"a story where you face a hopeless struggle for basic survival" ??? Hopeless struggle - how could I have missed this in the PR campaign for the game. Take back earth didn´t really convey this to me. My bad obviously, I should never have bought the game at all. And then I wouldn´t have any reason to complain about the bad ending(s) full of plotholes where non of my choices seemed to matter. I think ME3 was a great game but with an ending that made me wish I never played it.

This statement by you Casey is only going to make things worse, we've all waited for over a week now for a direct clarification of our issue with the endings. Enough is enough, my faith in BioWare has been shaken, please respond to us without vague statements and give direct info on our input. Or im another of the many dedicated fans let down and will not be purchasing future installments by your company.

I have no problem with the ending - this is how they want their story to end, with a sacrifice. I get that. I DO however, understand why so many people are upset. They were given basically the same ending for every final choice. It's justifiable that they'd feel cheated in a game that focuses on your choices leading to different end results. It's not unreasonable for people to be disappointed that no matter what they did, the result was the same when they were given the impression that wasn't going to be the case.

Still, a story has to have an ending in order for new stories to begin. Not all endings are ones we agree with - I'm still annoyed at the ending for the Stand (or the Lord of the Rings - I wanted Frodo to stay) but that's how it ended, I have to accept it. The point is, you enjoyed the ride. Sure the climax may have been underwhelming in the number of possible outcomes but that doesn't make the one we were given any less valid or the road there pointless.

I don't presume to know how anyone else's story should end, I would never say your telling is wrong if that's how you wish it to be. I do hope, for the sake of those who get so invested in the stories you've written, that in the future, BioWare, you don't remind us so sharply that it's a story you're telling and that we're only along for the ride. While some of us are fine with that, taking it like a good book we've read, it is clear others are less likely to appreciate it. I hope the end of Shepard's tale is not the end of the franchise and that moving forward, we're introduced to new heroes, new characters and new challenges.

It'll just be difficult playing any Mass Effect game that takes place before these endings--if they stay as they are. Personally, I can't imagine (and won't) play any DLC that takes place prior to the ending. Why bother doing any mission when it doesn't change the inevitable fate of the galaxy exploding in red/blue/or green.

On another note, I thought Mr. Hudson's response was hopeful. At the very least, he's addressing the upset fans more directly, and also states how fan reaction has shaped DLC in the past. 98% of ME3 was amazing! It's just the last five minutes that ruin the freedom of choice the series is founded upon.

Casey's answer is like a fist in my face. Morover the face importing device isn't corrected yet... I wish I never played to this game after all. The ending ruins all the serie because all you have done during 100H+ playthrough are annihilated (save the Geths for what??? being destroyed 1 week later haha).
And Bioware answers to nothing with a very long post.

This simplified version is exactly what I've understand...

Mr Hudson explicitly states that the (rather loud) feedback from fans not happy with the ending(s) is just as valid as those who praise it, and people here still blow helium puffery?

890 000 copies of ME 3 were sold. Between 30 000 and 40 000 have signed an official petition of contention.

That means that no matter how much you dislike the outcomes of the story, you can not lay any claim that you speak for the entire consumer base.

What a load of corporate bull. I've been defending the majority of the ending, but that is the biggest non-response "everybody and their grandma likes it but we care about the 3 basement dwelling nerds that don't so we'll make paid DLC for them" ever.

So where are they, then? 'cause I haven't seen anybody, save the review sites, saying how amazing EVERY-PART-INCLUDING-ENDING- was. I've seen lots and lots of articles and posts on how the ending sucked, and you can take the people who don't voice how much they enjoyed the game out of the equation, as they're an unknown quanitity.

Still, the 'you haven't seen the last of Commander Shepard' is heartening.

That could just mean you'll get DLC missions set during ME3, before the ending kicks in.

Seriously, who would spend money on that, knowing you'd still get the ending that you're so unhappy with?   I can't believe they haven't worked out that fans would feel like that?

Then again, Mr Hudson has forgotten that ME IS a video game, not an artwork.  Reality check required!

I can't believe how unreasonable alot of the people are here on this thread; just be thankful that Casey's bothered to take the time out and reassure the fans that the Mass Effect universe is the result of the collaboration between the development team and the fans. Obviously, its PR suicide to come right out and promise anything to be done or acknowledge the validity of negative feelings surrounding the endings.

Just be patient and see what happens.... it's only been about 2 weeks after the official launch date and that is way too short a time to expect an immediate plan of action to be dished out by the executive producer. Alot more analysis needs to be done by the team, so of course Casey can't say anything else of substance... he's doing what he's can at the moment.

Mr. Hudson, that was not an answer and neither was it a discussion.
Why can't you just give us a straight answer, say things as they are and you might have a few more disappointed fans depending on the response but you won't have this ridiculous amount of speculation and anger in the community.

I imagine by now you have probably read every single article and thread detailing the various problems with the ending, so just pick one and answer a few key issues.

