I agree that the 24 hour news cycle has changed a lot of how quickly protesters can organize around an issue that catches fire and spreads wildly. Companies can't ignore their customers anymore, because through the internet and social networks they can mobilize and make their voices heard.

And anyone who bothers to do their research on why people dislike the ending(s?!) to ME3 can read numerous articles that point out very clear, well thought-out arguments on why the ending(s) are so unsatisfactory to so many people.

I maintain my opinion that, even if some fans enjoyed the ending, there is a significant portion (and likely majority) of fans who do not. There's money to be made in correcting this issue, absolutely. Who's going to buy ME3 DLC that doesn't involve an expanded ending? Who's going to buy future Bioware stories if there's an underlying suspicion that the power of choice or the potential for a happy ending are dead? How Bioware handles ME3 in the coming months not only impacts the sales for this game but that of future products as well. A disenchanted fanbase is not something any company can afford to ignore.

I'm pleasantly surprised how nice it has to have a PR guy on this side of the fence for once. It's refreshing for us as well as educational. It's wonderful to know what is REALLY going on and more importantly WHY.

With the post late on a Friday, some people who will remember (I'm old, and it's St Patricks Day, I'll be lucky if I remember my name) should get some links ready to forward to appropriate parties Monday morning so they don't get lost and buried as I imagine is hoped.

As far as the "Tell us what you want in the ending" bit, I can't help but think this is more PR...
(because I've been a massive conspiracy theorist since this whole thing started)

On the surface it looks like "help us help you"

But the more I look at it, the more I think they want us to start putting out ideas and then start arguing over them amongst ourselves.

Deflect the non-quality ending topic by making us infight on what it should have been (because this is the internet, that's what happens here)

Then as that arguement gains steam, the original rage can just fade away

TREAD LIGHTLY MY FRIENDS

DAMN YOU, KROGAN!

Should we just keep bumping this thread so it stays at the top? Not only is it a good read for fans who hate the ending, but it's just good information overall.

Well said. I think something that needs to be reinforced is; time. It will take time for bio to fix issues over consoles and pc respectively. It will take more time to fix and balance the multiplayer. I think this weekend is a good start, bio can collect alot of data and begin fixing mp after goliath weekend. But as far as "fixing" endings.. This will take the most time and has to be much further road when you take into consideration the plethora of other things that need fixing.

We will most likely see other large Dlc and titles first. Skryim's "expansion" Dlc and Bioshock infinite come to mind for me. I honestly hope there is still a demand for ME3 Dlc after the on-disk and ending controversies. There is alot of stream built up on these forums and I think it reprints demand.. But how long until people move on?

My friends, myself included, like the multiplayer alot. It was a good addition, but how many waves can you go through until it gets repetitive? Goliath weekend is a good move, dont't get me wrong. However, if the move is as you infered, to let out some steam, I don't know if this will really bring closure to anyone. I already see people going back to CoD. After this weekend, I see alot more moving on to other games and losing interest in the franchise.

You know this is actually wearing away a little at my tried and true cynicism. I've never seen firsthand how social media can make waves like this.

You haven't seen it much because it is a fairly new aspect of the PR corporate paradigm.  Imagine chess with all it's known gambits, and suddenly someone introduces a new piece.  May make for a terrible ending of a mass effect game, but makes for a fascinating possible bellweather change in the consumer/producer marketplace.

No joke, I'm so happy that we also have people who have worked in the industry before helping us out with all the doublespeak. Thank you for keeping our hopes alive by showing us what's actually going on. :)

I managed to convince someone not to play MP tonight.

Hold the line and call your friends, get them to play something else. League of Legends is free!

they absolutely want us to infight--that is correct. That is why they were using the Lovers vs the haters the past week. Now they will want the haters to argue over minutia.

Soooo, should I start sharpening my pitchfork now or should I wait for a little bit?

Pitchforks probably aren't necessary atm.  Though ultimately pool noodles at twenty paces might be a good way to settle this.

Stay strong, stay civil, stay passionate (no matter what side you take), and keep a good sense of humor at hand.

Today, I personally became a fan of the Marauder Shilds guy.

Honor his sacrifice.

Hudson's statement is rather disgusting. The man completely and utterly lied to us over and over leading up to launch. Promising grandiose, complex endings where our decisions over the course of 5 years would culminate into one of numerous finales. Couldn't have delivered something more contrary if he tried.

People please don't lose interest. Even if everything that happened tonight was PR spin it still proves we have been heard. Stick together and we will win.

Hold the line as long as it takes people.

So we know one of their tactics is to trying to bump the forbes articles and others that dis the ending off of google....so a good counter offensive here would be to go search google and and click on those very articles! To google!

That would be the standard PR counter.  Conversely, you can go to the articles Mr. Hudson listed and leave a respectful and civil counter argument in the comments.  This later move is a double-edged sword though as it will bump the story (which may get bumped anyway if the initial PR move works) thus putting it on the front page.

Thanks op and old pr guy great stuff.

I would like to add to anyone going oh it's just a game don't get so worked up; is that humanitys course is, to a significant extent, determined by imagination if we can't imagine a better world we cannot create one and if we allow bad fiction to feed our imaginations then we are doing ourselves a disservice by allowing our minds to be polluted.

To: atghunter Considering the people who will simply not buy from Bioware anymore, and the large number of people who certainly won't preorder any games from Bioware anymore. Who do you think has the greater advantage as far as time is concerned (us/Bioware). People might not hold the line anymore, but they're also probably not going to care about Bioware as well.
