I abhor the current end to ME3. But there is so much ME3 does right. So my suggestion is take the part that does not feel like the game and put as much time and effort into that as you did with all the rest of the story.

Parts of ME3 I love:
Ending of Quarian/Geth war
Legion becoming a fuller richer character
Seeing beginning of Q/G conflict
Female Krogan
Mordin in love
Mordin's death
Ability to stab Mordin in the back.
Joker EDI love story.
Tali Garrus love story.
Thresher Maw reaper takedown.
Art and culture for Krogan beyond just war.
Jack
Anderson and Kahlee
Anderson dying
TIM shooting himself in the head
The final run to the beam
The final talking with most of your crew
Nods to earlier games (Joker asking whether Liara still embraces eternity.)

Things I still want:
To see a female Turian
A better ending
To think where possible there is a Sheperd kid

I've read somewhere else on here that certain dialogue between crew members, specifically Tali and Garrus, and engineers Donnelly and Daniels, only can be heard if you're friends with Ashley and that's really sad IMO since for some people (like me) she just won't be there at all.

I still believe in the indoctrination theory. If it's true, the writers of this game are geniuses ! (managed to fool / indoctrinate thousands of fans :P)

But apart from that;
I was a bit disappointed in the lack of depth for the new team members.
You could have done sooo much more with a character like Javik.
Also, Edi's personality and growth could have been fleshed out some more.
Not to mention James is actually just "around".

What would have been nice was an extra "loyalty" mission like quest for each (or just the new) team members.
I heard the Mass Effect movie would be about James' fight against the Collectors, which is nice...
But why wait until after everybody finished the game, to introduce him to us ?

Some team members in ME2 I found really unlike-able until I got to know them in their respective loyalty missions. (yes, I'm talking about Jack, mainly :> )
But I found Mordin's mission really good. Discovering that his view on life isn't just calculations and logic, but that he values all living things too!

Just an example of a "loyalty" mission:
Javik could visit his home planet and he would comment on how it has changed in 50.000 years.
You could help him clear his birth town of Reapers and along the way give flashbacks about his youth while you go along.
At the end you could encourage him to leave the past for what it was and focus on the present (renegade)
Or tell him to hold on to the memories, remind him what we are all fighting for. (paragon)

In Edi's case you could come up with a story about her questioning what it takes to be alive or have feelings. She does ask you sometimes in the game already, but its not really deep enough (in my opinion)

I found out I was mostly sticking with the old acquaintances as team mates... shame...kinda :)

Leading up to the ending:

When making the push toward the beam if you have a high EMS(6500-7000+ and galactic readiness(95-100%) then ships/war assets will assist you by distracting Harbinger so that you and your team(maybe even some soldiers) make it into the beam unscathed(Shepard could order them to split up and look for Anderson/ tend wounded soldiers)

5500-6499 EMS and 80-94% GR Shepard(unscathed) and team makes it into the beam but one team mate is injured and the other stays behind to take care of them.

5000-5499 EMS 70-79% GR Shepard orders team to get the Normandy. Both survive.

4000-5000 EMS 60-70% GR Shepard orders team to go Normandy. One dies. A little help from Warr assets

4000- EMS 50-60% GR Team dies. Shepard is injured but not the extent in the normal endings, nio help ftrom war asssets

3000-4000 EMS Team die and Shepard is critically injured)

Illusive Man confrontation:

Passing the renegade/paragon checks and/or high paragon/reneagde reputation results in resisting shooting Anderson.
Anderson being able to live if you don't shoot him.
If Anderson lives he goes up the magic elevator thing with you

The Catalyst:

First off, keep the original ending but make it one of the possible endings to get(including the Normandy crash also an explanation of why the Normandy is fleeing Earth would be nice)

Give Shepard the option to refuse the three choices and report admiral Hackett to "take our chances" and take on the reapers using the fleets/war assets that have been collected. depending on how high your GR and EMS are that would determine who wins.
6500-7000+ then the reapers lose and the fleet takes some to minimal losses
5500-6499 the reapers lose but half of the fleet is destroyed. The Normandy doesn't get destroyed
5000-5499 the reapers lose but half of the fleet is destroyed including the Normandy
-5000 The reapers win and destroy the fleet. Shepards kills him/herself after being overcome with guilt and grief of making a bad call.

Try to convince the Catalyst that synthetics and organics can co-exist using Rannoch as an example(if you got the Quarians and Geth to cooperate) using paragon or renegade reputation and/or speech checks. If this succeeds then

Paragon:
Shepard convinces the Catalyst to destroy itself and the Reapers.

