This reminds of the story of Oedipus. The king who acceidently killed his father, who was the king before him. Of course the Greek play has Oedipus marrying his mother, and birthing two children... but you get what I mean right?
This is the perfect example of the tragic hero.

I do. It makes it easier to empathize with Casey. But that's the nice thing about tragic heroes, you don't have to like them or forgive them, even if you can understand them.

i'll feel a lot better when i see him say this: (in the words of mordin)  I made a mistake!!!

I also find it hard to believe that, knowing this trilogy was at the end, they would purposely let that script get produced.

I have to say again that considering who they had on the writing team there had to be some influence from outside Bioware. It still doesn't change why we are here. They need to address some (hopefully all) of the glaring issues with the game. So we wait while they decide yes or no, and if the answer they give is "yes" which issues will they fix? We have quite a list, but might have to settle for the most popular "top 2 or 3", so if you haven't already, make sure you vote in the polls.

Have a good night all. <S>

That is the nice thing about Greek tragedies.  The main characters generally have very clearly defined flaws that are always their downfall.  Is Casey's his devotion to his corporate overlords despite the intellectual hollowness of his argument and the futility against us, the masses?  Only time will tell.

Or Achilles who wanted fame so much he sacrificed his own life in the battle for Troy. I love Greek mythology it is sooooooooooo relevant to this.

Playing SWTOR now instead of ME3. Enough said.

I bought and played SWTOR only because it was from Bioware. Before ME3 came out - I talked seven friends into buying it. Now...I cant even play it and 4 of my friends have canceled their subscriptions. I will be canceling mine if this cant be resolved because I dont want to be this disappointed in a story driven MMO if this is how they plan on writing SWTOR...

There is a word, "hubris" that can and does destroy the greatest concepts/goals. I suspect that this may have been the cause of the ending that so many of us dislike.

I keep picturing Casey as Icarus, flying too close to the sun.

Huh, I was thinking MacBeth, but Icarus works too.  If not better.

The problem with Mass Effect, is that I have been like Odysseus for 2.95 games and then I am suddenly turned into Oedipus in that last 0.05 part of the game. It just feels completely out of place.

I have a feeling we both prefered the Iliad to the Odyssey. I sometimes think tragedy is a lost art form.

I hate to bring in any more outside news sources, but I just saw this on Yahoo and thought I'd share. Apparently, all of us that are unhappy with the ending are a vocal minority. The news article is as follows.

I agree. Man up to it and say "We rushed it" or "We made a bad call." Then offer to help fix it.

Tragedy is a lost art form. Of course Greek tradegy was like almost 6 hours at times. We need longer attention spans.<_<

I was curious if there would be any news regarding the FTC complaints, more than I expected, honestly.

This question will answer everything. As yourself, why would Shepard need to destroy the conduits to make the Crucible work? Since when does destroying something make something work?!?!? Or how about space jumping into a beam and falling to your death??? How does that make the Crucible work??? Ask yourself these questions and you will see that it may not be poor writing after all...

Has anyone else seen this? Amazon offering refunds on ME3. http://www.analoghyp...-mass-effect-3/

I think this is the first real measurable gain we've made with this movement. Now it might not be all us, it could be Amazon's reaction. But people and companies are taking notice of our anger at just how bad this ending is. Stay calm, stay civil, get some rest and then afterwards hold the line!
