Fighting your own supporters doesn't seem the smartest thing to do, BioWare.

Everytime you treat us as "insane cryers" you're digging your own grave.

While the response is disappointing to those who were holding out for some sort of already-existing ending to be released now that the game is out globally, there really isn't much more in the way of information that could be presented at this point.

Clearly, they delivered the ending they intended - the fact that a large fraction (possibly the majority, but it's hard to truly know for sure) of their fans are so utterly disappointed by it clearly isn't something they expected.

How that could be so is another question entirely - I find it difficult to conceive that the development team that hit so many letter-perfect notes in the rest of the game (including several beautiful moments of "bittersweet" sacrifice) could go so awry in the end. But that aside, there was clearly no plan in place to "fix" endings they felt were not broken.

So, after the game released and the reactions came pouring in as folks finished it, they had to decide what was going on. Was it was just a backlash at the series being over, or the lack of a "happy ending" or the feelings of a small fraction of their fans? A week isn't really a long time to take to determine that, however long it feels to those of us bitterly disappointed by the endings.

Having apparently decided that perhaps something ought to be done, they now have to figure out what they'd like to do as well as what they can do, given the game as it is on the millions of discs out there, and how long it might take/how much it might cost (them and/or us). None of that will be quick.

In addition, I think they want to be very careful not to release something slipshod that will only make things worse.

So all in all, I think it's about the best that could be hoped for. That being said, I won't be pre-ordering Bioware games going forward - they've lost the benefit of the doubt for me that they will produce a complete game that I'll enjoy. I also won't be purchasing additional ME3 content/merchandise until and unless they come up with a solution. I'll play the 90%+ of the game I enjoy, and stop after the speech to the squad in London. If I've got to make up my own interpretation of the endings, then that's where I'll start imagining.

Am I the only one taking this statement as a win?

I didn't expect anyone in any official capacity to come out and say "Gee, we sure screwed the pooch on the ending!" Particularly just one day after it was released in a major market like Japan. Anyone expecting such has... well... less than a firm grip on reality.

But Hudson did, however, bring up that they included Garrus and Tali as romances in ME2 and brought back some small measure of RPG elements into ME3.

Those two issues were matches.

This is an ever-loving bonfire.

If they did work on those, they damn sure will work on this.

So I take it as a victory. A small and theoretical one, but a victory nonetheless.

It is.  Wheeling out the Project Director to even mention something like the ending means they're feeling the pressure.  They aren't cracking yet, but they're trying to squash this fast.  Show them how hard that will be.  Hold the line.

This is a pretty standard PR message. Nothing condemning nothing confirming. Just trying to make us a bit more compliant. and the part about "over the course of the year" I understand that to make an endings where our grievances are addressed would take time. But this is just a bit too much time.

Why do I get the feeling he's talking to us with such arrogance?

Well we are just a handful of "passionate" (i.e. irrational) fans after all.

Why does passionate equal irrational?

It shouldn't, normally.
That is just how I feel from reading his statement. I feel like his talk about a group of passionate fans is essentially PR speak for relegating us into the vocal, irrational minority.

If I'm misreading his comments, then I sincerely apologize.

Is this really all we get in terms of a response? No one here cares if there will be DLC, we already know that. We want to know if you'll consider adding new endings, how is that not obvious enough? I want a yes or no, not a "you'll see what we do throughout the year". What an empty "announcement".

I couldn't agree more.  I just want them to put me out of my misery one way or the other.  And if they think I'm spending another dime on the franchise unless they do something about the endings, they're as crazy as the StarKid's logic.

It's legit.

That might be, but its still not really clear  but I know how the gaming industry works too. It's not always possible to make things clear straight away, only to nudge and hint in the right direction by whats not being said more then what is. Still even with that in mind this could still mean any number of things which means we are all still totally clouded with mystery.

Finally, a definite *yes* to Marauder Shields Squadmate/LI DLC pack. History will look fondly on what has been accomplished this day.

Judging by Jessica's tweet it would seem day 1 dlc was just the tip of the iceberg. I can already seeing this becoming a new trend to put up an ending that isn't complete only to release dlc that fills up what the ending should've been to begin with.

Hollywood has already gotten in the habbit of "the sequel, part 2." Twilight. Harry Potter. This ship has sailed. Now give me an ending.

wrong examples. I dont know about Twilight and can care less about it, but Harry Potter was done in 2 parts because since the last book had so many contents they had to break it down to 2 movies. And you know what? a buncha stuff was left out. movie analogy is not exactly the best example to use.

I made it to the end of the thread (well, by the time this goes up I'm sure there will be another page or two).

I think I need another shot of whiskey. This post was exactly what I feared we'd get--noncommittal public relations vacuousness. Bioware's games have been a huge source of inspiration and joy in my life, which hasn't exactly been stellar for the last few years.

And Mass Effect 3 ruined all of that.

I tried to remain hopeful, but there's really no hope when we can't even get a straight answer from the executive producer.

Guys, calm down at least a little.

Bioware will try to fix it. They don't often behave humble on the outside. But they always try to improve. The challenge before us is not to shame them. It's to help them understand WHAT they need to try for. Help them understand what they did wrong so they can fix it.

They know exactly what they did wrong by this time. There are numerous articles and hundreds if not thousands of posts detailing exactly what is wrong. There's no way he hasn't at least a couple of them plus the satement makes it clear the endings are what was intended. So no indoctrination.

Fixed.

Does he realize that it's not just about closure? The ending doesn't even make any sense for God's sake! I appreciate that he bothered to respond but unfortunately it doesn't help. The "ending" is still an insult.

Here's a good question. They're obviously not working on the DLC we want and it may possibly never exist. If it does, I imagine even if they started on it right now in earnest it would take...three months? Minimum? More realistically six?

I'm asking because it seems like a good time to hawk(e) my CE and pick up a used non-CE for cheap later if and when anything is actually fixed.

If this is true, all i can say is: ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!.

Still wont buy DLCs until i really see those "more to come" things. Could also just be the already guessed MP DLC and Take Back Omega stuff which i really don't care about at all.
I want content that explains the end, give a closure to it and even more important: tells me what the hell is going on in the galaxy right AFTER all those relays explode and why i have to anihilate all forms of synthetic life just to get rid of the reapers!

Casey it's great that you wanted a bittersweet ending, but this isn't about what you want. In your game of choice, our decisions ultimately shape the end we come to. If I have literally done everything possible to achieve every positive outcome and relationship in this series, I do not want a bitter ending the likes of everyone else. I expect closure, and I expect reward for my actions.
To say what you said just basically tells me you don't care about my decisions, and you'd rather substitute your own. That isn't right.
