Thank God RE: Raccoon City comes out on Tuesday so I can just forget about this abortion of a video game franchise, here's to Mass Effect 1...the last bastion of the Mass Effect franchise, it should have remained a sleeper hit, cult classic and never went mainstream.

Cheers.

I know that's right!

I'm gonna ditch this game for Ninja Gaiden 3...at least I won't expect a good story!

Eh, regardless of what others on the board say, Thank you for talking with us.

Mr. Lee
You mentioned it's been a difficult week. Out of curiosity, why has it been a difficult week?

Again out of curiosity, and if you don't mind me asking are you a (just) forum moderater or one of the developers?

Im the senior marketing guy....one of them. Have been for the whole franchise really. I can't tell if your question is serious or if yer messing with me :)  the fan reaction is difficult to watch, after all the hard work basically. I'm not a moderator really, just an employee.

You got through to me, so that's one victory. I have no idea why, but I am very inclined to believe you and take your words to heart. I hope the team does the right thing by the fans. I love Mass Effect. I will have faith.

Your willingness to talk is appreciated, but until there's some official word that goes beyond empty assurances and platitudes I think you're going to continue to encounter a lot of skepticism. That being said, I think we all appreciate your effort to engage with us. I've been shocked at how little traffic there has been from bioware on the forums. Maybe everyone's afraid of the torches and pitchforks? This is the most I've seen from any employee on this forum to date.

You are corrent in that you can infer a lot from relatively small sample sizes, if the pool is selected carefully. A sample of hundreds could tell you a lot if it is representative of the whole population. On the other hand, a bad sample can give biased results from huge sizes. Since you have a poli sci background, polling half the state of Alabama would not give an accurate account of who would win a presidential election. I agree that the BSN poll shows that fans of the series generally dislike the ending, but my inner researcher has to point out the difference between scientific and non-scientific polling. I am on your side, though. I signed up here just to voice my dissatisfaction with the ME3 ending. Hold the line.

Still, when a poll has 50,000 respondents, and you could assume a margin of error of 40% and still have half the people opposed to the ending, that says a lot, no matter how the poll was conducted.

That is a valid point. But how many copies of the games have been sold? If you take that into account and consider the worst scenerio, the margin of errors are hardly 40%.

And as charon45 said in his post, he/she signed up just to voice his/her dissatisfaction (just like me). In the forum we saw tons of people like that, meaning whoever isn't pissed off enough probably never bothered to come here to vote.

Agreed.

Even if a new ending is a year down the road, just tell us now. We can live with that.

Pretty much this!  Thanks for responding Jarret- and personally, I'm going to cling like the dickens to my denial and the belief that, if "indoctrination" wasn't preplanned (as an overwhelming amount of evidence is beginning to suggest) you guys are at least going to run with it :)  Here's hoping, and here's believing that not all, or even many BW devs are evil, mustache twirling PR goons.:P

Well see, the differance here is we arn't babies. We have credits cards and cold cash, the bait and switch tactic works both ways.

Wave enough money infront of EA and they WILL come over the grab it. That's when you yank it away and watch them fall on their face. Just watch, something is happening and it's going to be fun to watch.

I actually do feel badly for you guys.  I bet nobody there has had the greatest week.  It doesn't change my mind about the ending of the game, mind you, but I know it can't be any fun dealing with it in anybody's department.

So, I'm not gonna let up on your company, but I do hope you're able to get some rest. :)

I was not messing with you. I was sincere.

Edit: Sorry to hear that, but know that we're upset only because we love the game greatly.
We don't want you to feel bad but... Someone on your side screwed up. Sorry.
Fix it.

HAHA, I'm sorry, but I'm busting a gut here. Not in mockery but just... the drollery of this situation. If you're in marketing, then you're going to be very involved in the PR side of it, which will only further stoke conspiracy theory and suspicion. I love infinite logic loops of second-guessing. For instance, I can then wonder if you specifically pointed that out to disarm the people here, because it will seemingly show sincerity. Oh man.

I don't want to seem like I'm harassing you... I'm really not. It's just effing amusing from a twisted perspective. Constantly second-guessing and suspecting Mr. Lee is going to be futile in the end. People are already healthily skeptical and it is kind of nice to have some sort of response.

