Only up to a point, my fellow dutchman.

After all, we mustn't ignore the kind of reach IGN has.

On the other hand, as been said, IGN's own fanbase is leaning towards the RetakeME3 position. If they keep this up, it is their own choice, and right to do so, but it isn't unlikely that it will have an effect on their own userbase.

I can get behind this. Kotaku isn't doing much better... and after the way Ben Kuchera was incredibly snarky on the PAR, I'm not going to be reading his work any more.

Here is a thread that focuses on how the ending would play out under the "Indoctrination Theory" since that is the most popular in the polls right now.

Please post your ideas and criticism there so I have enough info to make an additional poll (Q16)!

I know I was grasping at straws, but couldn't help it it made me laugh out loud. But I still think something physical is a good idea. The producers of Jericho said in the second season dvd that the bags of nuts made a diference.

Doing something is better than nothing.

The consumer-gaming news sites-consumer relationship has really been interesting with Mass Effect 3. I think a lot of us, or at least myself, have really been exposed to just how much bias takes part of the reviewing and news process of games. I never really figured gaming journalists had an extreme amount of journalistic integrity or skill.. since if they did, they'd be reporting more on news and not reviewing games.

But to see the outright antagonistic and almost childish attacks on the consumers and fans who dislike the ME3 ending, that's interesting to see. There's a very wide disconnect between the people and the studio, which we're all aware of now. Now we're also aware of the gap between ourselves and the reporters.

It's not a huge surprise to me, and I'm sure a good deal of the users on this forum already knew it, but I was just surprised how obvious it is that they defend EA and such. Many of the reviewers on the gaming sites, IGN, Gamespot, Kotaku, etc, love the game but don't talk about the ending. But they all insult and belittle the fans, trying their best to spread bad press about them. Especially glaring when you notice their staff involved with the games, the ads on their websites for the games.

I guess I'm just surprised that most gaming news sites have about as much professionalism and unbiase as Fox News. On the bright side however, it's made me realize much more how intelligent and thoughtful other fans are. So good and bad revelations from this whole debacle so far.

It seems like the more people rise to these sorts of things the more childish we seem and the less notice we are given.

Sure, but only up to a point.

First, IGN has a very large userbase, and having such a wide reach, it's soemthing to factor in.

Second, as being somewhat of an opinionmaker (yet also very much an opinionfollower), the moment they start to realize what their own userbase leans towards (namely: the RetakeME3 position), they will switch as soon as corporately possible. And that will be a moment to behold.

In the meantime, however, it gives us the ammunition to show that, since we are above such petty insults, those who are, in fact, the childish ones, are the ones accusing us.

Well, to paraphrase (completely misquote?) a certain Turian, they may have the reach, but we have the flexibility.

Hey all,

I've been lurking the movement in the forums for several days since I completed my second playthrough of ME3. I say second because on my first I assumed that I had screwed up during my initial playthrough and needed to build up my EMS to get a better final result. After I recieved the same ending I finally took to researching the ending to see if other outcomes were available. After discovering that I had achieved the BEST outcome in the game I became depressed. I had not gauged how deeply attached I had become to the series, and was shocked that such a poorly composed ending (in my eyes) could personally affect me.

It took me approximately a week to figure out how to even be able to post on the forums; something that I view as a testament to how little I normally am involved in gaming. Mass Effect is the ony series I get excited about, and I play very little games apart from it. I needed to get involved.

In this post I would like to achieve the following things:
1. Potential feedback from those of you in the movement to give me direction on how I can actively participate. I have donated to Child's Play and created a twitter to engage the Mass Effect twitter. Where do I go from here?

2. Discuss how amazing you folks are.

I will be accomplishing number 2 now.

I have witnessed a truly beautiful movement over the last week. To observe peaceful and active protest within a gaming community is something that I did not expect to find, but deeply resonated in me. I may normally not be a gamer, but I do actively campaign for equality in my personal life. This is why I have been so touched to see people stand up for what they believe in, and in such a positive way as well. The charitable nature of the community, and their willingness to put the time and effort into persuing a better gaming experience is something that have changed the way I view video game fans.

