this is the first post i have ever made on this forum.

i would like to address this quote from Casey Hudson's recent letter to the community:

"...we designed Mass Effect 3 to be a series of endings to key plots and
storylines, each culminating in scenes that show you the consequences of
your actions."

this is beyond hilarious. can anyone explain to me how the ending culminated in scenes that showed us the consequences of our actions? the only "culmination" i see is me realizing how terrible your company truely is.

i should have known after dragon age 2, so i have only myself to blame. it's funny because i was so previously indoctrinated into your company that i bought into the "indoctrination theory". i really wanted to believe.

i will no longer purchase bioware products, and wish to say this, "shame on you all".

That depends? Did you pay attention during your playthroughs? If so you would have known that many plotholes from ME1 and 2 were closed during your gameplay. Choices you made in ME3 were instantly reflected upon.  You do realize you do not need everything to be in the ending to close plotholes right?

I mean if the ending was something like "oh they survived, live happily ever after and got babies and ****" well...I dont need to see that.

are you kidding? the plotholes that were filled were little side ditties that didn't matter. the main bulk of my complaint regards the ending, an ending that didn't regard anything that occured in the game. i don't know how else to explain this to you.

furthermore, i edited my post. this forum moves fast. i, for the record, do not wish for a forced happy ending. i want a real ending in the traditional manner. you should read more western literature and you might understand what i mean.

I know exactly what you mean and I feel a lot of answers have been giving. The only real issues that were open in ME1 and 2 were regarding side missions or "side ditties" as you call it (lol).  The main issue from Me2 was Why the reapers attacked. We got the answer to that, though vague as it is.

Also again, an ending does not have to reflect everything that happened or every choice you made in the game. Hell even books don't need it and mostly don't do it either. (after all you are implying I don't read much or don't know much regarding it, altough I am more of the fantasy genre myself)

Quarian and geth united? You have your answer if you talk to tali on your ship, you really do not need to see a future ending or narrative regarding this when you finish the game as it adds nothing.

The Gillian island / World crash landing...Alright I give yout hat one..it bugs me too.
Your two squad mates that were with you when you assaulted the beam elevator into the citadel? They are dead. (You clearly hear the soldier / Captain / wahtever he is, say that None survived. However just you, barely and anderson, barely, did.) ((** Site note : I believe the ending should have reflected this. Mainly with the people getting of the ship, sometimes being one of the squad mates with you. It did not make sense**))

and there is mroe closure. I am not going to name it all.

We are pleased you got the message.
To share again what "some" of us think :
we don't like the ending. At all. It's frankly depressing and incoherent.
We won't consider any DLC until this is getting fixed. Make something that actually works, and an happy ending with LI and crew won't be bad after what we had to see. Thanks.

its equally funny that he notes the news articles bashing us with insults for resisting the ending but says nothing about the articles (forbes for one) making much better arguments. Some of our more passionate fans ..... no sir, your wrong, how about, almost all of our fans???

This.

It's good to have some feedback, but it still beats around the bush. No surprise for a big company, but I think BioWare needs to take a solid stance - a yes or no to fixing the ending - sooner than later.

Ya, a hint.  I am tired of hints and vague promises.  How come  Bioware can't just flat out tell me if I am wasting my time waiting for another ending?

When this proportion of the fan base is annoyed at the ending, it's not just that it's controversial or bold, it's that it's poor. The die-hard fans may not be entirely representative of the wider ME-buying community, but there will be a reasonably strong correlation. Sadly I am pretty certain that the deeply flawed conclusion will never be fixed, but we can but hope...

You know praising IGN and Penny Arcade that are lambasting the Take Back movement is also not good...... Unbelievable.
He could have picked any two reviews...why them?

Simple. Both are very well known and if asked most gamers would name either one of those two first.

And dont forget Allers ...
IGN is embedded in the game, On the Noramandy.

So praising them, and recieving good marks from them,  makes sense in this regard.

