Great job guys. 500+ signatures.

If you are someone that hasn't already signed, take the time to read the OP and sign if you agree.

Also give the occasional 'bump' to the thread so that it doesn't get pushed back far away and all these signatures won't go to waste without someone in Bioware or Casey Hudson himself seeing it.

I will edit the OP to include that too.

I 100% agree with the OP. Would like to request something specific though - let us build Tali a house on Ranoch and give those Liara guys some blue children.

Mass Effect 3 fails as a narrative in that it does not give closure to many important questions regarding Commander Shephard. For a story supposed to conclude the journey of Commander Shephard, it didn't even make it clear if he/she survived. That I believe constitutes a failure rather than a feature of mass effect 3.

It was 100% clear from my perspective that Shepard dies if you choose synthesis or controlling the reapers, because the Catalyst explains this. I imagine if you choose to destroy the reapers then Shepard lives.

Can you list the "important questions" that are left unanswered? The ending seemed to tie up all the loose ends IMO.

So you might still be asking, what exactly is the problem with the ending then? The answer is coherency. The ending does not agree with what had taken place or had been revealed in prior games or even Mass Effect 3 it-self. The evidence for the lack of coherency can be seen by simply visiting the 'indoctrination theory' threads on this forum it-self. Here you will find fans presenting all the inconsistencies of the ending and then rationalizing it all in the form of an indoctrination/hallucination.

To give you one good example of incoherency, the squadmates that come with you in the final battle, magically appear on boad the Normandy during the ending. You might be saying, 'well they boarded the Normandy after you got beamed up'. But if they indeed did regain consciousness after you got beamed up, why did they not follow you? Or why did they not wait for you or join the fight with the rest of the ground forces? Unless we perform mental gymnastics, these sort of narrative points in the ending are hard to understand. That doesn't mean that Mass Effect 3 ending is complex. It simply means that it fails as a narrative due to elements that show incoherency.

This is such a minor detail - there are any number of ways the squad members could have gotten on board the Normandy. Is this the main reason why the ending seemed incoherent to you?

This is why most fans have come to 'hate' the ending.

Perhaps you mean "most fans who are complaining about it on the forum"?  Personally I enjoyed the synthesis ending.
