You're all just posting on a forum. How could this possibly be having any effect on EA? What are you people doing outside of the forum?

It probably feels good to say you're part of some sort of "movement" but so what?

People here have been sharing stories about their reaction and responses, discussing and developing consensus, giving polite advice to others on how they can react (among a host of other things).  In short, people come here to communicate and let others know there are other disenfranchised customers out there.  All in all, it's mostly an impressive group of civil, men and women simply standing up in the marketplace and expressing displeasure towards a company's product.

And if you really do care to know what people are doing, read through this thread, go look at the Child's Play page, or check in with the Retake FB page and you'll see much more than people posting here.

To me, what feels "good" is having spoken up, watching countless thousands from all over the world use their voice (no matter what side they take) to speak their minds, reading the stories of how people have reacted and what they've done.  I feel even better when I see people adopt civil activism and hope over hopeless apathy and myopic defeatism.

Is it going to have an effect on EA?  Certainly too soon to tell.  But to steal a line from a recent movie:

If you stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything.

That quote...

"If you stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything."

I am going to use  that one... a... lot... ;)

I can assure you the Star Wars The old Republic weekend was planned. It was announced before mass effect 3 even got released. Subscribers like myself recieved an email about it :)

I'm a subscriber and my SW weekend e-mail was dated 3/14/12. :)  Pre-planned firewall, pre-planned promotion or deployed response damage control, take your pick.

I really need to get used to american dates :P I keep thinking what the eff is the 14th month. Anyway, mines dates 6/3/12 (or 3/6/12 for the USA )

What the? Are you in a parallel universe?  ;)

No matter how long I think about it I just can't wrap my head around how they sent ME3 out the door thinking that the ending to the game is production worthy. All of this could have been avoided if they had spent more time developing the ending. I wonder how adversely the ending really is affecting their return on investment? I guess there is a silver lining though; Child's play donations are at about $64K right now.

EA's march fiscal. Thats why. Out of time.

Deadlines. =(

Then we will agree to respectfully disagree. I'm keeping wary for any PR tricks from Bioware, and while I hope they are sincerely reaching out to us, I'm not budging until we get a confirmation on the ending DLC.

Indeed we will :) Btw I am hoping for a fix to certain issues just as much as you all do.

also the reason I know Swtor and ME3 have nothing to do with eachother is because of this :P

I have had direct contact with them several times haha :)

Not a derailment from the cause, but listen again to the cut Anderson dialogue. Does anybody feel like it plays the whole thing over, but it feels like some lines contradict each other! As if there was a dialogue wheel there. I noticed it most about the family lines.

My main problem is with ME3's ending; not Star Wars: ToR. EA could very well just be promoting that to avoid the issue.

I was ready to wash my hands of this whole thing but talking with a few folks here and reading through this fascinating thread, I've come around.

I want to be part of this movement and add a small voice. Not just for this game but to make a point to the gaming industry at large about their business practices.

Please continue this analysis - it really has a galvanizing effect.

I hope I'm not the only one archiving these posts in case censorship becomes a factor to contend with.

Welcome :)

And while I'm glad you're archiving (this sure will be a story future gaming communities can learn from), In this day and age, cencorship is a two edged sword.

Damn, that's golden.

Part of me want's to post this all over, well, pretty much any forum out there.

There's a move in /r/masseffect to get #RetakeMassEffect or #RetakeME3 trending on twitter by 3 PM (PDT) tomorrow afternoon.

I posted earlier, but thought I might bump the message. Here's the blurb we're using:

@masseffect ME3 was outstanding, but the ending is unacceptable. When will new content be made available to address this? #RetakeMassEffect

or @masseffect ME3 was outstanding, but the ending is unacceptable. When will new content be made available to address this? #RetakeME3

Really, the folks at twitter aren't going to give us any other answer than the standard reply they've been giving us, but it would be good to get the exposure that trending brings. REMEMBER TO BE POLITE, RESPECTFUL, and COOPERATIVE. We aren't BioWare's enemies, quite the opposite. We just want the ending that the franchise and we deserve!

Thank you for sharing that.  I'm spending so much time in my inbox and trying to keep up, I feel like I'm occassionally falling behind (which should be understandable as I am old). :)

Remember everyone, they are not our enemy. This is an attempt at consumer-producer discourse, an attempt to be noticed. Keep it civil, keep it on track. If you want them to hear your voice, all you need to do is speak up. They are watching.

I have to admit that I'm a little worried about this getting out of hand. I've been a Bioware fan for a long time, I bought most of their games and my faith and love for this company was the reason I became a game design major. I have to say that like everyone here I felt betrayed with the ending, and my view of Bioware had already been tarnished with the released of DA2 and DA:O DLC. But now I'm more worried for the actual employees, writers and artist that worked on ME3. I cannot help but feel bad for them. They worked hard on this series and they love it as much as we do or even more since this is their vision and creation. I know I feel bad after a day of bad critiques I cannot even begin to imagine a week of thousands of people criticizing my work. IDK just wanted to give my view on the matter. Lets just hope this gets resolved in a timely manner and that in the long run we don't hurt the company we love.

And might ultimately hurt them more than that damned deadline rationale.

As cheesy as it sounds, we might be writing gaming history here.

You have to wonder if they are going to change their DLC release schedule over this.

I think if they released something like weapon packs or alternate appearance packs in the near future it would be seen as insulting to a lot of the fans who are a part of the movement.

When you have fans demanding ending DLC and come out with what many would consider to be the worst, most money-wasting type of DLC out there there could be serious backlash that further strengthens the whole movement.

For starters, it would make it extremely easy for people who say they will boycott DLC to actually do so. You aren't really missing much if you don't buy it, but it gives you a real option to speak with your wallet. If this was high quality single player DLC like LOTSB even the most die hard Take Back supporters probably wouldn't be able to resist buying it.

They almost have to come out and say "yes, we are going to take care of the ending for you guys" if they want the weapon packs, alternate appearance packs, etc. to sell well...and they probably do since these are by far the most profitable DLC to make. Very little development man hours is involoved compared to a full single player mission DLC. Not to mention no voice actors to pay, no new music, way less man hours in QA needed, etc.

It will be interesting to see when the first DLC drops. How many stick to their guns?

Great news!  I don't have highspeed so I can't play online but how much does TOR cost a month?  If more and more people do this Bioware will be losing a lot of money not just from Mass Effect three but on a month by month basis for the whole company.  We can win if we stick together and don't cave and don't fall for the spin.

You do realize that with this you are screwing over a bunch of people who had nothing to do with ME, right? Even a bunch of players who will now be stranded on a desolate server with no way to transfer their chars to a more heavily populated one. Great news indeed.. :(

But, as far as I know, we haven't kidnapped anyone.  All people leaving ToR are doing it of their free will.  We're not bringing down servers, or hacking accounts.

Yes, but cheering on as someone entirely innocent gets screwed and actively encouraging it is still pretty low.

Hey guys, just spent an enlightening hour catching up on some of the posts here and I'd like to say thank you to everyone for contributing so much information and perspective onto this situation. I am in awe of how the entire Mass Effect community has been able to come together and how, through sheer determination and willpower, we've been able to proliferate our message across the entire web.

While I don't know if we will ever be able to reach an absolute consensus about what we really want from the ending, I believe that if we continue to support the RetakeME3 movement and the Child's Play charity our voices will be heard.

If they feel that way, they're not paying attention. Everyone here loved 99% of the game, save the ending. The ending that unfortunately makes the rest of their play time feel irrelevant. They should be proud to have such vocal and passionate fans. Especially since the forums are still alight with jokes and phrases from the games themselves. ;)
