Burn-out, possibly.  Gaming is a tough industry - long hours for months at a time (and you don't get overtime), and as Brent said you don't get royalties either.  When I was in the industry, average lifespan for a developer in games was something like 3 years.

It sounds like he likes living in Edmonton, as there are plenty of game studios in Montreal and Vancouver if he wanted to stay north of the border.

You dont get royalties.  Someone needs better lawyers

Quite makes Valve quite remarkable in that prospect, as only 9~10 people left the company over its entire lifespan. Then again, Valve is a private-owned company, which makes them completely immune from stockholder's demand.

I didn't even realize the lead designer of DA:O left Bioware. It seems they are losing all their old talent.

This.

Plus we can be pretty sure that DA3 will be screwed up from the beginning just like ME3.

EA must be involved and take Dragon Age and Mass Effect titles from BioWare to prevent further epic fails if possible (like Halo).

Give them to Epic Games or Bungie.

1- He is only commenting on the ending judged on what the angry fans are shouting, which is an extremely unfair and biased reaction. I went in to the game fearing the ending because of everything that was said on the forums and left the game not minding it at all. So by this alone, his opinion is difficult to take seriously. It only follows the pattern of people hating because they want to hate and nothing more.

2- His two points are that the choices should matter, and that the game should end on a positive note, neither of which were problems with Mass Effect 3 in my book. All of my choices were summed up very nicely, and in fact this is one of the game's strong points: the genophage, the Geth and the Quarians, saving the Rachni and them actually being peaceful... all of these were addressed, validated, and finalized.

And for ending on a positive note, the reapers blew up and everyone, Shepard included, survived. I guess I don't see the tragedy here.

And before you "Everyone is going to starve on Eaaaarrrthhhh!!" at me, they have the biggest, smartest, pan-species group of scientists and engineers ever assembled together and just fought off an apocalyptic invasion by building the most complex and advanced undertaking ever developed in the history of the galaxy.

This has got to be a joke, did you miss the part where the destruction of the mass relays crippled the galaxy? And how that'll affect the races you mentioned?

All they did was assemble the crucible, the plans were already there, and apparently as smart as they were, none of them figured out it could also be also used the control the reapers or cause space magic :wizard:

Of course DA:O lead designer would say this... that game was a masterpiece! full closure! and every choice i made during the game basically shaped the ending of the game.

Microsoft had the copyright of Halo series. In the end they took Halo from Bungie, cut all relations and gave it to 343 Studios for Halo4. What i'm saying is, EA must do the same thing if possible and should take Dragon Age and Mass Effect titles from Bioware and continue to building franchise with some other company. Preferably, Epic Games (creator of Gears of War) or Bungie (Halo)

We all know what was DA:O look like, and now the lead designer left from BW.
Then DA2 failure. Screwed the franchise, without lead designer of DAO we can be pretty sure that DA3 will be the same.

ME1-ME2 were pretty good games.
Drew left BioWare
Then ME3 ending failure. Screwed the franchise and majority dont want to play ME series anymore because they know whatever they did in previous games, it didnt matter.

So, before another failures, EA must be involved.

Did you understand now ??

Agreed with revo76...

This is not only Bioware, it's EA/Bioware...

They're both in the same boat, they should share the hits!

JPR out!

DA:O - now that game had an ending that blew me away. The Sacrifice ending and Alistar's ending speech.

That's an end I had expected for Mass Effect 3

This, really.
The sacrifice ending was pure jewel. I usually don't like that my character die/sacrifices at the end but I really loved the sacrifice ending in DAO.
ME3 just lacks the proper closer of the story. Some kind of epilogue that reflects player's all major choices should have been there.

Didn't Drew move to Austin to work on TOR before ME2? I remember reading his blog.

he left during the production of ME2 as i recall. Technically he was working when ME2 was creating, then he left in the middle of it.

Like i said that's how i remember his leaving.

It's a real pity we lost this guy as a game dev. Then again, probably a good thing that he quit while he was ahead.

Now he gets WHY we're angry.

ME3 really should've ended a similar way to DA:O, hell, I was EXPECTING it to end in a similar way to DA:O.

Sacrifice unless you do this horrible thing that is utterly horrible and painful to watch if you romanced Alistair (If you are a FC), or Zevran/Leliana (If you are a MC).

Oh Brent, where have you gone? He makes a clear definition that everyone at Bioware and some people should get:
Books have readers, movies have viewers and games have PLAYERS. The game industry is starting to mesh with the movie industry, all right I'm fine with that, but when it starts to add more and more this cinematic appearance at the cost of abandoning the player's part in the game, something is wrong.

Yeah, we don't have enough games in the world that end on a positive note, we need more of those. Oh, wait, that's how most games end.
