(For full impact listen to this link as you read: www.youtube.com/watch)

This has been dropped elsewhere but I feel it's too important to be burried under a weight of 100 odd pages:

Below are statements from various sources about Mass Effect 3 in particular the ending, which are simply not true as it stands at the moment. Do I want to be proved wrong? Hell yes! But, these comments should be kept clear:

Official Mass Effect Website
http://masseffect.com/about/story/

“Experience the beginning, middle, and end of an emotional story unlike anyother, where the decisions you make completely shape your experience and outcome.”

Interview with Mac Walters (Lead Writer)
http://popwatch.ew.c...-3-mac-walters/

“[The presence of the Rachni] has huge consequences in Mass Effect 3. Even just in the final battle with the Reapers.”

Interview with Mac Walters (Lead Writer)
http://business.fina...-all-audiences/

“I’m always leery of saying there are 'optimal' endings, because I think one of the things we do try to do is make different endings that are optimal for different people

Interview with Mike Gamble (Associate Producer)
http://www.computera...missing-in-me2/

“And, to be honest, you [the fans] are crafting your Mass Effect story as much as we are anyway.”

Interview with Mike Gamble (Associate Producer)
http://www.360magazi...ferent-endings/

“There are many different endings. We wouldn’t do it any other way. How could you go through all three campaigns playing as your Shepard and then be forced into a bespoke ending that everyone gets? But I can’t say any more than that…”

Interview with Mike Gamble (Associate Producer)
http://www.eurogamer...me-people-angry

“Every decision you've made will impact how things go. The player's also the architect of what happens."

You'll get answers to everything. That was one of the key things. Regardless of how we did everything, we had to say, yes, we're going to providesome answers to these people.”

“Because a lot of these plot threads are concluding and because it's being brought to a finale, since you were a part of architecting how they got to how they were, you will definitely sense how they close was because of the decisions you made and because of the decisions you didn't make”

Interview with Casey Hudson (Director)
http://www.gameinfor...s-effect-3.aspx

“For people who are invested in these characters and the back-story of the universe and everything, all of these things come to a resolution in Mass Effect 3. And they are resolved in a way that's very different based on what you would do in those situations.”

Interview with Casey Hudson (Director)
http://venturebeat.c...fans-interview/

Fans want to make sure that they see things resolved, they want to get some closure, a great ending. I think they’re going to get that.

“Mass Effect 3 is all about answering all the biggest questions in the lore, learning about the mysteries and the Protheans and the Reapers, being able to decide for yourself how all of these things come to an end.

Interviewer: “So are you guys the creators or the stewards of the franchise?”

Hudson: “Um… You know, at this point, I think we’re co-creators with the fans. We use a lot of feedback.”

Interview with Casey Hudson (Director)
http://www.gameinfor...PostPageIndex=2

Interviewer: [Regarding the numerous possible endings of Mass Effect 2] “Is that same type of complexity built into the ending of Mass Effect 3?”

Hudson:“Yeah, and I’d say much more so, because we have the ability to build the endings out in a way that we don’t have to worry about eventually tying them back together somewhere. This story arc is coming to an end with this game. That means the endings can be a lot more different. At this point we’re taking into account so many decisions that you’ve made as a player and reflecting a lot of that stuff. It’s not even in any way like the traditional game endings, where you can say how many endings there are or whether you got ending A, B, or C.....The endings have a lot more sophistication and variety in them.”

“We have a rule in our franchise that there is no canon. You as a player decide what your story is.”

Such a shame this whole deal is turning into. Why oh Why did they choose to ruin the greatest series perhaps of all time?

It does sound like something he would say.

I don't mind that we've seen these statements a bunch of times.  These statements are largely why people are so upset.  My expectations for the ending were based on nothing other than these statements, so I don't think it is asking too much that they clearly follow it.  Not follow it if you interpret it the right way, but clearly do that.  When you say that it'll be more than A/B/C, it should actually be more than that.  When you say that we help write the narrative, we should get that feeling right up to the credits.  It shouldn't stop 5 minutes before.

This for me proves that Bioware is all talk. All to hype the hype further.

Great find. I remember a lot of these articles and interviews. That is why I believed they would not ruin the last game. I guess they took us all for a ride.

Well reading this, actually makes me think that they really have something in mind, I don't believe they would kill off something they've worked so long and hard on and on top off it lie about what will happen to raise anticipation, not to this degree.

I don't use twitter but can't someone copy one or several of these quotes and ask them directly what they have to say about it, and ask in what way they think that the current ending(s?) apply to those statements.

Don't flame and rage, just ask in a polite manner, we need a serious answer.

This is how I feel about the game series at this point:
-Stop Sovereign and the Geth in Mass Effect, check.
-Save your crew in two, make some friends, blow up the collector base, check.
-Cure the genophage in three, check.
-Broker peace between the quarians and the geth, check.
-Suddenly, ten minutes to the end of three none of that matters. NONE of that really played into the ending sequence whatsoever.

To be completely honest in my analysis, these statements are only why the fans are still upset. If the ending had been great and most of the players enjoyed them, most of us probably would have forgiven the developers for not keeping all of their promises.

Alternately, if the developers had kept all their promises, but the ending had just sucked, the discontent would have burned itself out relatively quickly because everyone would recognize that it really was a simple matter of taste, and rather than keeping up the pressure, they would have just stopped playing and moved on. There would still be people saying that BioWare dropped the ball and the endings sucked, but we would not be calling out for DLC to change the ending in the numbers that we are now.

My point is not that it is invalid to cite these lies as part of our grievances, but rather, to remind any developer reading this, that if you're not going to keep your promises, you had better be damn sure that the majority of your fans are going to agree with your change enough not to call you on it. BioWare seems to have made every mistake possible with the ending however, giving a huge portion of their customer base no reason to forgive them.

I LOVE BioWare, they gave us the best Sci Fi Universe, and the second best Fantasy Universe, other than this hickup, they are the MASTERS of story telling! If someone does have Twitter please post them these quotes to recieve answers. But be polite about it, rage just makes you seem petty, quite disapointment and evidence will go a LOT further. Plus it's right, (Paragon) to be polite to the people who have given us such an amazing universe to get lost in.;)

No words can describe how I feel as I read everyone of those statements...

I wonder if Casey & Co. would feel like being slapped in the face as they read them line by line...

My takeaway from reading this thread - don't bother waiting for Casey Hudson & Co. to say anything about ending-fixes. Just wait and see if Bioware actually releases anything.

I'm glad these quotes get brought up again and again, just shows how badly we were misled by what was promised to us, only to have Bioware do the exact opposite and defend it.

This is the main reason why I'm so angry about the ending. When you go on for months, speaking about how your game is going to have a multitude of endings that all depend upon your choices through all three games, and then railroad a "Choose the red, blue, or green door" ending into it, you can't suddenly turn around and ask, "Hey, how come you guys are so angry?"

Can someone turn this into a sticky? Every time someone asks me for proof of what we were promised, I'll direct them to this.
