Ahh ok, found it. Hey, OP, mind fixing the format? It's very, messy.

Lets not forget the ending was satisfying because you also see how your choices impacted the various races after the battle even if you died.nomoredruggs wrote...

I though people didnt want a happy ending? Now you show your real faces
You clearly don't know the difference between happy and Heroic. In DAO you can sacrifice yourself in the end yet it is stunningly fulfilling and people mourn your loss. You die but you've earned it. Call that "happy" if you want but you clearly miss the point.
Not to mention sacrificing your character in the end was a choice, you could afterall sacrifice Alistair (or Loghain), or none if you took a deal with the devil!
And all those endings had their place in the game!
But seeing is so mainstream. Why be satisfied with concrete closure when you can be hip and obscure and use your imagination to imagine the end of a $240 trilogy?

Ah old school Bioware how I miss thee... Another thing DA:O did even though it still had an ending that rang of tragic heroism was gave an Epilogue. If ME3 had given me that bunch of paragraphs characterizing how my actions shaped the galaxy and what the fate of each of my companions was I think that would have made me accepting of the ending. I wouldn't have minded it they kept their mysteries, their ruined mass relays and their star child. The depth and closure those epilogues added to DA:O was actually astounding and what kind of effort did they take? Probably just some imaginative writers and some extra coding.
How hard would it be for them to give us at least that?
Especially if you romance Alistair and take him with you to the final battle
Exactly! and apart from that possibility I remember reading the reaction of Leiliana to my wardens death and feeling very somber at those implications.

He's absolutely right, and I would assume he's the one to thank for one of the most satisfying endings I've ever played through with Dragon Age: Origins. I'm fairly certain the time I invested in that one game amounted to what I put into the Mass Effect series, and I still smile when I think about how fantastic its conclusion was.
He leaves and suddenly we get Dragon Age 2, that railroads you into a single cliffhanger ending. A cliffhanger!
It is a cliffhanger but at least it's the middle game. You could call the ME3 ending a cliffhanger. A trilogy that ends with a cliffhanger <_<

If your looking to play something just as good as DA:O (better even), give the BG trilogy a go, or if you dont like the old graphics, wait for the new "Enchanced Edition" thats coming out.

For all the spurious arguments against the storytelling that people have made, the truth is that games are a different medium and especially with Bioware games, it is probably not advisable from a design standpoint to not fulfill the audience's desire for an unqualified victory, with accompanying parade. I can handle it when they go in another direction, but it doesn't seem like most can.
I think with the reaction to the DA2 and ME3 endings, Bioware is getting the message. There's still room for art in other parts of the game, but it really looks like a conservative ending is almost mandatory for this kind of experience.
For example, the Kaiden/Ashley choice was a memorable part of ME1. If that was the choice that ended the game, I don't believe it would be recalled as fondly.

Dragon Age Origins had a FANTASTIC ending (multiple might I add), he knows what he's talking about.
I agree. Even if you chose death, you still felt like a hero.

Very true but, to be fair, the DA team have still not confirmed the DA games are part of a trilogy. I think they're looking at it as a series, like The Elder Scrolls.
And yeah, a trilogy that ends with a cliffhanger is...
Ugh. I've been thinking about this too much. xD
