There was a line in the statement:
" An outpouring of love for Garrus and Tali led to their inclusion as love interests in Mass Effect 2."

Have i missed something in ME2 cause i dont recall i could romance either Tali or Garrus?

My wife's CE copy is being returned to Amazon tomorrow. It's clear that they could care less about their customers. Least one of us can get a refund from this mess.

Oh yes.  The Tali love thing spawned a long and funny thread about what REALLY lay behind the mask.

*Sigh* All that happiness and goodwill shot to hell now...

I'm kind of astonished at peoples' reactions to his statement. It's a press release thing, of course it's going to be vague.

I'll be damned if we aren't the most ungrateful, belligerent fanbase on the planet.

The most ungrateful fanbase that eagerly dropped extra money for day 1 dlc, collector's editions, merchandise and other stuff. I don't really get how you can call the consumer ungrateful when the creator takes a big dump in their hands at the end while you pay for it.

Was it a warm dump?  Steaming?

There you go then.  It could have been worse.  Frozen turds on a cold day dumped in your hand...bad business.

Don't be so ungrateful and entitled.

It is also notable to point out why people play the game.

-Most people such as myself play for escapism. A break from our dismal mundane lives to run through and save (or screw over) a universe. We want to be that hero or anti-hero and see what that did. Giving us the ending that was presented to us took that away from me and many, many others.

It reminded us of what many feel in real life. (depending on the circumstances) That Life sucks, I work my A** off and get underpaid to do so. And that sometimes we feel that we have no hope.

-The end just simply reminded me of that. No escapism for me to go and ponder how my universe might have turned out. I know how it turned out no matter what in the end.

-That was your target audience Bioware. Those who wanted that feel of accomplishment in a time of tough economic situations and whatever other problems we had.

- I bet many could not really afford the game but bought it anyways so they can escape the mundane activity of life and to be able to dream a little. You took that away from us and we may never be able to forgive you for that!

So we designed Mass Effect 3 to be a series of endings to key plots and storylines, each culminating in scenes that show you the consequences of your actions.

I can. You demand satisfaction immediately, you want what you beleive you deserve without any lies or bull**** to weave through, and any response that doesn't explicitly say what you want, you consider a betrayal and a lie.

I'm sorry, but thats f*cking entitlement right there. It's like people standing next to a welfare office complaining that the line is long because they can't get their food stamps. And you wonder why a lot of people are calling you childish...

Look, he makes a PR statement regarding the endings and you want blood for it. why the f*ck should I respect this movement that is going on when its as militant as a Malcolm X rally?

"in a story where you face a hopeless struggle for basic survival"

If I'm reading that correctly the game was predicated on hopelessness? I guess I just completely missed that playing through the games, and by the sounds of it the vast majority did as well. If that was the case then we don't have a fundamental difference of opinion on the ending, but one on an outlook in life.

Our entire existence is characterized and predicated on hope. I mean for Science Fiction nothing stands better than:
"The future's not set. There's no fate but what we make for ourselves."

So in that vein, if that's what the plan was for the game... It it is certainly you guy's game, and I absolutely loved it. But, now I'm just straight up disillusioned with the whole franchise instead of the ending. If I had known that, going in, I probably would have skipped the franchise.

If it was all fait accompli, wow. No words for that right now.

Okay... Um. Okay.

^ That's my response to this statement.

Because IF there is more content coming, it really needs to be AFTER the StarChild ending. Really. Anything before that is moot given the ending - INCLUDING THE PREVIOUS THREE GAMES.

Seriously, not to beat this to death, but that ending isn't really an end. It's either a horrible, screeching halt to the best series ever to get killed by plot shrapnel, or it's the point where Shepard gets up out of the ashes and knuckles down to business.

Sadly, until I know we're going to get something related to the latter, I'm just sitting in this awful 'wait and see' place. I'd really like to get out of this place. It sucks.

Sure do miss the old Bioware... good thing there's skyrim, dark souls, and the witcher 2 sitting on my shelf.

I'll just pretend I didn't spend something like 100 hours on the ME franchise. I've learned my lesson, finally. Ditching EA like a sack of rotten potatoes.

I just can't understand how they could not see how this would turn out, how players would feel and react to this "slap" in the face. How bloody dense are they? I have a feeling a neutron star would get jealous.

PR doesn't work and wont work (and isn't working).  All he need do is give a simple "yes" or "no" to the question of whether or not the end as is will remain the end.  That's it.  Saying "no" would go a LONG way to fixing the damage.  A simple "no".  A simple "yes" would end the torment too (and send many many many people for the exits for good too).  The forums don't need PR and damage control, it's the wrong place for it and falls on deaf ears.  We wont have it.

I live next to a cow farm.  I know the stench of bull****.

Dude Chill out.  You are not making this any better by engaging in the potential start of a flame war.    People are still very upset over the ending and you have to understand that.  Just let it go and eventually everyone will start pushing what they really want instead of venting in the anger stage.  I know I was very militant over this a few days ago after my shock wore off.  Now I am happy to support the movement with a cooler head.

I loved the game! Everything was better, the controls, rpg elements, fighting, epic instances in game. The the last 15 minutes kicked in. Played for the other endings too. Disappointed to get pretty much the same thing. It took away from the pleasure in playing the game and pretty much saying my choices to pull together groups of people to make alliances that didn't really matter and say oh the universe is screwed anyways.

I can see in a way the endings being ok bringing the rating to about 3 out of 5 stars for me but I would of rather have something where the reapers would have been destroyed and the mass relays and everything in the universe going on as normal.

Perhaps I'm just grasping after grasstraws. But maybe he ignored writing about the ending because it'd spoil things for the ones that haven't finished it yet? They want the play to stay indoctrinated a bit longer.

But it's probably only wishful thinking...

If they don't replace that part entirely... or at least alter it enough that you have more options. I kept expecting Shep to tell Glow Boy that we already fixed the problem it keeps talking about. OT: Thanks for the adept videos you made in ME2. They were useful.

No.

Why should I chill out when a bunch of people are out for nothing but to cause a stir?

And this is why I think you are all feeling entitled to specail treatment. It's not even an issue of what is right or legal or good or bad anymore. It's an issue of tact, and it sickens me that this is going on still.

So no, I don't accept that. You tell your movement to shape up, or the bad press will just continue. Thats how this works because stuff like that makes you look bad. The berating, the twitter bombing, the feeble attempts at boycotting. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of people start heckling EA and BioWare at PAX now, just to be d*cks "for the cause."

hold your line elsewhere, or at the very least organize it correctly. I have seen too many movements that have more merit than this one fail for less reasons than above. If this behavior keeps up the movement is over before it begins.

Wellllll...I take issue with the controls.  On a PC the space bar is used for too much.  So much in fact that it often doesn't do what you expect (or need) it to do.  You run for cover but instead of going to cover you jump OVER the cover and right into the enemy or a turret.  You try to roll from one cover to the next but instead just wrap around the corner right into a turret.  You make a run and intend to jump over cover but instead you stick to cover with your back to the pursuing bad guys who proceed to shoot you into hamburger.  Other than that, yeah, all that stuff you mention was better but then ending actually murders the game and the series.
