I love your post and I'm glad you managed to figure out how to make it onto the forums.

And I completely agree tat the dedication that this movement demonstrates is mind-boggling. If we actually do get a new ending out of this, then the Mass Effect series will go down as my absolute favourite game series ever because, in a way, I helped create part of it and made it better, not once but twice (first time was advocating for Garrus and Tali romances).

Thanks!

I agree. It would be a change for the better within the industry. Hopefully other companies would take note. How awesome would it be to have a genuinely collaborative entertainment industry? It seems only right that video games elevate entertainment by continuing to further involve the player.

Unnecessary Censorship in Video Games: Mass Effect 3

If you want to show them how you really feel, vote with your wallet, it's the only thing they understand and the greatest power we have as consumers. EA is already rich, but don't make them richer by rewarding the sort of crap they've handed us this time around.

I saw that earlier and it's HILARIOUS! Especially Miranda's scene.

I encourage everyone who needs a laugh to check it out.

Whatever it contains, any DLC which doesn't adress the ending will be pointless. If it's content which takes place before the end-game I see no reason to play it since everything in the entire franchise thus far is rendered meaningless in the end. Don't buy their excuses, don't by their talk of "internal discussions", don't accept anything they say until you get what you want - change. But most importantly; don't buy ANY DLC unless it gives you the change you want. Let your voices be heard and do so politely but firmly. Keep the pressure up and hold the line.

Nicole is leaving the line for now . Nicole needs to get some sleep because her alarm clock will ring in 7 hours.

Also she made some phonecalls to the EA helpdesk in the Netherlands about the Ashes DLC was not working wich is fixed now ( it was the microsoft internet settings holding EA to connect). and Nicole talked about the face import Bug and the answer she got was at no use at all.

about the endings well they would not talk at all to Nicole.
But Nicole got 2 code's for a discount on Origin she can use for 1 month.

well well well.........

Nicole at this moment is really not considering to buy any other material in anyway from Origin until she sees that ore EA ore Bioware will give a respond to this topic and the topic issues with face import.

Take care you all.

Honestly, the only reason I seem to get from people like IGN is that their happy with what they got and think everyone who doesn't agree with them needs to shut up. That's wrong on so many levels, and we can't let stuff like that effect this movement.

Keep up the fight, boys!!

In the meantime, however, it gives us the ammunition to show that, since we are above such petty insults, those who are, in fact, the childish ones, are the ones accusing us.

I would've thought that by now we've learned to focus on our own strength rather on the weakness of those that oppose us.

Oh, but the fact that we hae the ammunition, doesn't mean we have to fire it. In fact, in this case, that would only be detrimental to our position.

But the problem with ME3 isn't an artistic one - it is a story and game mechanics one.  The end doesn't deliver what was advertised for many months by the developers.  They are artists to an extent - but they are also delivering a product.

We need to remember that Mass Effect is not high art - it is an entertainment product.  The consumer has every right to demand that the product deliver what was promised.  That's it.  It is business.

Films are just as much "entertainment products" as they are art. Some films lean more towards one direction, others to the other. I certainly wouldn't bill a film like Melancholia or Antichrist as pure entertainment, just like I wouldn't call a film like Crank high art.

ME3 is so interseting because it serves us so very well in both an artistic and entertainment way that people are getting confused.

I agree that as consumers we were lied to. This is a separate issue from the art issue, though. ME3 is also high art. I don't think these two qualities HAVE to be reconciled with one another.

You're right - but the primary difference between Mass Effect (as a video game) and any film is that Mass Effect requires interaction from the player to make decisions which direct the story.  If I do not make these decisions the story stands still and doesn't move forward.  As the consumer/player you have some control over the direction of the story - unlike a film.

That is where the problem with Mass Effect 3's ending comes in - it takes that promised control out of the hands of the consumer and delivers it to a pseudo deus ex mechina - delivering an ending that is polar opposite to what Casey Hudson said would happen.

My point is that there is no "art issue."  Art doesn't factor into this, because Mass Effect 3 is a beautiful game - with a mostly well crafted story and character development.  The problem is that the story development and one of the primary gameplay mechanics - choice - is broken by the ending.

Is there a place where you can send these codes and politely point out that you simply aren't interested in any more product from EA until you can trust that you will be getting the product you thought you were playing for in the first place? Namely, the entire game you were promised including the ability to play with your original ME1 custom Shepards and an ending that both makes sense and ends Shepard's story in a satisfying way that grants closure?

Until you can be assured of that, they can take their discount codes and stick 'em where the sun don't shine. Image IPB

There's nothing insulting about that video as it's too childish to be taken seriously. It's only purpose is to demean and mock the movement (and placate their advertisers), but what they don't understand is that IGN is promoted as a professional video gaming site. Content of that nature only serves to hurt their image already more than it has been. In the future, will you consider them to be an objective source (assuming you did in the first place)? Will you subscribe to their premium site? Remember these times because it's filled with knowledge some people didn't posses before. Furthermore, as ReavousX stated, IGN's own poll has fans disagreeing with them, so truly, who looks the fool here?

