I've got to say, this PR statement is an absolute disappointment. What Penny Arcade and the New York Times have to say about Mass Effect 3 is absolutely irrelevant. The only, only opinions that should matter are those of the players buying the games. Especially those of us who have been supporting Bioware and the Mass Effect series from the beginning.

Unfortunately, many of those players seem to be very unhappy with the product they've purchased. If only because it is exactly NOT what we were advertised. Mass Effect 3 has been revealed as a massive bait-and-switch on the fans. There is a long list of statements made about ME3 by developers, pre-launch, that have been shown to be inaccurate. In some cases, the truth turned out to be the exact opposite of what we were promised.

Now, I don't necessarily think that the developers were being deliberately deceptive when they made those statements, but it is glaringly obvious that they think too highly of the end-product. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of parts of Mass Effect 3 that I really love. But there are other parts that are an abysmal disappointment, even inferior to the previous games in the series.

The terrible A, B, or C ending is, of course, the most glaring insult. Anyone remember this line from Mr. Hudson: "At this point we’re taking into account so many
decisions that you’ve made as a player and reflecting a lot of that
stuff. It’s not even in any way like the traditional game endings,
where you can say how many endings there are or whether you got
ending A, B, or C.....The endings have a lot more sophistication and
variety in them."

Regrettably, what we did get was exactly that, an A, B, or C ending. Or Blue, Green or Red, if you want to nitpick.

I'm sorry I can't be most positive about this. Even when I absolutely loved playing the game during the Tuchanka, Rannoch, and Thessia portions. At first, I really intended to play through the game a few more times to try out different decisions with different classes. But, like many others, the ending has spoiled that for me. I no longer feel any urge to play the game when I know it ends like that.

I thought he made a well played statement, he wasn't bitter or hostile to the vocal crowd nor did he rag on his team. He did what he could. What else was he honestly supposed to do? Before anyone answers, that was a rhetorical statement. I believe we'll receive something with more closure based on reading between the lines. Why else would he bring up the examples of how our voices mattered? People need to quit demanding heads, become a little more civil with their arguments, and let the rest play out. I wish Bioware the best on these upcoming days as they have many flames to put out. They have been my favorite developer for years and it has been rather sad seeing the recent two years unfold. Maybe it's just the forums, but the memes, the threats, the accusations of bestiality, leaking and hacking into the games constantly, fans telling other fans lies about the game for the trololo, and the bickering has made me slightly ashamed of being associated with the fanbase. I didn't agree with the ending and it left me with much to be desired, so I wouldn't say Bioware is off my radar either. Here's to hoping Bioware can rectify things and work it's magic like always; and if not, we always have other top notch quality developers. Best of luck Bioware, I'm counting on you.

I'm sorry but blue, green, and red endings followed up with a bunch of PR talk just gives me nothing to work with. Fans want more closure in the endings, and without it, I will not be buying any DLC or playing the game anymore.

The amount of wrong in his statement is staggering. 90% of anyone who plays the game is raging at the endings. I barely got through ME1 because it was boring, ME2 twice only because a friend challenged me to try insanity. Guess what, I still ****ing hate this ending. You don't have to be a dedicated fan to realize what kind of a ****stain ending this is.

Trying to wave off complaints as something only insane tali worshipping fans is a dick move. Referencing positive statements won't help you if every other website/poll/forum says your ending is balls out terrible. Eventually, that Forbes website will hit the front page of google.

I fully support a new/expanded ending but these things take time.

AT LEAST wait until PAX for some kind of definitive answer. As for me, I`m glad that he took the time to personally respond,a nd this fact gives me a lot of hope. If absolutely NOTHING was planned, they'd simply say as much.

I agree with a minority, the anger needs to stop and clear level headed-ness needs to begin. All this rage and demands in biowares direction makes everyone seem like demanding children, or frothing animals. Neither a rather flattering look. Also, probably less letters. lol make it short and sweet. peoples attention span is not loong enough to read a zillion letters.

As one of the fans more concerned with fixing the bugs, then fixing the story I hope they jump on those before new ending DLC, but it's nice to know they're listening to the fans disgruntled with the endings... I hope they're listening to the politely worded logical posts and and the three page long rage induced rants.

Also, I hope they look to their Thane fans, not for myself cause I have Garrus as a safety net. but because I truely believe they have been very quiet, sweet and a little led on. They were ready to accept Thane dying, but not the rushed unfeeling way it was handled, I cried for the loss of a loved crew member, not for my Sheps anguish. I kinda felt she didn't care.

@  xiaoassassin

Yah that post right there is 100% what people should stop doing, you are hurting your case. If I were Bioware I wouldn't want to do anything for anyone who spoke to me in such a way. more so after I politley let them all know that they are being heard.Image IPB

A thousand times this.
I was really looking forward to playing through the whole trilogy again, and choosing a completly different morale-stance with Shepard this next time around.  But now I really can't be bothered seeing as though all that work won't amount to anything in the end.   This is where Bioware got it so badly wrong, Its not an art-piece film or book you read the once, Its an RPG and we've participated for five long years.  The current ending completely destroys the player's desire for a trilogy replay.

