Damnit, don't fly off the handle just hold the line. We got them to acknowledge something. After the weeks of nothing that's major progress. Don't screw it up now in a rage filled tantrum that gives credence to the detractors arguments.

Hudson is neither missing the point or dodging the question. He's addressed our contentions very much how he and the ME3 Team addressed the ending; with emptiness.

1. Our Choices Don't Matter

"So we designed Mass Effect 3 to be a series of endings to key plots and storylines, each culminating in scenes that show you the consequences of your actions.  You then carry the knowledge of these consequences with you as you complete the final moments of your journey."

Remember all those sidequests and events leading to Starchild? Dem's yer choices.

2. Sad Ending

"Still, we wanted to give players the chance to experience an inspiring and uplifting ending; in a story where you face a hopeless struggle for basic survival, we see the final moments and imagery as offering victory and hope in the context of sacrifice and reflection."

The ending wasn't sad.

3. Moar Closure

"But we also recognize that some of our most passionate fans needed more closure, more answers, and more time to say goodbye to their stories—and these comments are equally valid."

Saying goodbye to all your teammates was that closure.

4. We don't listen to our fans

"Player feedback such as this has always been an essential ingredient in the development of the series.....n outpouring of love for Garrus and Tali led to their inclusion as love interests in Mass Effect 2.  A request for deeper RPG systems led to key design changes in Mass Effect 3.  Your feedback has always mattered."

See? Proof we listened to you.

In terms of the Mass Effect 3 Ending, there were 3 outcomes to this: A Fix it Ending, A Synthesis of Explanation and additional DLC Ending, or a Deal with it Ending.

This sorta feels like a Deal With It post...

We always
intended that the scale of the conflict and the underlying theme of
sacrifice would lead to a bittersweet ending—to do otherwise would
betray the agonizing decisions Shepard had to make along the way.
Still, we wanted to give players the chance to experience an inspiring
and uplifting ending; in a story where you face a hopeless struggle for
basic survival, we see the final moments and imagery as offering victory
and hope in the context of sacrifice and reflection.

ITT: The ending we got is the ending they wanted
ITT: We think this stuff is deep

The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress is deep, THIS is not deep.

"Somebody once said that a politician is a person who can talk for hours and never actually say anything. If that's true, Hideo Kojima Casey Hudson could run for government and be emperor of the universe by mid-afternoon." -Yahtzee

I for one do not welcome our new overlord.

We are getting closer. It obviously isn't the direct answer we've been waiting for, but it is acknowledgement at least. Don't lose hope people, this is a positive sign

My initial reaction: That's it, I'm done. Goodbye Bioware, I've had enough of this rollercoaster ride that was supposed to be fun and entertaining, I want to get off of it.

You told us nothing, lots of words with nothing said.

(we'll see how this sinks in after some sleep but for now I'm done - with these forums, with this company, with this series) This was, I believe, the final nail in the coffin.

Guys, come on.

You wanted a response, it wasn't EXACTLY what you wanted, but you got it.

It's no wonder they are so unwilling to say anything definite here. Chill out, it's progress, keep being respectful and putting on the pressure.

When a response is not a response, it will get the same response as no response.

Well, he didn't crush our hopes under his boot heel...that's a plus.

I honestly think this is the most encouraging response that we could have realistically expected at this point in time.  Some positive things I take away from this:

(a) He acknowledges that fans have had a hand in creating the series (contrary to what IGN, Destructoid, etc. have stated).

(B) He doesn't claim that we all just want a happy ending - he mentions "closure", "answers", and "more time to say
goodbye", all things which I think show at least some understanding of why the endings were unsatisfying to us.

Sure, it's PR speak, and he doesn't tell us exactly what we want to hear, but this statement could have been a lot worse.  He could have easily been a lot more defensive of Bioware's "artistic vision" and he also could have flat out told us that they aren't going to make any new ending content.

So chillax, grab a beer, and keep on holdin that line.

Yeah hold the line people the fact that he has come out and said anything prooves we are having an impact but if we want to win we can't use any Bioware or Ea products until they come out and give us a date for new ending DLC.  the fact that so many statment are being made prooves they are worried.  Don't let this movement fizzle out and become a joke.  Send you letters to bioware tomorrow.

Hold the line as long as it takes.

This announcement means absolutely nothing.

We ALREADY KNEW that there was going to be more DLC, because the little text popup at the end told us this. Thank you for reassuring us of things we ALREADY KNEW. Why don't you tell us something new, like what exactly were you guys thinking with this ending?