Renegade:
The the Catalyst calls off the reapers saying something like if the Geth turn on synthetics or organics create more AI/synthetics then they will come back and finnish what they started.

If Anderson survives the Option for him to take the choices that the Catalyst suggests
If Shepard/Anderson uses The Crucible then an option for the mass relays and/or Citadel to remain intact and not get destoryed based on high your EMS is.
When it comes to the synthesis/control ending give the option for Anderson to volunteer to jump in to beam/control the reapers(if he survives)
Destroy doesn't kill off all synthetics/EDI if your EMS is high or if you have all/most war assets that you have pertaining excatly to the crucible part of the menu that shows your TMS/EMS and GR.
Choosing Anderson to take the destroy ending and he gives you time to get off the Citadel and warn everyone else.

What i'd like to see as Closure(either slides and voice over like FONV or just slides DAO):

A funeral is held to Shepard or Anderson depending on who chooses to use the Crucible. London for Anderson. Earth for Earthborn, sole survivor, ruthless and warhero, Mindoir for colonist and Normandy for Spacer with the inclusion of Hannah Shepard. No funeral for either if Shepard or Anderson(if he lives) convinced the Catalyst to stop the reapers or orders Hackett to attack the reapers without using the crucible.

You can choose what Shepard does after the war with the reapers something like
Carry on as a Soldier/Spectre
Retire with LI
Become the new Human councilor
Accept/refuse promotion to Fleet Admiral- Hackett retires if accepted.
Reastablish and take control of Cerberus.

What happens to relations between the races in regards to the choices you made. What Shepard chooses to do after the reaper war could affect what happens(if he/she survives)

What happens to your crew.

What happens between Shepard and LI(if both are still alive).

Very good and reasonable proposal I think

I feel that no matter what happens, we need closure. IF the mass relays are destroyed, how does the universe rebuild? we want to know that. I don't wanna see the mass relays destroyed, there should be an ending where they survive WITHOUT THE REAPERS HARVESTING THE KNOWN UNIVERSE. I also wanna see shepard and the squad survive, along with the important leaders of other species, INCLUDING THE GETH.

I personally think the indoctrination theory would be awesome, shepard not only defies the reapers, but defeats indoctrination.

Bioware did the tough part in creating an emotionally investing story that draws you in and doesn't let go (until the end of mass effect 3, where it kicks you in the liver) I believe that they can still create an interesting ending

I've already sent BioWare an e-mail about this, so I'll just reiterate my bullet points here:
  • Give us a real, meaningful choice. Give our Shepards the option to refuse to give in to Starchild's tautological propositions and fallacious argument from authority. Rather than simply cave to the demands of an entity that is, for all we know, a manifestation of Harbinger and not a contingency program VI implanted in the Citadel itself, Shepard should be able to say "****** off!" and exhort the fleets to fight on. One of the War Assets you can acquire in the game already is a plug-in that essentially enables the Crucible to act as a GPS (Galactic Positioning System) for every Reaper—let's use that!
  • Give us a proper send-off. Shepard and Co., assuming that the player worked their arse off and got all the War Assets and played enough multiplayer to get their Effective Military Strength status up to, say, 90% (not full readiness because we don't want to put off too many people), should be able to beat the Reapers and then have a nice Return of the Jedi-style ending celebration. Whether or not it is interactive is up to you, devs, but it isn't absolutely necessary (it could simply be based on whether or not Shep is Paragon or Renegade overall)
  • Give us a proper epilogue. You did the post-campaign celebration with Dragon Age: Origins, with the memorial service if the Warden sacrifices him/herself (mine always did) or a meeting with the new ruler if the Warden survived, and it was fit for purpose. And afterward, you explained what happened to our party members with very satisfying textboxes over well-done background images, which varied depending on certain choices we made. Again, that was fit for purpose and there's no reason why they couldn't work for Mass Effect 3.
  • Sandbox mode after the credits! If we won, that is...
  • Give us the option to lose. This was something that was touted in the marketing blitzkreig starting at least from the last E3 event, and yet is strangely absent. If we chose to refuse and didn't have enough War Assets and/or EMS, make it so that the Reapers do what they ostensibly do best: reap our cycle and begin anew. This could result in nasty, painful (but deserved) cutscenes where the allied fleets are massacred, that would then cut to some alien
being uncovering one of Liara's time capsules and opening it, starting off with Liara's introductory statement before fading to black and rolling the credits.
After all, this isn't just the end of a game. It's the end of a trilogy. Imagine if J. K. Rowling had ended The Deathly Hallows just as Harry and Voldemort cast their spells?