This is to me is cool as ****. We have a ton of fans working to get the ending changed and we have a former PR guy guessing Bioware/EA's actions before they even do them, we have a military historian telling us how to win, and a former military man. This is really exciting! No matter what happens we will make video game history. I think this is just the beginning of gamers finally standing up and allowing video games to reach new heights of greatness.

It's all together disheartening that its other media outlets that are spurning us with negative, derisive, and sometimes offensive comments while so much of the Retake Mass Effect movement has been uplifting in its desire to take the 'high road'. I know I was immediately willing to join up when I saw the simple - and beautiful - idea of the Childs Play drive as a way to show that we're serious and conscientious.

And then I read articles like this:
http://www.inenterta...nges-the-rules/

With lines like this:
"There are so many ways to look at the end of Mass Effect 3 and some gamers who seem to have a deeper understanding of life believe that what Bioware done was a perfect way to end the journey of Shepard..."
Seriously? I'm a well educated 30-year-old mother of two young sons; wife of an active duty Marine. I dislike the ME3 ending. I believe it to be riddled with plot holes and weak literary devices. I believe it provides a deeper sense of confusion and disillusionment than it does any amount of 'pragmatic' realism or closure. And that means I do not have a "deeper understanding of life"?

It's articles like that which make me all the more determined to keep pointing out that what I want (and I think most of us want) is precisely what the current ending does not provide: A greater sense of continuity and in-game realism that stays true to the IP and universe it started five years ago. Not some cliche idea that 'life isn't fair' so we are only 'pragmatic' if we choose to swallow a nonsensical ending that leaves us feeling helpless and manipulated. Life isn't about fairness or the lack thereof, life is about what we as individuals and a community are willing to make of it. I for one still believe the ME writers are fully capable of delivering an ending - or additions/fixes to the current ending - that prove just how progressive, fulfilling and jointly enjoyable a true collaborative effort can be.

And yes... still holding the line.
Right behind Marauder Shields :)

I havent beat the game yet(so no outright spoilers pls) but I heard ME3's ending is similar to Halo 3's Legendary Ending.....some ppl hated that ending at the time but look what Bungie(343) really had planned.

I know Bioware said this is the end of Shepard's story, but you never know. :P

I'll start by apologizing for any spelling or typing misstakes i've made here. I am a bad typer and an even worse spell-checker. But hopefully you will understand the post anyway.

I don't write much in the other threads about these subjects any more, nor in this one for
that matter. Mostly because they keep moving too fast to even keep
up. And secondly because everything I want to say is being said by
other in a a better than I ever I could. But this thread is really
really great. I love the initiative and thank you OP for keeping that
post updated. Makes me be able to actually follow this whole
spectacle without having to read 100 + pages a day just to maybe have
a chance to keep up with all of this.

I am one of the loyal loving Bioware fans that got so surprised at her
own reaction to the whole ending. I have never felt so betrayed, so
lost for words or thought. I was utterly heartbroken and I felt silly
for caring so much. Thanks to these forums I realised I was not
alone. I am terrified of ever buying a Bioware game if this is what
it will do to me in the end. The whole feeling that a game can make
me feel this bad is too much for me to handle. I also want to chip in
that I love Mass Effect. I love the universe, the characters and the
story. Sure there are things I don't really understand or like, but
overall my experience with the ME series is fantastic. I have never
looked forward to a game as much as I did Mass Effect 3. And I looked
forwards to many games in my time. World of Warcraft being one of
them, and SWTOR being another. I was basically bouncing in my chair
the last months before the release living on BSN which I had never
even visited before that.

But the way they handled this whole fiasco of an ending is just below all
expectation. I don't understand how all these statements of the game
could be so much further from the truth. The outright lies we got
thrown in our faces. '

Quoting Casey Hudson:

As Mass Effect 3 is the end of the planned trilogy, the developers are
not constrained by the necessity of allowing the story to diverge,
yet also continue into the next chapter. This will result in a story
that diverges into wildly different conclusions based on the player's
actions in the first two chapters”

Did I play a different Mass Effect 3 than Casey did? Because this is not
at all how I perceived the ending.

Mike Gamble:

We wouldn't do it any other way. How could you go through all three
campaigns playing as your Shepard and then
be
forced into a bespoke ending that everyone gets
?
But I can't say any more than that...”

Whether you're happy or angry at the ending, know this: it is an ending.
Bioware will not do a ”Lost” and leave fans with more questions
than answers after finishing the game.”

Sure I admit, I'm not a native English speaker. So maybe these statements
mean something different from how I interpret them. But I sure as
h*ll have a helluva lot more questions now than I did before I
finished ME3.

There are so many more quotes I just cba to bring up here. But I just
wanted to pitch in a bit and just say that I will, as many others
here, keep Holding the Line. Mass Effect deserves so much better than
this. We deserve so much better than this.
