Fully tank-specced Sentinel is awesome.

All defensive bonuses in Tech armour. Same with Fitness. Fortification or Defensive Matrix as bonus power with max damage resistance taken.

Don't bother with power cooldowns. take as much weapon damage and passive defense as you can. Add an N7 Crusader & Chakram Launcher or Revenant, and you got yourself a walking tank.

Really fun on single player IMHO.

How do you evolve the other powers? Especially grenades, since those aren't affected by cooldowns.
Which armor do you use?

I use Damage and radius with Lift Grenades and recharge speed with all other powers. Wearing the full Kassa Fabrications set which I swap for Hahne-Kedar, with Delumcore Overlay.

Might I add that Defense Matrix is hugely recommended over Fortification because it recharges your shields when purged, effectively doubling your durability. I like to call my tank build the Remember Immunity? Gold Standard Sentinel. Lol.

This sounds fun, might have to be my next playthrough. My Turian Sentinel on Multiplayer is fully specced for damage resistance and shield/health, no points in warp, and overload only ever used as an 'oh sh--' crowd control button. I never detonate the armour because it's... well... completely stupid. Add a Falcon grenade launcher (I find this to be completely awesome with a scope) and what you have is a living tank with its own turret capable of wiping out hordes of goons at a time.

First of all, I didn't think the armor powers stacked. You're saying they do?

Mainly I'm interested in how well it works on insanity? Usually on insanity you stay alive by not getting hit or by using shield rechargers like Charge. They tend to deal so much damage that damage reduction can never quite be powerful enough.

Try it with DR-specced Reave. You're potentially looking at 70-80% damage reduction there with Tech Armor.

are you saying that you can have tech armor and defensive matrix on at the same time?
and how is this on insanity?

edit: aparantly they can be run at the same time. hoses your recharge something fierce, but the point is to use guns and 'nades with powers only sparingly.

VERY interesting build. starting up an insanity playthrough with it now

another possibility, but the two armors together give you an always on 70% dmg reduction and instand 50% shield replenish. you would need viable targets for reave. although reave is kinda hot with the 3m aoe evolution

I am trying this, 40% from tech armor, 30% from fortification/defense matrix, 20% for 30s after killing with heavy melee (in fitness), and if i recall there is an intel choice upgrade for 5%, that puts you at 95% dmg reduction LOL.

I don't think that's how it works though. Instead of adding up together I think all incoming damage gets reduced by x% and then THAT amount of damage gets reduced by y% and so on. Tech Armor stacked with Defense Matrix and a heavy melee kill with the appropriate Fitness upgrade was definitely noticeable even on Insanity but I was still taking way more than just 10% damage lol.

I was loving this build but I still think I have an easier time playing my Engineer when it comes to CQC builds. Having flamethrower turrets and rocket drones cover your ass is preferable to any amount of damage reduction. I'm gonna have to give my Sentinel another go though, AND try a CQC Infiltrator with Defense Matrix too.

I haven't tried them to see if they stack. I'm gonna roll as a Sentinel for my second run through and check that out for sure.

No, they definitely do stack, I just don't think it's as simple as the damage reduction percentages all being added together. But I can say for certain thatchers a noticeable difference in the amount of damage I receive when I just have Tech Armor active and when I have it AND Defense Matrix both active.

Just gave it a quick try and as NSA said there is a noticeable difference, just gave the initial earth level a try on an import. My vanguard could spend about 1-2 seconds popping up from cover shooting cannibals on insanity, until shields were gone and I would drop back to let them recharge.
The tank sentinel rarely had to duck behind cover at all, the shields would last about 6-9 seconds depending on how many cannibals were out.
I can only imagine how well it would of been if I had focused fitness on shields + recharge, went shield + recharge armor and had the +15% recharge from def matrix. I could see the slightest pause in taking damage starting a good shield recharge.

Highly doubtful that damage reduction bonuses are additive. More likely those bonuses add up to around 65% damage reduction. The tradeoff for this is that for 25% more damage reduction you're giving up the ability to chain stun groups, start/close biotic detonations, and CC groups via Cryoblast with fairly low cooldowns.

I don't question that this build can complete insanity, it'll just take 5 hours longer than better builds.

One Issue that I've been having is absolutely pathetic power cooldowns with this build, in addition to having no ammo power. That really gimps your damage potential.

This is really going to be felt in the later stages of the game, like london, where you face 3 brutes or 3 banshees in a row. That's gonna be a real problem lol.

I'm currently playing a Vanguard, full melee specced, with Wraith and Paladin. Wearing full Serice council gear, and I'm making everything look like a joke. Just on Normal difficulty atm.

Dunno how this build will work in the later areas, but let's see.

IMHO Sentinel isn't viable as a full-melee build. The last melee skill in fitness should only be taken as an oh-**** button, to quickly gain damage-resist when cornered by husks etc. It's more of a weapon-power class than melee. Seems like I was also wrong about ignoring power cooldowns. Better to hae 1 or 2 weapons, an Assault  Rifle/Shotgun + Pistol/SMG combo. Cooldowns are quite important as powers make quite a bit of difference for this clas.

Or just wear a set of the Rosenkov Materials lol. But that will be gimping other better armor that you can wear.

That's how my Sentinel is built too (Tech Armor + Defense Matrix). I carry Claymore, Black Widow and Falcon. It's ridiculous.