I would like to see the remnants of the fleet rebuilding the earth and a new Mass relay from all the info Shepard got them in building the Crucible. I would like to see Tali building her house, with a picture of the rock sitting on her window looking out over the vista she picked. I would like to see Shepard with his/her kids in the future. I would like to see all the regulars find happy endings or at least a chance for a future. I would like to see anything but the poorly written ending (yes it was just one ending).

thank you bioware and co. for taking what the fans say serously, least I'm hoping u do. been a fan since the first time a played ME and regret not being able to obtain collector editions for ME and ME2. I'll do my best to not summon the giant wall of text.

rpg
1. I'm love the rpg in the ME universe, its what got me hooked on the first addition. In ME3 there seemed to be to many autoconvo's. Nothing wrong with them but it took away from me controling what shephard said to his crew or to random people he ran across. love the idea that the crews armor gave them different stat bonuses, that was a brillint idea, though the weapons costimization seemed a bit shallow. Deffently would be nice to see more then just 5 changes, that make a bigger impact on the weapons stats. also would be nice if the upgrade wherent tied into the mods. have the weapon skins seperate would be better.

choices in ME,ME2
Not sure about the rest but in ME i let the rachni live, killed kaidon, saved the council, saved wrex, amongst other things. in ME2 all my crew lived even the dlc characters, blew up the base, and the ship staff lived, didnt kill the heratics. In ME3 i noticed small chages from the dissions i made. the choices i did during tali'vor and legions missions had an impact on the battle of rannok. there was a small mission with grunt with the rachni, and of cause the council still being them. wrex and eve on thier planet to cure the geonophage was another amazing mission that showed what i did in ME, and ME2 was taken into consideration. what got me was of cause the ending. not sure about others but ME2 left u with a pretty big dission. destroy the base or save the base? pretty sure most people where thinking on how it would impact ME3, i know i was. But it didnt seem to matter to much on wither it was saved or destroyed. there could deffently be something added on that front. Now back to the end, though out the ME universe I've been preparing for a major battle against the reapers, though ME3 i gather all the forces the galaxy can muster to take back earth. but once i got there, even though the fleet cming out of the relay jump was an epic sight it seemed lacking. there was no terminus system fleet, geth fleet, the Stg wherent there. once on the ground all i saw was some krogan, mostly humans and a terrain from now and a again. be nice to see the geth primes i got on the battle field, the rachni could have played a bigger part in this battle, along with the blood pack and the eclipse. there wasnt even a mech on my side that i saw. showing that the assest i spent 30 hours trying to get in the battle would be nice.

tali'vor.
I'm sorry but I'm a huge tali fan ever since ME and was estatic when she became a love interest in ME2. but the picture of her face, come on. bioware has one of the best artist design teams i've seen in gameing. prove just look at the universe in mass effect, or star wars:kotor. a photoshop picture doesnt do tali justice and it doesnt do the artist team justice, let alone the fans of tali. having a thought out design for her would be nice but i dont expect it. I'm asking or think its a good idea to take the moment and make her showing her face for the first time into a greater moment then just a picture on a bedstand. the moment on rannok would be perfect. when she takes her mask off, maybe with a tear in her eye to show her saddness when her race gets killed off by the geth and she commits suicide, and happyness when the quirens retake thier homeworld. bring life to her face instead of a still picture.