Yes. The uplifting ending. "Then Commander Shepard said a tearful goodbye to everybody she loved before her final fight. She fought the hardest battle of her life to get to the beam, only to be blasted nearly to death. She enters the Citadel broken and bleeding, is forced to kill her own commanding officer, then gives in to the suggestions of some random spacechild VI and kills everyone in the galaxy including herself without a question. Oh, and for some reason, her crew left without her and crash-landed on a random planet for no reason. Now let's tell a story about the time she liberated Omega."

Hahahaha awesome.

Used to work in PR.

Can't believe he cited love for his game by Penny Arcade and the loving NYT before addressing his fanbase and customers. Then, when he does, he uses marginalizing language; "some of our most dedicated..."

Whew. The air up there must be a bit thin.

yep it all PR spin put out to stall us and make us think that we can buy their stuff again and stop warning people thart they will not like the ending.  Don't fall for it.  He had to say something to try and calm us down this means he bosses are putting pressure on him.

Hold the line as long as it takes people.

This essentially says nothing.

Not the last we'll hear of Shepard says nothing as well, it doesn't even specify what point in time of Sheps life it will be.

I just don't get it. ME3 was way too good 99% of the time to excuse this. How can it be possible?

"A request for deeper RPG systems led to key design changes in Mass Effect 3."

".....like removing RPG elements from Mass Effect's system... and limiting dialogue choice into binary decisions.. if you ever get a decision, which is rare..."

Such amazing listeners Bioware has.. *sigh*

This. Casey, we knew you wanted more of our money. But you now have to EARN IT. This isn't ME2 where you have legions of fans who will throw money to continue the adventure. Without a fix to the ending, there is no adventure. Just a slow and POINTLESS march to Shepard's and the rest of the galaxy's death.

Here's to hoping that you'll come out with a better comment about how you're going to fix the mess YOU created.

This.

@JessicaMerizan main thing I want to hear about is whyd my squad abandon me :( ? Theres no Shepard without Vakarian. Best friends to the end

@Jump919 that's likely something that wouldn't be addressed in a blog post. We're listening to your feedback for content- you deserve it :)

Holy s***....... its really happening

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Don't read too much into stuff like this from a community manager.  I don't doubt that there's discussion taking place about all of this right now, and that Jessica has been clued in on...but if it doesn't pan out, she's there to take the fall.  Thus is why you'll never see big name Bioware folks come in here and say ANYTHING that promising.

Get excited if you see someone a little higher up the ladder say something like that.  As of now, I can guarantee you a decision hasn't been made on what's going on with this PR storm.

Way to curbstomp my hopes and dreams :(

You are right though.  I guess I just wanted to believe so badly....

To me this non-answer just feels like being put on hold with a call center.

"Your call is important to us, please stay on the line and we'll be with you shortly."

I've got a sneaking suspicion we're going to be on hold for a while only to get an answer that really doesn't help.

Remember everyone.  We haven't reached the finish line yet.  It's a marathon not a sprint.

Do not give in to false adulation so that your hopes can fall later and cause you to surrender your post.

Do not give in to feats of rage that only helps marginalize your stature.

Turn that adulation, turn that rage inward to determination.

Not one verbal hand grenade will be thrown.  Not one piece of DLC will be purcashsed until we have our true answer.

*ahem line holding and all that chaps*

Why is this causing people to lose hope? I don't understand!?! I'm encouraged by this message!

What more did you want him to say? He says they are making more content. He says he is going to include fan feedback in the development of the DLC for the game. He does not say anything, AT ALL, that implies that they won't do an ending. He admits the ending is an issue. He says they are listening. He says he considers us part authors of the game.

A lot of people have been painting him as egotistical or greedy or both. But to me this is a pretty reasonable thing he has posted here. I think if you take issue with the post, it is you who is being unreasonable for the most part. Maybe I'm wrong. But I think the hostility here is being shown BY the community TO the studio and not the other way around.