You're complaints are being heard, and considered and discussed etc, but I wouldn't read so much into some of the marketing stuff we're doing.  Nobody is happy or dismissive about the fan reaction, at BioWare. Quite the opposite really. These are good people who care deeply about the work they do.

Guess that's all I wanted to say for now. Have a good night/weekend.

<_<

Fine.

I shall hold the line more patiently.

......Thanks for the response, Jarret.

Let me make my point this way.  Some people are saying that it is 50k people out of 900k who bought the game so it is meaningless.  At the opposite end of that, people could say a sample that big can be used to infer an exact percentage of players who were dissatisfied with the ending.  The truth is somewhere in between, but probably much closer to evidence that a majority of the fans are dissatisfied than it is to meaningless.  On an anecdotal level, I am a regular on another board that is not a gamer board.  Only about 1 in 10 of the people who have completed it were satisfied with the ending.

I don't care what anyone says, your posts are appreciated. People can put as much of their own "spin" on it as they want. I don't think people understand that you don't have anything to gain by lying to us. If your truly on your off time entertaining us here on the forums I won't stop you but don't burn the candle at both ends. I've found that work is best left at work.

Very nice thread......I do believe that the game is in desperate need of clarification regarding the endings but I also believe an ending DLC was always intended as a moneymaker similar to Fallout 3 but the "intended" reaction was probably to have us ask for DLC which did happen but it seems this kind of blew up in their faces with a far stronger reaction than they probably anticipated and are VERY pressed for time to cool down the situation with a lot of returned copies and rage all over the place but it's probably too early to announce the DLC.....if it's even remotely close to ready and I think it can be anywhere from an idea stage to completely finished but being timed for release. I do think this was at least partially intended because otherwise they either screwed up big time(which i doubt, they'd have probably delayed it at least 3 more months, there was time) or are straight up incompetent, which is extremely unlikely.

At this point I think they are trying to cool the situation for at least a month or two before they can reasonably announce an ending changing DLC while maintaining the believability that it was developed after this mess happened but at the same time it seems the situation is probably more dire than they expected so pricing and timing/development are going to be HUGE internal issues right now.

Personally I am looking forward to seeing what they say next though it looks like they are trying to spin the "we value and listen to our customers so here's DLC" ball.

Ever since I finished the game I've felt the same way. But why wait? With all the turmoil over the ending I'm positive that an announcement or DLC release would sell better now rather than later when we've moved on to something else. I work in sales and you have to strike while the iron is hot. They dont do this for free and they are sitting on a goldmine. Take the opportunity while its yours for the taking.

They probably won't wait much longer if it's even remotely close to ready which I'm inclined to think it is.. But is IS a highly explosive situation so they are probably choosing their words and pricing VERY carefully right now. At any rate I think we'll have something within a couple of months at most.

Does that mean you were part of the team that came up with the "Take Earth Back" campaign knowing full well how the game ended?

I hope you don't zip it, even just to chat with us. You've said some of the most gentle things to actually make it sound like you guys are listening. After getting what seems like quite the opposite reaction in Casey's letter, it's nice to hear someone actually is concerned.

A lot of people are worked up, unfortunately, this is a big deal to us. It's only getting made worse by the lack of things we hear from people at Bioware. It's fairly easy to see the tones of hurt leading to anger on these forums and over what points. We're all looking for a solution. Hopefully there will be one soon.

Wow my last post for tonight ill check back daily once maybe twice for updates on the issue but i will say this im on official boycott now. Many many thanks to atghunter youve settled the debate ive had to do this since i beat the game and started on these forums.

To the Bioware/EA bigwigs if your listening and even care this is one person who will not purchase or play any more of your products. I am removing my collectors edition disc from my xbox now and ill be sure to let everyone i know about this debacle.Should you ever choose to fix the trust with your customers and the end of our beloved Mass Effect 3 i will be happy to consider purchasing your products again.

Again thanks atghunter your posts were very insightful.............HOLD THE LINE EVERYONE

If you guys are listening that is good. Please take the time to read the thought out and will written posts concerning our .. displeasure at the ending. This type of writing is beneath this company and an insult to a well written and enjoyable game series.