Well....Hmm. I think Mr. Hudson is in a bit of a rock and a hard place here. The day one DLC was completed before release of the game.

Likely, they already had the 1st post release DLC mapped out and work well under way when the full implications of their design decisions came to fruition.

Everyone makes a bad call once in a while. Sometimes it's a big one. He's in the unenviable position of not being able to anti-up to it even if he wanted to, and will have to defend it to his grave most likely.

No he has to make the hard call. Does he 180 the work in progress DLC? Or do they go ahead with the plan for now and work on the rest later?

For most of us-there is only one right answer. To the people who have to pay for all that crap-it is another. Unfortunately, it is lost on the bean counters that it is 'us' who ultimately pay for that work. Hopefully Bioware can stress this fact to the EA overlords.

And trust me, as much as Bioware touts that they are more or less independent of EA as far as creative license goes-this has gotten the brass's attention.

The problem here people, is that you all have too much passion!!

"Some" fans have too much passion, he said it, thats him adressing the ending, if you all simply didnt care, like him, then right now youd be happy. XD

We are pleased to hear you are considering this.

We do regret that without a concrete promise specifically of DLC for the ending we can't bring ourselves to purchase any of the other DLC that you will be releasing until then.  I'm sure you can understand why we are a bit wary of over interpretting what you've said to us.

Wow, so much smoke and mirrors you'd think he's an avatar of Tezcatlipoca...

We already knew we were getting DLC and would be seeing more Shepard. That doesn't say *anything* about the endings.

*sigh* Bioware, you can't keep us following this carrot forever. Eventually, some of us *are* going to give up, but it won't be the sort of giving up that leaves us ever playing your games again. We'll just chalk you up to another giant fallen in the industry.

HAHHAHAH! Oh. I laughed at that. I guess that wouldn't be funny to anyone else who wasn't well versed in Aztec mythology. Thanks for the chuckle.

Come on, we said we wanted an official statement. Here one is.

He doesn't commit to a DLC that would expand on the ending, but he does acknowledge that the ending was less that satisfactory to some players. He also says that constructive criticism is something they listen and respond to. Then he gives examples of times they have done exactly that.

I feel that if people, like myself, who are very interested in additional content that would add to the ending in ways that we would find meaningful (egs. a clearer description of Reaper motivation, an option to defy the godboy, a clearer show of what happened to the crew and why, an option to survive and see that crew again) express our wishes respectfully that he is open to suggestions at this point. He has not committed to following any of them. But, it is possible that they would do a DLC if there is suffucient demand for it. Why not? Money is money, and happy fans cough it up hand over fist.

I'm willing to trust that Mr. Hudson may in fact develop a DLC that provides more "closure." (A subtle word-choice that does not admit mistake but does acknowledge less that glowing reception.)

Personally, I hope the option for a gray ending, where you survive and are reunited with your crew but at some significant cost is added.

I'd also love to headshot (or at least argue against) the prejudiced starkid...or recruit Marauder Shields...but those can stay as pipe dreams, lol.

Right. I think I'm done trying to sympathize with this community. Ever since finishing the game, you're all like "Please please PLEASE just give us something. Anything. Even a hint that you know what's going on and are willing to work with us. That's all we ask."

Then you get exactly that, and the first and only reaction is complete and utter hostility. You people make me sick.

I think you're missing the point of the frustration, while yes it is good he has replied, he has replied by saying nothing beyond "we had a great time making the game, you've mostly had a great time playing it but we understand there are concerns. Oh there will also be DLC at some point". None of this is really anything we didn't already know and it doesnt address any of the concerns which we would like responses about.

I just want to highlight a few things he says not like anybody will read my post but here goes anyway

He says he considers the game a collaboration between US and THEM. meaning our opinions are valid. He even goes as far as to say "your opinions are valid" Do you know what this means? This means that while he may not agree with our opinion, and i am SURE he doesn't, he recognizes it has solid reasoning behind it.

ALL OF YOU should be willing to do the same for him. At least if you actually want to be constructive and hopeful instead of bitter and mad.

He also says content is coming, THIS YEAR, and that they will be listening to fans in order to determine what to develop. which means that if the ending issue really is as big a deal as it was in the case of Fallout 3, there very well could be alternate ending DLC coming.

No he didn't promise anything, but it's still REALLY EARLY. Guys the fact that he responded at all when the game is still in the early stages of being sold is proof they take this seriously. Stop the hating! The hating is getting ridiculous. It really is.
