to create a Retake Mass Effect site? Just something outlining our position (I think there's 2 threads on that atm) and a place where we could put up all the links to new articles for someone to read at any time and not have to worry about someone having a link handy.

I think this is a good idea. I'm sure there are plenty of people on here capable of it.

I'm trying to do the best I can. So far I have stopped five people from buying it. I think Remedy should pay me for getting them all to play the "Alan Wake" games The other two who did buy the game at midnight like myself have gone dark on their Xbox Live accounts. I also got them to sign on with the RetakeME3 on twitter and Facebook.
I will probably join up with the letter writing campaigns as well.
atghunter and the countless others are right though. This is going to take time so be patient and civil, keep your energy up too.

Bioware doesn't care. They are just going to say like

"Yeah ME3 sales were great. A few complaints, but those are minor. Now please buy our RETAKE OMEGA DLC"

Bravo. One of the most thought provoking threads I've read yet. It gives me hope that with perseverance we might see some sort of solution that will see both sides reasonably happy. I for one would even be willing to shell out a nominal amount of cash to BioWare if it meant they would fix the ending to bring it into line with the rest of the experience. I seriously hope they don't ignore us and our passionate please to right what seems to be a faulty product.

Nice to see the line was being held while I was eating!

Regardless of what happens, BioWare having a place at PAX is a big thing we should be taking advantage of. We need to be present there, but also be civil and clearly demonstrate our intent.

I wonder is anyone here planning on going to PAX? I'm not American so won't be able to.

My opinion, this is my opinion,....I think they took one of the endings they prepared it......and edit it.....into have 3 different color endings.
I guess they choose the "horrible consequence" ending to be the endings...and got rid of the rest endings....
And all of that because of the leaks that happened.
But sadly, by doing such a poor stupid rush decision, they didn't noticed that they'll be killing the franchise.....and most importantly if they don't listen to their consumers.

Hey guys, great to see this kind of thread.I have some PR/Business questions regarding ME3 that I really cant come up with an answer to, so i hope some of you guys can provide some insight.

What does EA/Bioware stand to gain? If the outcry does die out and everything settles down, they will have lost alot of long time customers and damaged their own franchise name in the eyes of many.

From what little i know of business, ive always been told that franchise damage is one of the worst things that can happen to a company. Its extremely difficult to regain the lost confidence once its lost. Bioware is multi-million dollar name, so why would they even risk damageing themselves over the mere pennies a dlc would cost? It makes no sense to me. Seems like something that could easily have been fixed has been allowed to grow out of control into something far more serious.

On top of that, there was a guy on BSN posting sales and talking about how word of mouth is a huge factor in sales. Seems odd to bite the hand that feeds you aka the fans.

So from a pure money perspective the way bioware/EA has responded seems odd and maybe even a little naive. Maybe its a matter of hurt ego´s that has dragged this out

English isnt my native language, but i hope you can follow my reasoning.

Please support and discuss our mission statement:

We hold grievances with the current ending and EA/BioWare because:

  • The game's ending fails to meet what we were promised as consumers.
  • The game's ending fails to meet our expectations as fans.
  • The response from BioWare needs to change.
  • We have jobs, families, responsibilities. We dedicate our time to this cause because we genuinely care about Mass Effect and its story.
  • We want to see a product that we, as human beings, as consumers, as fans, and as players can be proud of.
  • We wish to see a conclusion to the game that does the rest of the series justice - in terms of concluding the story and providing the players with both choices and consequences to prior choices.
Retake Mass Effect 3 - Hold the line.

The thread to to do is here:

I can´t get myself to play the story mode anymore. Yeah the journey really was great and all it had its flaws sure but I think I´ve never felt this empty before and because of a video game for that matter. Sure I have spent countless hours playing multiplayer and it is nice and all, but the more I think of it it´s because I liked the game hell I loved it until the ending and I did shell out 90 euros for the N7 edition of the game so I really want to get my moneys worth.

I did a review for ME 3 half a week ago and gave it 90/100 losing a couple of points on the small annoyances I had with the game(including the unmasking of Tali) and the rest for the ending. But now the ending just eats at me more and more and I can´t find joy in the journey anymore and it actually started to degrade my opinion of even the earlier games. I have to say that I played the first Mass Effect more than I even like to admit. I had 6 different Shepards and all of them went through the story more than once. The same with the second game.

I started my Mass Effect 3 experience with the Shepard that I modeled after me. Sure he isn´t as chubby as I was when I started playing but still he was me as much as he possibly could be. I laughed and cried during the game and when the end came I just stood there looking at my options without really wanting to do anything. I watched the ending video and was just baffled with what I had just witnessed and I still don´t comprehend it. That night when I was laying in my bed unable to sleep I came up with a theory that was actually really close to the (in)famous Indoctrination theory. I know deep inside that believing it is just stupid and will just leave me empty if it doesn´t hold true but my brain no my whole being just doesn´t want to believe that the ending really is the ending.

I don´t know if anyone else has taken this as bad as me as it left me zombified, but if it has I hope that the men and women of Bioware don´t take it too hard because if they do care about us(which I do believe they do. As I´m speaking of the individual not the corporate machine) it must be hard to see that something you´ve created do something like this to people.

This was actually going to be just a few sentences long but it seems that instead of emptyness inside I just have this need to get my story out there. To see that I´m not the only one, I just want my life back to be perfectly honest. Lucky for me I haven´t had any school or work for two weeks because the only thing I have been able to do for the past week has been just trying to make sense of it all.

So please Bioware give me the closure I need even if it isn´t ingame I just have to know.

Hold the line
Sincerely
Jens Olsen