the ending.
you knew it was coming, the whole reason for fans of the s-rated triligy to take up arms and "hold the line" for an ending that does justice to the fans and to bioware as a whole. i was thinking, run the final battle like ME2 suicide mission. that was the most thought out ending to any game i have ever seen and clearly showed that everything i did in ME2 ment something, it had value. lets do that with ME3 ending lets give what u did value and not in a number system that is the EMS, though that can be part of it, along with the GaW readiness. this is a chance to pull on all the resources the player gt through the game. make the ending in a three to four stage proccess. first part is gaining a foot hold on eaths surface. i guess at this point u want to use the mercs from the terminus system, elcor, krogan, and rachni, along with the geth collusis. player choses to send each race to a different key location to secure it. based on EMS shows if they fail or not. use ur crew to lead them or help bunker the foward bases down. past discions can effect if they fail or not. after step one goes to step 2 after some clip scence or text tell u what happened. 2 pushing foward. use the stealth teams like the stg and the geth hunters to go around the enemy, take out key forces to make it easier for ur forces to move foward, if u got kasumi she can help. have some defence troops like jacks student helping out along with jack and the asaire. step 3 killing th destoyer. i didnt have to much issues with this realy, but once again a miss chance to show and use ur reasorces. after that comes step 4, the dash to the light transporter. the assests gained for all the fleets should be able to dictate wiether or not the reapers land on earth or not. if ur fleet assest is to low they land and shephard takes a lazer to the knee cap. if its high they are delied but still get to earth. just not on time to stop shephard. have a mad dash of all races getting to the light not just humans. if the reapers are delied send in some reaper forces like haviester and brutes to slow ur team down. that would be another moment to have what unit to go where. send the remaining krogans afer the incomeing brute, geth primes at banshees and the asari after the harviesters with the rachni. oce in the citadel u have to fight ur way to the consule in a hopeless battle. have shepherd sacrifise himself to save his team thats with him. then pick up from there. get rid of the god-child, he just makes the reapers seem like tools. harbinger was the main villian for the first 2 games. addign a new main villain in the last minutes of the game just doesnt sit right, theres not back story on him, hes just there. by all means having a boss fight with a senthec harbinger in the citadel makes more sence. plus in my opion i say get rid of the super weapon, just make it a weapon that weakens the reapers so the battle field is fare. this way we can have DLC that shows us retaking other planets. plus having an ening where shepard lives and has beach front property with tali, drink a cold one with garrus in the backyrd over looking scorched reaper scaps would be nice for those that spent the time in the game to get it.

Regarding the whole "we want a happy ending" vs "Don't change anything, I'm perfectly fine with a bittersweet ending" thing:

The more I think about it, I don't think the current ending(s) is particularly bittersweet, it's really more just abrupt, disjointed, feels incomplete. Feels unsatisfying. It leaves more questions, and not in a good way. It doesn't give enough room for proper interpretation as it shows and says a lot of things that can no longer be unseen. Things I feel should have been left out.

Bioware beautifully brought more depth to Shepard in 3. It was still your Shepard, but this Shepard could now display genuine concern, genuine anguish, genuine guilt and doubt. It was amazing, I very rarely see that handled so well in videogames. He was your Shepard, but he was more a person. He was human. And that is central to the themes and values of this wonderful scifi saga.

A happy, triumphant ending would always be bittersweet because of the journey we've taken to reach it. So many sacrifices. So much hardship. So many dear friends lost. Entire cultures destroyed. It's heartbreaking.

The wall of names on the Normandy is one of Mass Effect 3's many beautiful touches, and a very strong reminder of this. But it's also what would make it so poignant. It was not in vain. You (both the player and Shepard) would finally know if you did the right thing. If what you did was worth it.

I don't want only Anderson to have the privilege, I want to be able to tell my Shepard he did good. That I'm proud of him.

The parts I really want to be better is of course the ending, it is way to confusing and it does not fit the rest of the series, suddently Shepard just bows down to an ultimatum some entity gives him, or make the indoctrination theory stand as cannon and continue from there with a fitting ending. Just make something that ends this brilliant series with some real closure. As of now it is an ending that ruins the whole series and keeps me from enjoying the series anymore. The endings have nothing to do with all the choices I have made, also it makes all the effort and trouble Shepard goes through seem like it was pointless, I am not asking for a completly happy ending, but what is given is just not acceptable for such an amazing trilogy. Look at the Lord of the Rings trilogy, now those movies has closure. And this trilogy is much longer but with an ending that is short, confusing and does not tie up loose ends.

And another part that really disappointed me is the part where Tali removes her mask on the home planet, why on earth could you not make a face for her to show us, it was the most perfect moment to do it and would have been a real reward for the players who made that ending come true. Instead I have heard that you made some horrible photoshop of some stock photos of some model in the romance scene for Tali, that is just lazy, and you missed a point to really make that scene where she takes of her mask on her home planet very, very powerfull.
As some have stated, the artists working for Bioware is one of the best in the world, the art book that came with the collectors edition was breathtaking and I will always tresure it. I beg you to remake the scene she takes her mask of with a patch, just a short clip of Tali's face while she smiles would be perfect.

If these things where to be fixed by Bioware, I would be overjoyed, as this series would become my favorite Game trilogy of all time, and ME3 would probably even be the best game I have ever played.