Reading some of what people have taken the time to compose on here has made me even more emotional than the game itself. I have been exposed to so many different perspectives and each of them have given me insight to my own personal ME3 feelings. What has struck me the most is how strongly you stand together. The bond that this mutual dissappointment has created is awe-inspiring and yet another positive way to oppose it. It truly embodies Shepard and her/his philosophy that standing together can achieve greatness. I have never been so inspired by a collective fanbase, and would love the opportunity to join in that stand.

For a little insight into me I am an artist by profession and passion. Perhaps this is why I have been so touched by the response to Mass Effect. Video games are entertainment, but they are no more or less art than literature. This is proven by how it inspires an emotional response it its players. That does not negate a negative response to the ending and a desire to change it. If art were so concrete in its convictions and it never evolved due to critique we would all be producing finger-paintings. Critique of a work can and should influence its evolution, and if it is not listened to or disregarded then the author is missing out of further expansion of their work. No artist should be stubborn and stick to their guns 100% of the time, it suggests they have lost the passion to grow. I would truly be honored if people presented me with so many well-formulated critiques. It shows their level of care for the work itself.

I apologize for this lengthy post. In short, continue standing up for what you believe in. There are people out there that are inspired by what you are doing, and have been moved to join you.

I love your post and I'm glad you managed to figure out how to make it onto the forums.

And I completely agree tat the dedication that this movement demonstrates is mind-boggling. If we actually do get a new ending out of this, then the Mass Effect series will go down as my absolute favourite game series ever because, in a way, I helped create part of it and made it better, not once but twice (first time was advocating for Garrus and Tali romances).

But with IGN's own staff being featured in the game, isn't it like a conflict of interest that they are reviewing the game?

I think their review should be very null and void as being too obviously biased to game. Its not like we already know that they are but it just makes it too obvious to the casuals out there.

It's a pretty established fact that IGN was bought and paid for in advert money ages ago. No one is really gonna take anything they say seriously, and this mischaracterization is too obvious and blatant for anyone to take it as more than a bad PR stunt to appease their corporate masters.

So, I have no problem with that video, except for the acting being crappy and the jokes being badly written, and laugh tracks being fake. I write comedy for a living, such poor quality in media writing really enrages me.

It looks like we might be making an impact. The MS store discounted the XBox 360 version to 39$ ... If it wasn't for the uproar over the ending, it would seem to be a bit early to be seeing discounts.

The worst enemy a man can face is a former friend.

Why? Because it’s personal. At some point, people will no longer care about the deflection-style public overtures to listen by Bioware and faux olive branches. They’ll take their bags (and loyalty) and move on. Does Bioware/EA wish this whole thing would go away? You don’t have to be a PR guy to know the answer to that is of course. Do they want to try and find some way to salvage this disconnect and protect the bottom line? Again, of course.

I can only extol everyone to stay involved in this dialogue no matter what side you are one and use your voice (as long as you individually wish of course). Take breaks, but keep on keeping on. Why? Because you are consumers and just as this is ultimately about the bottom line for Bioware/EA, its about where you spend your money and interest in the future as well. As a very dissatisfied consumer, do I still hope Bioware/EA will address this? Absolutely. But even if the end of this becomes “Brokering Solutions but Delivering Stonewalls” this outcry will be talked about in various circles for years. The social media has been amazing in letting people come together from around the world, a charity has benefited, I watched people on this thread engage in some of the most insightful and supportive discourse I’ve ever seen, and each of your who have spoken up have sent a clear message to the gaming industry that will likely become a cautionary tale in PR circles. /salute

Stay strong, stay civil, stay passionate no matter what side you favor and keep well! Time to get back to work.

Indeed.

I want to say that I've talked to many people not so familiar with this boards who are equally dissatisfyed by the ending and engage in passionate discussions about solutions and memes created about it.

Also, I've read some really great articles and statements about the whole discussion, mainly at Forbes but also on some German sites.

Have hope, stay civil. Hold the Line.

And long live Marauder Shields! ;)

Just in case anyone doesn't know we just started a twitter campaign to get #RetakeME3 trending on twitter. Here's the link:

http://pay.reddit.co...twitter_monday/

They have a baseline example but personalize it a bit, and you don't just have to send it to @MassEffect, just include #RetakeME3 if you've got something you'd like to ask @HarbyTheReaper :)

If IGN is going to reduce itself to mocking and namecalling then they're not worth the attention, just ignore them.
