It seems many people are experiencing this bug when they talk to Shale at some point in the story after he joins the party: you are transported to somewhere off the map and given an old chat dialoge with Shale in which you can try to use the phrase to wake Shale up or else 'leave Shale alone.' In either case you're stuck in some bizzare place off the map and forced to reload.

After messing with the console I managed to get a work-around that worked for me, let me know if you have success.

You will need access to the command console; if you don't know how to do this, follow the directions found here: http://dragonage.wik...om/wiki/Console (it's rather simple).

Enter the following phrase into the console:

runscript zz_shl_debug

A dialogue will appear.

Choose SET_PLOT_FLAG, then SHL_HAVE_COMMAND_WORD.

You will know you have done this because the option as SHL_HAVE_COMMAND_WORD will disappear after you reset the flag. Leave the other flag alone.

Now exit out of the debug dialogue and talk to Shale. You will be transported to the off-the-map bad place again, this is fine. You should receive the old dialogue option about Shale about joining your party etc etc, run through it just like you did when Shale originally joined your party.

Once this dialogue is over you should get the party selection screen; add Shale to your party and hit 'accept.'

You will still be in the weird off-the-map area, so enter the Shale debug command into the console again (runscript zz_shl_debug). This time select 'Warp to a location,' then select Honnleath. Congrats, you have just escaped the off-the-map pergatory!

You should now be able to chat with Shale without any bugs, pursue Shale's quest, etc, etc.

Worked for me, hopefully this works for you.

Oh, wow, this definitely fixed my problem. Thankyou!
I sort of panicked a little the first time I was transported to the strange place and avoided Shale like the plague afterwards. Great fix.

I think the fix was described earlier here: http://social.biowar...275974/7#329765

But nonetheless a very good thing if Bioware isn't able to do it themselves.

Ah, yeah, it is laid out a little bit there. But only one of the plot flags will correct the issue - if you reset both or the wrong one, you don't get anywhere.

How is it that Bioware STILL hasn't fixed this?!

Starting to lose faith in one of the best gaming companies out there... which isn't good considering I'm dying to play SW:TOR...

This worked great for me. It wasn't sending me to pergatory, just a fixed place on the map where I had last tried talking to Shale, so I skipped the last step (teleporting away) and it was fine.

Damn, not again this kind of time consuming/nerdy stuff... I had faced similar bugs with Neverwinter Nights 2 and I had solved them within the game's console, but you miss all the fun there and do the work of the programmers... I'll wait and hope for an official patch to solve this. I don't want to risk breaking something in the game... What's the point of bying broken add-ons I wonder... Too bad for this excellent game.

Just got the problem myself. funny since its worked absolutley fine before. Ain´t gonna mess with something since I might do more harm than good. Guess ill have to leave shale at the camp.

My Sister concluded long ago I am cursed when it comes to Technology, either that or whatever god of electronics hates me and is having a good laugh. hmpf

[Edit]: Luckily I had an early save that seems to be fine, Now its just hoping it will stay that way..I can live with the minor frustrations of redoing certain points of the main questline

All these problems don't bode well for SW: TOR. Programming errors like these are vastly amplified in a mmorpg.

this fix worked for me, although Shale is stuck with a big arrow pointing at her head all the time

It's really weird...my Shale disappeared after I've already added him to my party, so I used the console to first put him in my current location (the camp), and then followed every step as listed by the OP. I now got Shale back, but instead of crystals, he equips normal warrior armor and weapons! His appearance doesn't change either when he's equipped with armors and stuff. Any help?

Got myself nice and stuck in the Deep Roads after acquiring the quest to bring Shale "home" to Cadash Thaig. Used this fix to get out of it (thank you!) but Cadash Thaig is *still* missing from my map. >.< I've talked to Shale in camp, in the Deep Roads and in the dwarf city. Nada. Any console command that triggers the cutscene and the map placement?