But with these two flaws, the part with Tali could have been so amazing that I would have had chills down my spine, I was cheering when she took of the mask because I expected to finally see how she looked like and more importantly how the Quarians look like. The human curiosity in me is just not sated. Also the ending (or endings, I watched them all) just left me feeling hollow and just ruined the whole series as when I replay the game I will always know that no matter what I do, the galaxy is in some way completly screwed.

 Hi there,

Having now completed ME3 twice I think I am ready to give my feedback. First and foremost I would like to say that overall ME3 is a great game, but no matter how I look at it, the ending is soul crushing, and I don't just mean because it is bleak.

I would like an ending redo, or more specifically, an alternative path to the ending. There area few who like the original ending, so the obvious solution is to introduce DLC that creates a divergence, a new catalyst if you will. I wasn't a fan of the whole 'star child' and 'Reaper explanation' but I don't want to stop someone else having that as their ending if they choose to.

My divergence ending would give you an unexpected advantage over the reapers, perhaps a renegade Reaper, a barrier scrambler or something along those lines. i'm notgoing to say word for word what you should have as I know that's something your developers would most like to keep control of themselves but basically something other than the catalyst. this ending, would allow for choices that give a different outcome, but which do not require you years of coding to try and make every possible choice from three games count. Your previous game choices will affect your EMS, as they should, but itsill be the decisions and choices in these last few moments that would define the outcome of the game, but different outcomes.

I would personallyl ike to see the divergence ending include the following:
  • A proper showdown with TIM
  • A fight with Harbinger
  • A chance for a happy ending
  • A chance for an 'evil' ending
  • A conclusion that lets you know how the crew and people you met live out their days.
Sadly typing this onmy iPad means I can't actually see what I am typing now, so apologies if this is incomprehensible! O

Some other things I would like are:
Actual Multiplayer missions, not just wave attacks
Less focus on the readiness

Also, after Shep breaks the indoctrination attempt and wakes up back on earth, use this flowchart for the rest. It's quite beautifully done.

I like it.  Except for what happens with Anderson (concerning if you save him and the Starchild) very few areas for vocals.  You can put new animation and  fight vocals some of the dropped vocals still on the disk.  It's the Epilogue that would take up the most time and money.

I personally don't like the idea of the Starchild (and believe in the indoctrination theory), but you've made it work in the story.

Going to laugh if Bioware give in and change the ending. Particularly at the ensuing crap storm as the ‘movement’ disintegrates into a thousand little fights about which criteria the new ending does or does not met. What if there is a new ending, but it’s still sad? Sure, 70% of the moaners will be thrilled, but the 30% who wanted the happy ending will go totally mental.

Personally, I think the ending was handled appallingly, but I like the idea of the technological base everyone has been relying on being pulled out from under them.
The new universe would be one where species have to figure out space travel on their own without relays. It means Mass Effect 4 can essentially have a whole new galaxy without changing the setting. It was well played.

I thought that the writing and development that followed being hit by the Reaper beam was poorly done. The plot holes that the ending introduces, the extremely limited amount of choice offered to the player, and how those choices are influenced by previous decisions all need to be taken into account. On top of that the textures and animations at the end were very poorly done. ID theory would immediately take care of all these issues by passing the end off as a dream.

As far as a real ending is concerned, I think it's really quite simple. Follow up on the story. How the writers would choose to do that is up to them. I don't think that introducing new plot lines at the very end of the game will make sense. The Crucible should help defeat the Reapers, no star god or space magic needed, and all the plot elements are in place to introduce something that fits the lore and themes of the series (e.g. anti-reaper virus, dark energy). Whether or not that means that the Reapers are defeated should be determined by your previous actions. The aftermath of using the Crucible should be fleshed out--the fate of each crew member, past and present, and how the many different war assets contributed to the final fight. For some things that occur in the aftermath, such as the fate of Rannoch, Tuchanka, Illium, Earth, the rachni--I'd like to know how they came out of the fight, and how they rebuilt after it. This does fall partly into the fates of the crew members, but some of the long term consequences of your decisions could be dealt with by scrolling text, still images, in-game cut-scenes, etc. As far as the history/nature of the Reapers, this should remain consistent with the current lore. The explanation that Reapers kill organics to prevent them from creating synthetics that would (possibly) wipe out all organics is hard to swallow at face value. No explanation would be preferable to this one--after all, as Sovereign stated "I am beyond your comprehension".

Well, what do write here. I will write what comes to my mind.

