I really want to know why they didn't simply scale up the Suicide Mission from ME2. Replace squad members "go here, do this" with RACES. The more people you got on your team, to more War Assets you could deploy. Scale up, deploy the might of the galaxy at a macro-level (cutscene or audio, like in ME2), while managing your squad at the micro-level (just like ME2), and playing the game for your team (just like ME2).

And then give some darn closure.

This would have been fantastic. I saved giant space bugs and I didn't even get a "reporting in" message from them. :/ I didn't even see their ship during the final fight. They promised they would help me. But I didn't feel like they were there. Their presence was deminished to a number on a menu screen.

I have come to trust each of you with my life -- but I have also heard murmurs of discontent. I share your concerns.
We are trained for espionage; we would be legends, but the records are sealed. Glory in battle is not our way.
Think of our heroes; the Silent Step, who defeated a nation with a single shot. Or the Ever Alert, who kept armies at bay with hidden facts.
These giants do not seem to give us solace here, but they are not all that we are.
Before the network, there was the fleet. Before diplomacy, there were soldiers!
Our influence stopped the rachni, but before that we held the line!
Our influence stopped the krogan, but before that, we held the line!
Our influence will stop Saren; in the battle today, we will hold the line!”

Hold the Line!

I really loved that part of Mass Effect 1.  And, truthfully, I was really hopinh Kirrahe would show up as a recruitable characters in ME2 or 3.  Unfortunately, he did not.  How disappointing.

I was thinking I'd take part in this Operation: Goliath event, but after reading this thread, I really don't think I will.  I feel so disillusioned with Bioware that I have no desire to play any Mass Effect.

Perhaps, instead, I'll play Dragon Age:  Origins.  A game before Bioware fell to mediocrity.  Or maybe I'll give Rift another try.

To everyone here, reading these posts and hearing what your brothers and sisters in arms have to say, I wish to make a call to understand what we may be fighting for here. Bioware stood for something grand and admirable at one time, that is part of what makes this betrayal hurt us so, and if Bioware can do this to us, what is to stop it from becoming more and more common that game developers will hold back what should be coming out with the game the day it is released for ransom from us, the loyal fans and consumers that keep them in business?

This is a battle now, where we all stand together, to end a war before it begins. A war that could turn gaming down a terribly dark and unforgiving path. I do not mean to call DLC evil or unnecessary, but day-one-DLC and DLC that is designed just to get more money out of us so we can experience the real story as it should be told, these are the things that hurt video gaming and us as gamers and lovers for one of the latest mediums for the expression of story telling and more.

Hold the line, do not falter, do not give in to anger, do not give them weapons to use against us, and end this war for our future of video gaming before it begins.

I have background in PR, so I'll reiterate everything my more experienced friend here has said, but add one thing.

They very possibly will be looking for ways to provoke people either into silent hopelessness or trying to get you to exhaust yourselves by way of giving them "feedback" over and over again. Marginalization (like saying "some of our most passionate fans") has the double effect of seeming like a provocation, with the goal of making you throw your hands up, Don't let it.

Remain Civil. Remain Steadfast. IMO this is a battle that the gaming industry needs to have, vis a vis the trends developers and publishers have taken in the last few years.

Yeah we have to keep focused they are using the feedback topics to wear us down.

We need to hold the line!

This guy right here has it right. We need to find ways to keep awareness up. Writing in the forums, twitter, facebook and donating to charity are good mediums to spread our message, but if we intend to keep this movement from getting stagnent we need to think of new and innovative ways to let Bioware (and other gamers) know we're still around.

great read.

though i have my issues with some of the community in regards to the whole "entitlement issue" (pre-release)... i believe the "ending debacle" is a separate issue entirely. i have no clue what they were thinking...the ending was neither happy or unhappy...it wasnt good...it was bad..maybe it wasnt written that way and something got lost in translation (to computer code or some junk) i hope it is fixed...and i think if BW nuts up and handles this right...they will gain a following the likes of which no other game company has ever seen....unless they mess it up with the next game (assuming they fix this mess of course)...cuz once bitten twice shy..and many of us got bit with DAII.

Exactly. DA:O had lots of ending options that ran the gambit pretty well. I really enjoyed seeing them play out, but my favorite does have my Warden live.

I just want Mass Effect 3 to have that same level of respect and choice.

