Umm...the ending isn't bittersweet. It's just bitter. There is not a single thing uplifting about the end of the game. At least with Mordin, Thane, and Miranda, they die for a purpose. Yeah, your sad they die but there is at least one outcome where they died for a purpose and achieved it in their death. Shepard can save earth but strands the rest of the galaxy wherever they happen to end up (too bad for some organics who will starve).