Hurray, I was firmly in the Acceptance stage, but thanks to this delightful selection of words from Mr. Hudson I am now right back in the anger stage. Time to drink in a manner that would make my ancestor's proud.

I both hate and am amused of this PR mind war for ME3 endings. But things are simpler than that.
Bioware knows very well by now that their ending (which they support up to now) have failed miserably and caused an outrage to their fans, to their customers. Not to "some" but to countless many.

It is much simpler for them to stop this war by accepting their defeat honorably and announce a DLC/patch with a proper ending. They do not need any feedback for this. All they need to know is already written over these boards. These are failed delay tactics.

Instead of this tiring process they should focus fixing the issue. It will save them time and it will give them money. It will re-establish their connection with their fanbase. The more they play PR games the more they lose.

This is the only way for Bioware to win this debacle, they put themselves in.

No, you know what, even that has outstayed its welcome.  Its not intriguing anymore but annoying, because they are just empty cryptic teasers for teasing sakes
Its just spinning spin now.  You are doing it wrong Bioware.

An actual clue, something tangible with truth to it would be refreshing.

Bioware is surely a better calculating machine than most people who bought their product after been allegedly "deceived" by previous unfulfilled promises. I guess time will give them reason, once more. All this ranting only proves the emotional awesomness of the whole series, and I like to think that after the initial deception relating to the "endings", we all start opening doors to help them let the dream go on.

I didn't mind the fact that it was "bitter sweet" and it ended how I thought it would and to be fair I do not think it could have ended any other way and have the same finalization effect that they were going for. That being said I did not like that all of the endings were basically the same you never get to see the effects of the" agonizing decisions Shepard had to make along the way" since all of them were basically interchangeable. In ME 1 and ME 2 there were clear distinct differences between saving the council or not and destroying the collector base or not, here there were no
distinct differences, aside from under a minute of cut scene material. I think the real tragedy is the fact that ME 1, ME 2 and ME 3 up until the last 15 minutes were all so well done and these endings felt tacked on.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.  This constant in-fighting we have going right now is counterproductive - and myself being one of the fans that wish to have the endings expanded/explained, I'm really hoping that as someone else stated, our cause "doesn't finish before it even starts" (quoting loosely of course.  Whoever said that, I think you're correct).

Don't get me wrong, I'm angry with the lack of solid statements from BioWare/CH - but as others have pointed out, it's too early to get anything solid at this point.  I'll hold out hope and I'll hold the line.  That's about as much as I can do at this point.

Thank you BW for what you did accomplish in the game - I just want closure.  That is all.

Blah, pretty much what I expected... On my first play through I interpreted the entire game as the ending with how each race is brought into the final battle was my ending. What ticked me off was that the final seems identical pretty much every way you look at it. And there are MASSIVE plot holes in the ending. Why the hell is Joker (and apparently all my friends) fleeing the battle? And how the hell did Liara abandon me at London? She was in my final party that got Laser beamed of death... Next time I play ME2 Joker is getting taken by the collectors. And Liara is getting dumped asap.

If anything, the ending felt rushed. After hours of perhaps the most brilliant storytelling, music and voice acting ever seen (not only) in games we get a (quite literally) deus ex machina finale. The problem in my opinion is that after such a personal (almost intimate) expereince the game(s) was so far we are presented with three possible outcomes that feel so much impersonal and alienated (and actually differ only slightly).

Even though I have my issues with the ending, I accept that it is the way the creators of this magnus opus wanted it to conclude. I may not like it, but it is someone else's creation I am only allowed to enjoy within its limits. To reshape it at my will would mean to taint it. The "damage" is done and what was seen cannot be unseen. Would you really be satisfied if the ending was rewritten? Would you be able to enjoy it if you knew that the creators were forced to change it to appease you? Is there even a way to change it without it being silly and unnatural?

I enjoyed the ride so far and will remain a fan of Mass Effect in the future. Despite the thing they did to Shepard in the end I do not regret a minute or a penny I spent to experience this wonderful series.

And, just for fun, this made me laugh out loud and pretty much sums up my feelings about the ending:

Joker decided to save his own skin, and should he be found he will be court martialed and jailed most likely.
I'm still not sure how Liara go onto the Normandy, there are no tractor beams, the radio says nobody survived, and yet magically they're on the Normandy and flying through a mass relay corridor, which makes no sense really.

Plot holes... Here's one of mine...

The main reason for Shepard to go down on Earth is because the Citadel's arms are closed, hence the only way in is via the "Beam". So far, so good. But as soon as Shepard gets the Citadel's arm's to open, how come no one else from the vast Armada lying around tried to get inside to "secure" the final procedure?

Also, if a weapon can travel through the beam, why not medi-gel? He would have needed some. Badly.