Mine too, but I did like exploring the other options. I don't even fundamentally object to the 3 choices already on ME3. The idea of "controlling" the Reapers is pretty good-- a Paragon Shepard might use it to act like a benevolent-ish god, and a Renegade Shepard could just go nuts with a bunch of genocidal giant space nautilii.  Would have been nice for Shep to get the choices too. Just like they claimed he or she would... I really, really don't understand why they just didn't go for a DAO style ending. The ending was just so discordant and off-tone that I was reminded of Poochie:

This is well written and factual. Though not as well versed as the gentleman on the front page I do have knowledge of PR stunts/writing as well as being trained in statement analysis and interpretation. People fighting the good fight need to pass knowledge of this thread onto others and make anyone who cares to, know about this thread.

Keep it civil,
Keep it focused,
and keep up the pressure.

That would have been amazing. And would have opened up the stage for a wide variety of endings depending on what races do what!

I'm not buying into anything until I hear definitive news from the horse's mouth that changes to the ending are indeed coming.

Thanks for the interesting perspective.

I really have to say everything what's forwarded by the OP isn't just relevant but it's kind of a fascinating read in its own right. I feel like I could almost use this scenario events, articles, and responses in a paper. If only I was taking classes that had anything to do with business right now lol

Marauder Shields, guide us to the end.

Edit: to the proper end, without space magic and A.I. wizardry.

Nah thanks... The ME series to me is about the story... Not some hoard rip off... So "Free stuff for MP" is doing nothing for me... Better. Ending. For. Shepard. Thats what I (and the rest of my fellow comrades) want!
Besides don't you think the three endings are unfair to the color blind? o-O They only get ONE ending...

Holding the line!

This is a great thread, one that's kept my attention and had me reading all 26 or so pages. Thanks for the insight. I worked production for a large media company in Chicago and I too saw the workings of a PR department that had to consistently work with criticism from consumers and critics alike (even their very own employees! Can you believe that?).

Although I'm no expert on the details, it's great to see Atghunger's perspective and analysis.

If I can add one note, though: I honestly believe that Mr. Hudson is being completely honest with his own passion and high regard for both the development he led and the product he created. The words he writes about him and his team are completely true and his opinion of the game is honest. Yes I'm sure it was edited and factchecked by EA's PR group and that's probably necessary for the company to cover their own tracks because they're still not sure which direction they're going to move. But I appreciate the honest tone and continued love for a franchise that we all (and we do all share this) are very passionate about.

I haven't touched ME3 since I finished it. What I have done is write of most of the "Gaming Journalists," who seem to think having an opinion makes you an entitled brat. I sincerely hope, Bioware isn't taking its cues from the media because I would hate for ME3 to be the last Bioware title I buy.

I'll hold the line.

I think we all know that the "self selecting poll" bit was very misleading but as one who couldn't argue it on a factual level would you people able to easily explain how accurate it most likely is?  Because yesterday they went from throwing the polls in our faces to telling us to actually make polls.

I'm not a mathematician and I'm no professional pollster; the most exposure I have to it is the handful of methodology and statistics classes I had to suffer through for my political science degree. The gist is, even in the case of the most egregious push polling, the more responses you get the more representative it will be of actual popular opinion. I am really, really, really oversimplifying here, because the calculus you need to do to account for sampling error and various biases is not something I remember, and if I did it's not something I'd do at 2 am on Friday night...

...but to put it into perspective, that poll only needed in the neighborhood of 16,000 responses to be 99% sure the results would in fact be within 1% of the actual opinion. That's a level of statistical rigor nobody applies to opinion polling. Using the level of rigor applied by professional pollsters, it needed 1,000 responses to be 95% sure the results would be within 3% of the actual opinion.

One last thing before I really ought to do something else, haha.

Part of their plan and their strength is to be vague and non-commital. It might be useful to ask them specifics.

One very useful thing to ask them is what can they actually do, practically speaking, from a coding perspective? What can they change and what can they not change? Will they have to tack a DLC on at the end? What will this change with the endings now?

If they remain vague then you can bet all this talk is simply PR spinning and distraction. Pablum. You'll have to keep pressing them on it too.

Exactly. Totally just Bioware hoping that their fans have short attention spans and will be distracted by new shinies.

Plus I've seen a large number of people on BSN canceling their SWTOR accounts in protest of the ME3's endings.
