In absolutely no way did I go into ME3 thinking Shep was going to come out alive so a happy ending was never a requirement.

However I did expect SOMETHING I did in at least 1 of the 3 role playing games to have some sort of effect on the ending.

Unlocking the ability to pick from 1 of 3 (almost identical) endings based on some arbitrary army value which is decided by only things you do in the final game was not what anyone expected.

Disappointed I was.

Now that even former BioWare writers are siding with us, BioWare HAS to listen to us, right... right... RIGHT? :crying:

Well - I suspect there's a reason he's former, so ..... odds are against it :D

Ah old school Bioware how I miss thee... Another thing DA:O did even though it still had an ending that rang of tragic heroism was gave an Epilogue. If ME3 had given me that bunch of paragraphs characterizing how my actions shaped the galaxy and what the fate of each of my companions was I think that would have made me accepting of the ending. I wouldn't have minded it they kept their mysteries, their ruined mass relays and their star child. The depth and closure those epilogues added to DA:O was actually astounding and what kind of effort did they take? Probably just some imaginative writers and some extra coding.

How hard would it be for them to give us at least that?

Especially if you romance Alistair and take him with you to the final battle :(

Exactly! and apart from that possibility I remember reading the reaction of Leiliana to my wardens death and feeling very somber at those implications.

Or if you romanced Morrigan. I remember replaying the game just to get the awesome bit of text where it says "One night the Warden felt as if Morrigan was thinking about him over a great distance." It was just a sentence, and it carried weight. I still think about that ending.

Wow no wonder I love DA:O so much this guy knows what he is doing. Is he still working on games somewhere else? I think I want to play whatever he puts out.

Only problem with that is that BioWare now want to do action/hollywood film instead of rpg. Thus making his argument true and irrelevant in many way.

My entire point.

Now let's see IGN, Destructoid and Kotaku attack him.

Seriously DA:O had a nice scene at the end where I killed the Arch Demon and then a few pictures and text... the ending of ME3 was much better then that. I was much more put off from that slideshow and think they should have left it out too.
Both games are brilliant in itself, but the ending isn't that good in DA:O either.

He quit to work on his writing if I'm not mistaken, so good luck with that.

Yeah man, DA:O had a really, really satisfying ending. You had the option of heroic sacrifice, you had the option of a happy parade. Either way, the game felt complete.

Its the same reason why I can keep playing fallout NV since it follows what brent says  its not a bioware game but the ending made me feel dam awesome hell you don't actually even need to fight the final boss in NV plus the game shows you how your choices affected groups, companions and locations.

New Vegas is, in my humble opinion, the best RPG ever made. No other game captures consequences for every little thing you do like that game. It captured what made 1 and 2 classics and brought it today's tech. 3 can suck my balls though ;)

He nailed it. This is the talent that Bioware's lost? Would think they'd have done anything to keep him.

I'll admit I didn't care for slideshow endings like DAO. But as far as impact and general 'feeling' of the ending, DAO is one of bioware's best. It offers a happy ending with some sacrifice, and a good tragic triumphant ending. Everyone, for the most part, felt that the endings fit with the tone of the game.

Well - lets hope they're aware of his blog piece to begin with, but if it conflicts with their opinion they'll just ignore it.

2. End on a positive note. This is really important for video games...life in general is full of s****y stuff happening all the time. When I invest a hundred hours into a game I need to walk away feeling like a hero.

Why wasn't this guy put in charge of ME3???

I'd actually be fairly satisfied with a NV-style denouement for ME3.  Have a narrator or someone describe what happens to the various factions after the defeat of the Reapers, the descriptions reflecting your own decisions.