Good things in Mass Effect 3

- The intercrew dialogue was very well done. A hung over Ashley or drunk Tali were hilarious.

- The customization of weapons and the upgrades. You really neglected this in ME2 and I was happy that it was back in ME3

- The same goes for the talents. The system doesn't have the depth of Mass Effect 1, but was a lot better than ME2.

- Some story quests like the attack on the Citadel. Masterfully done.

Changes that should be made

- The journal need to be fixed. Maybe it's a bug, but sometimes it doesn't update when you gather something via Planet scanning. This is especially annoying when you get something, turn your console off, start the game next day and you don't know if you completet the mission or not.

- In Multiplayer, more than once it happened that I wanted to revive a downed teammate, but instead of reviving, my character went into cover. This can be very annoying.

And the ending.

First of all, I do not want a happy ending where everybody acts like nothing ever happened. That is unrealistic and unnecessary.
I admire you for trying to elevate Mass Effect from your standard shooter story to something that makes you think. Unfortunately, that backfired. You violated your own lore in the process and there just too many plotholes. I know, that you wanted it to be remembered and leave room so people can speculate.

A big problem is, you promised 16 very different endings and that all choices would affect it. That is simply not the case. Period.
It is one ending that differs in small aspects. When someone does all of the sidequests and plays multiplayer to import a character and get his readiness up, he should be rewarded with a good ending, an ending that makes you feel you accomplished something. The current endings all make me feel like the Reapers have one and that none of my decisions mattered. This was always one of the strongest aspects in Mass Effect, that everything you did mattered. Shows in an epilogue our consequences. I cured the genophage and maybe the Krogans once again started a rebellion. I brokered a peace treaty between Quarians and Geth. Will this peace last?
Say in ME1 i chose the all-human council. I don't kniw if in ME3 it is still an all-human council. If so, show that after the war the former council races maybe rise up against humans.

To sum it up: make an ending where Shepard makes the ultimate sacrifice. But also make one where he and his crew survive the battle and Shepard is reunited with his/her LI. I heard that the little blue children are a popular demand. I would also like that very much.

Maybe try reading some of the fan endings on here, to see how creative they have been. I don't think I have read one that was worse than the ones we currently have - crazy when you think about it.

The fact is, you will never please everyone with the endings. But the reason the uproar has been so big is because what we did get was EXACTLY what we were told we would not get.

Where is the choice? It is a lazy, jumbled mess.

And whilst we are on the subject, here is an idea I came up with to maybe fix it. Not perfect, as I have tried to keep some aspects to make it do-able, aspects I would drop if ME3 was starting from scratch (Crucible, Catalyst, Higher Entity thing refered to by the downed Reaper on the Geth homeworld and by the Prothean VI).

AND BE WARNED - THIS IS A LONG READ. Maybe should have shortened it! lol

Basically, somewhere towards the beginning of the game, a sequence needs to happen – either conversation with a Reaper (Harbinger), or something else, where we are told that something is above the Reapers. Whether it is hinted at, or outright said, but it needs to happen early – maybe on the Mars mission. This way the entity that is alluded to by the downed Reaper on the Quarian home world, and by the Prothean AI, is given a bit more weight. Now we have the rest of the game to weigh up what this thing is. As it stands, the sudden introduction to the Starchild is too far out of left field to swallow.

After defeating Kai Leng and speaking to the VI again, we learn that the Catalyst to firing up the weapon is a Reaper Core (from one of the largest Reapers – not the skeletal structure, but the power source). This is what is needed to give the weapon enough energy to fire and also so it is able to target the Reapers. When it does, the Crucible sends out a signal (via the Citadel, which it needs to be fixed to) and through all the mass relays, and it disabled and destroys the Reapers. Now, if the team left the Reaper Core intact in ME2, this is still in the Cerberus base and can be used. If not, they need find one.

If they have the core from the Cebrus base, they can get it fixed to the Crucible and head straight to earth. If not EDI reports the most likely way to get a Reaper core is from an already destroyed Reaper in one of the battles, which initiates an extra mission. This takes us back to the Turian home world where the Kurogan and Turian are in full battle. The mission involves finding a reaper that has been damaged / destroyed on the outskirts of the battle, and extracting the core. But during the mission something goes wrong, and in order to get the core, a squad mate is sacrificed and you have to pick who. (Similar to the first games moment which was one of the high points of the series.) However, the upside to doing this mission, is that you get to see the species that this Reaper was made from, from a previous cycle, and learn it was this particular species that was the first to begin work on the Crucible, and see how they came to realise that using the mass relays and the Citadel against the reapers was the answer. We also see a little bit of their destruction (through cut scenes or something, not sure how it is implemented). The squad are also able to fit the Normandy with Reaper weaponry from the destroyed Reaper.
So if you saved the Reaper Core in ME2, you don’t lose a squad mate. If you didn’t, you lose a squad mate, but find out more of the back story and gain Reaper weaponry for the Normandy.

