Exactly. People, don't fall for it. As much as I like Multiplayer, I will NOT be taking part in that challenge.Bachuck wrote...
I think the most important, and intelliegent, post I've read on these forums since this controversy started has been this one from a user named atghunter. I shall quote:atghunter wrote...
Posted this yesterday, I'll repost here. Hope it helps to see what's on the other side of the mirror atm.
I don't think Bioware is out of touch with their customers though I agree with an earlier poster that right now they are assessing their options. Nor do I think that everyone speaking up for them at the moment is a "yes man" or shill. That said:
I don't for a moment think there are any other endings, this was a hallucination, etc. Bioware/EA is letting these speculations go on for two reasons. First, they are letting people vent. Secondly, they are weighing options.
Years ago, I worked for a PR damage control team and everything right now is going by the book. First, re-affirm and ignore (also known as doubling down), then try and define the detractors in the mainstream with things like "this is all a big mistunderstand", etc. while remaining civil in the hopes the detractors go rabid. Meanwhile go dark and use countermeasures through third part sources to prop up your position and brand the outcry as driven by hacks, haters or a minority trying to wear out the detractors on these outlets or "shock troops" while protecting the corporate core. Next, offer something distracting (notice SWTOR is free this upcoming weekend) known as the "faux olive branch"/ask the angry people to explain their concerns (without agreeing to commit to a compromise), buy more add time (definitely going on right now), and hope it dies down. If the pressure is still on, determine the economic viability of 1) ignoring the outcry and banking on the fickle nature of consumers to get over it or 2) determining if we can make money off of fixing it.
If it is any consolation, the decision whether or not there is a fix DLC, etc, won't be made by the writers so illusions to things they wanted to convey don't matter much atm (to wit: the leads comments yesterday). I suspect he's been called in and politely told by the PR guys to not do that again. This is now a corporate problem, not an artistic struggle with fans. Somewhere in the EA bunker, attorneys, PR guys, writers and brass are sharing numbers b/c in the end this will come down to hard currency.
As one who despises the endings, I'm hoping the suits tell the visionaries that the customers are loud enough and numerous enough to swollow their pride and get them out of this storm. For those that love them, I readily accept your position and respectfully disagree.
And now today we have Bioware announcing this N7 weekend baloney. Sadly, a lot of the same people who have sworn off Bioware are posting in that thread asking how they can be a part of it. <_<
Does no one see what's going on?

I'm not, actually. But Mass Effect is not some niche game. It sells millions of copies. Crusader Kings 2 is a niche game. Destroying Bioware like this makes no sense from a business stand-point.Capeo wrote...

The problem is, if it dies down, that people have moved on and left Bioware. That is a lot of future revenue thrown out the window and for what? Saving face? Come on, the best way to regain the trust of their fans, in order to ensure their next titles sell as well as ME3, is to be open and engaged with the community, not hiding in a bunker.
Your ignoring the history of EA taking niche titles and burning them to the ground for profit then abandoning them. Your ignoring that this game had a mode where decisions are made for you. They're RPGS fans are not who they are catering to anymore. Or won't be in the future anyway.

It does not directly fund revenue to the company
No, but it does show EA/BioWare that people are still playing their game. You can't have your cake and eat it too. If your going to commit, then fully commit. Stop playing the game altogether. This half-assed bulls**t I see from this "movement" is sickening.

This has been said many times over, in multiple threads. But you can't stop people comming up with theories and grasping straw. It is sort of a panic situation. I can even tell you what Bioware will do. The same as they did with DA2. Do you see alot of complaints at the DA2 site? Not anymore. Bioware if they want can wait for months or a year.
I am not sure what would satisfy me more atm. That Bioware fixed ME3 or that they don't and the company goes down because customers don't like their general business attitude. Either would be a proper ending to my Bioware intermezzo, because after ME3, no matter how it ends, I am out.
You're right to have that concern. And if you are right, here's what I'm going to do:
MASS EFFECT 3 has been killed in my eyes. I won't play it again, as is, nor will I go back to parts 1 and 2. The journey is fun, but it leads to a pool of sh!t, and I just have no diesre to put myself through that.
Effective immediately: ME3 has been put on my gaming shelf. If I play any video games this weekend, it'll be SKYRIM, which I'm still working on.
If I don't hear anything about ME3 this month: I cancel my pre-order for both waves of action figures. I don't buy ANY DLC for ME3 that doesn't fix the ending.
Long term: I write off EA and BioWare. No more games from either. No ME4, ME Online, DA III, whatever...
Just not going to happen.
I don't say this out of entitlement. But rather from a place of preference. ME3 is awful in its current version. Game breaking, in my eyes. My time/money will be spent on things that won't burn me like MASS EFFECT has. And that's going to cost BioWare at least one customer from now on.
But I suspect it'll be more.

You all know the mission, and what is at stake.
I have come to trust each of you with my life -- but I have also heard murmurs of discontent. I share your concerns.

We will hold the line!

Your line reminds me what we discussed the ME3 fiasco in the WoW forums. Another user said something along the lines of, "Let's hope other companies learn what they shouldn't do and Blizzard doesn't ruin the Star Craft franchise like this."Shepard3817 wrote...
right, absolutely right, the timing was too perfect, let's hope that the pressure will not fade
maybe we will not save the ME franchise, but at least we will avoid this for future games
I get this sinking feeling BW might just loose a lot of credibility with its fanbase because of this. It will just become another 'mediocre' game studio within a few years.

Look at the thread that Bioware started that states "We are listening...".
It starts by saying that they are listening to what people have to say. No statement as to whether they actually intend to do anything, but they will listen.
Then it states "Now lets give thanks to Shepard. What was your favorite Shepard moment?"
Give me a break. The whole "give thanks" to a fictional character is frankly insulting. On top of it, this is a clear attempt to deflect the thread into something that is praising the game, instead of the thread's stated purpose of being a place to provide feedback to Bioware on its failure to address the wants of the customer base.
And what's worse is that a number of people got suckered by it. They actually started posting about things they liked about Shepard.

I took that on good faith. They said they'd address the ending, but they clearly wanted to hear some POSITIVE feedback as well. Perhaps in an effort to justify this rampant backlash to the big bosses at EA.
But that's all the get. We gave them feedback. Now they've got to answer us.