We just want an ending that makes sense within the Mass Effect universe and reflects (at least to some degree) the choices we made during this epic journey. To clarify, that does not mean a happy ending, it can be as bittersweet as you want it to be, just as long as it's logical and provides some semblance of closure.

Ever heard of statistics? They never ask 100 million people. They do it with even less. Mostly they ask 1000 random people to make their statistics. And these are as close as you can get.

Yes given these responses now are not random  but there are alot of them and most importantly mostly from people who loved this series, who bought these books, who bought every DLC, figures etc.

Hell  this "minority" or you do you call it. already donated 55k $ to charity because of this ending.  At this point its unacceptable what Bioware and Hudson are doing.

A poll on another website shows 86% hated the endings. http://www.computera...ioware-blow-it/

A poll on BSN shows 91% hated the endings. http://social.biowar...06/polls/28989/

Now apply the sample size of either polls to total copies sold.

After reading the statement, I think that pretty much cinches a Broken Steel type add on that changes the ending. Unfortunately for Bioware, I don't think anyone will be happy with it anyway.

11 hrs since I left, and the ****estorm hasnt died down yet.

I hope some future marketing and PR students are really glued to this as an example of "how not to communicate with your targetgroup".

Seriously. The whole message is a more wordfull repetition of what Chris stated not 24 hrs ago and it is still insulting both our intelligence and our loyalty to this gaming studio.

You have reached the point of no return Bioware. Either release some substancial and credible information or watch this crap snowball even further. Youre not putting out the flames here. You are actively fanning them. And if you cant see that then you deserve to reap what you have sown.

Is this a good place to respond to the ending of the game?  I'm not a regular forum goer; I just read Hudson's response to the controversy over at Game Informer, and thought I'd drop by and give my two cents.  If this is not where it should be posted, if a moderator could kindly repost it where it should go, I would be humbly indebted.  In any case, massive SPOILERS follow:

(for clarity's sake, I should state that I recieved what has colloquially become known as the 'green' ending first, and have since replayed my save to witness 'red' and 'blue)

I deeply enjoyed the game, just as I deeply enjoyed one and two, minor nitpicking aside.  Certain moments - Thane's passing springs to mind - had a great impact on me, and rank among some of my favorite moments in video game history.  I was not okay with the ending.

Let me explain:  obviously, it's your game, you can end it however you would like.  Similarly, I, as an audience member, can critique it.  So let me begin my critique with a question of tone.  Mass Effect, for me (I'm twenty-eight years old, by the way, to give this some context) was the video game Star Wars.  That is absolutely not meant as a slight; I was raised on Star Wars, I would easily consider them my favorite movies - I even occassionally endure the prequels, simply because I love Star Wars.  No video game had yet to capture that massive galaxy, filled with wonder, daring, and excitement feeling that Star Wars captured for me - until Mass Effect.  Weightly moral decisions, thrilling space battles, deep emotional connections - Mass Effect was, in the very best sense of the word, the video game Star Wars.  Unfortunately, you then gave me an ending more suited for the video game 2001: A Space Odyssey.  Not to say that video games don't have any right to have their own 2001 - Mass Effect just wasn't it.  You guys came up with a great villain, in the Reapers, by coming up with a great hook into Singularity Theory.  And that was very smart, and you ran with, and points to you.  But that's not what your games were about, in my opinion.  They were about a universe filled with people - many people I came to care about deeply - that just happened to be greatly effected by Singularity Theory.

Which leads me to my other problem: the destruction of the Mass Relays.  Now, this is one of those things I could nitpick (everyone in a system without an arable planet's gonna starve!!!! etc), but that's not the complaint I'm here to make.  What it comes down to is this: I play a Paragon Shepard, and have through all three games.  The ending I feel like my Shepard deserves - regardless of whether or not he survives - is not to have brought about the destruction of galactic civilization.  If that's one option?  Cool, that's an awesome thing to throw in there, in a Snake Plissken kind of way.  But when every option you leave me makes me destroy the Mass Relays, which in turn isolates everyone in the galaxy from each other, which in turn - to me, at least - is effectively an end to the very galactic civilization(s) I spent the last three games protecting?  It, honestly, feels like the exact same decision The Catalyst offers Shepard - which Shepard then rejects: forcing the universe to change, drastically, rather than heal.

In conclusion - all the great moments of pathos, all the sadness, all the suffering, all the pain - I wanted it to be for more than that.  I wanted - after making such hard choices, after limping my way onto the Citadel, after being forced to sacrifice my own life - I wanted to feel like I had won.  I wanted to make it mean something.  That is not the ending I got.

Thank you for reading,
Drew Williams

I totally agree with you! It's great he's taken the time to give us information, I just really hope that the DLC continues from the end because thats the main reason I don't like the ending, im not raedy to say goodbye to commander shepard, I really want to be reunited with my team! So please make the DLC continue from the ending, tell us what happens next and give us a great send off for Commander Shepard, that would be great, and I would be so content!