The squad gets to London and makes the push over No Man’s Land but when Harbinger blocks the path, there is no way though. If you have the Reaper weaponry fitted to the Normandy, it swoops into the earth’s atmosphere and helps destroy Harbinger, along with an aerial assault from some of the alliance forces from space (similar to the Quarian mission). If you don’t, it takes more effort from the fleet to destroy the Reaper, and because of this more of the ships fighting above Earth are lost, including Hackett’s (so he dies), and the Ascension.

When Harbinger is destroyed, he is close to dying and speaks with Shepherd. We find out that the Reapers are the tools of some being, or higher entity (call it what you will), doing as they were made to do, to ensure organic life is kept in check. Due to organic life’s nature of war and destruction it has the potential to destroy the galaxy, so no further life can flourish. The Reapers, and the higher entity, therefore let life flourish to a point, then advanced life is harvested to create more Reapers (replacing those lost in the harvesting) so it doesn’t advance too much (and their wars don’t render all planets lifeless). Harbinger dies and Shepherd readies his squad to push to the beam that takes them to the citadel, so they can open the stations arms and fire the weapon. Before they go Harbinger speaks again, only it is not Harbinger, the higher entity is speaking through him (different voice, and the light that are normally yellow are now white – mega creative haha).

The entity tells us that after the Galaxies came into being, organic life was initially left to flourish, but it advanced so much it almost destroyed the galaxy with its fighting, using weapons that became more advanced (far in excess of what we have seen). This entity then intervened, creating the Reapers, and putting in motion the cycle. Shepherd asks if this thing is ‘God’, to which it replies it is a natural order of this galaxy, like others are natural orders to other galaxies. (One idea is that it is the Galaxy’s consciousness, and this entity resides in dark energy – which maybe goes some way to explaining Dark Energy mentioned a lot in ME2.Trying to shoehorn that loose plot point in somehow.) Shepherd asks why machines were created by this entity to end the cycles, and it tells him that it took the technology from this advanced first cycle, moulded it to its needs, and uses it against organic life. And the organic life that is taken and harvested is used to keep the Reaper numbers strong, so the whole cycle is self fulfilling. And they created the Citadel and the Relays so that the Reapers could invade and move through the galaxy easily and also to shape organic life to rely on this tech, thus making the harvesting easier etc.
Then Shepherd asks if this entity is so strong, why are the Reapers even needed? Why not just wipe us out without the Reapers? The question is avoided and he is told he will fail, the Reapers are too powerful. The entity is too powerful. Shepherd marches on and takes his team to the Citadel.

It’s not just the squad that makes it to the citadel though, depending on how much Galactic Readiness and Military Assets you have in place (actually, only the second one, so MP is not needed). If your score is high, a whole army storm the citadel and help with the fight. If not then it’s much harder, not as many make it, and your team (save for the two picked to be in your squad, and Anderson) die. The fight on the Citadel is spectacular, as many people living there are now reaper husks etc. If your score if high though, and more join you on the Citadel, more of its populace are saved and join you in the fight. If not this section is much more grim and hopeless, and only Shepherd, and his two squad mates, and Anderson, make it to the control centre. He activates the arms to open and the Crucible is moved into place.

If the War Assets are too low (i.e. the lowest there is) then the Crucible is destroyed on route and we see a cinematic showing the Reapers successful in this cycle. We see battles over the coming century and advanced life is wiped out. Then a scene with the first alien race of the new cycle discovering a mass relay, and jumping to the citadel, which orbits earth. The aliens scan the planet and find that life exists, but it is not very advanced. But what is this station? Then a shot on earth, where we see what resembles Neanderthal man in packs, only evolution makes them look slightly different to what they were like in our cycle.
As long is the readiness is high enough, though, the Crucible is fixed into place and all forces defend the citadel and crucible, which the Reapers are now desperately attacking.

Then the Illusive man makes an appearance (how he gets there will need explaining), half transformed from Reaper tech and indoctrination, and tries to stop Shepherd. If you reputation is high enough, you can talk him down. If it is not, he launches an attack; Anderson is hit first and goes down. After the fight Shepherd goes to see Anderson, who dies after he tells Shepherd how proud he is, and considers him a son etc. He then tells Shep to stop the Reapers before passing.

Next to the control panel, but again the ‘entity’ makes an appearance to try and talk Shepherd out of what he is going to do. It maybe appears as a VI shape, like Vigil, but give the impression of a certain form. I don’t know, maybe Bioware could come up with something clever for this (or not, considering the current ending). It asks Shepherd to consider what it says about organic life, about its nature, that it WILL destroy the galaxy if left unchecked. It shows Shepherd images of past conflicts, horrible things intelligent life does to each other, from this cycle and others, of planets dying. It says organic life cannot control itself and the cycle, and the Reapers, are needed. The developers could do a good job here to use persuasive arguments used by this entity; after all, we know that the nature of man always seems to involve conflict, so it could carry some weight.

Now Shepherd has a choice – he can activate the Crucible or bring the arms shut again and let the harvesting continue. However there is a catch – someone needs to sacrifice themselves for the Catalyst to work (not sure why yet, but I’m sure something could be figured out). If he decides to side with the entity, after seeing everything, the entity thanks him and tells him he has saved the Galaxy. But his squad lose it with him. The closest to him in the squad (be it a love interest or not) accuse him of betraying humanity, betraying life! It’s emotionally charged and the squad member pulls a gun, saying everyone they love will die because of him. A trigger is prompted where Shep can disarm them, but in the process they are shot and die in his arms. If the trigger is ignored the grief stricken teammate shoots Shepherd – this could be so emotionally engaging, with the squad members heartbroken thinking of their soon to be dead loved ones, and all because of Shepherd, the hero they all believed in! Then we see a cut scene similar to before, where the Reapers win.

But if the signal is sent and the Reapers are destroyed, the entity condemns Shepherd for killing the Galaxy and vows it is not over. This entity will end this cycle, and maybe even stop organic life from ever evolving again. Shepherd answers that organic life is capable of putting its differences aside and working together. This war, that the entity caused, is proof of that. Things may get tough, but he believes life will come together for the greater good and by working together they can overcome anything (surely the overall theme of Mass Effect, highlighting what is wrong with today’s world). But next, someone needs to give up their life for the Crucible to be triggered, and it’s up to you to pick. You can pick Shep, as I think many would, or any of the people left with you. Anderson, if alive, offers himself, saying Shepherd is still needed and is the future. Other team mates also say Shep is needed and volunteer themselves. If you talked down the Illusive Man, even he offers himself, one last act to save humanity, and a shot at redemption. Pick, and the end scene kicks in.

The ending scene then shows the Reapers being destroyed via the signal, and the various races rejoicing together. A big, emotional, cinematic cut scene that gives us the ending we deserve and wanted.

After this scene, the next is determined by who lives or dies in your team (including Shep, Anderson and Hackett), if you have a love interest, and gives resolution to the characters (EDI and Joker, Tali and Garrus etc, as well as what each character plans on doing in the future). We see what is left of the team reunited around Shepherd, if he is alive, or the closest to him who is left if he is not, on Earth, as it stands in ruins but with a new dawn breaking through. The Normandy stands proud in the background. Shep, or whoever is left, gives an uplifting speech to everyone, then you are able to walk around and talk to different people to see what the squad have to say, giving us closure. Then Anderson (if he lived, someone else if not) says the rebuilding of all home worlds starts now, and that all life will work together in this endeavour.

If Shepherd is still alive, Anderson (or his stand in) tells Shep that he has earned a little break, and a shuttle is waiting to take him wherever he wants to go. Shep says he is thinking of retiring, that maybe has earned it, and looks to the shuttle - if you have a love interest, and they are alive, they are inside, waiting. If not, or the love interest died, the shuttle is empty. Shep walks to the shuttle to rapturous applause and some epic music. The shuttle takes off the pilot asks ‘where to?’ If you have a love interest here, he turns and looks into their eyes, if not he leans his head back and closes his eyes before answering. Your destination is driven by the love interest – if it’s Liara, you say Thessia. If it’s Ash, you say you want to go to her home place on earth, if it’s Garrus then the Turian home world etc. If you are alone then you get to choose a place.

The ship takes off and credits roll. After the credits you are in Shep’s home, wherever that is (so it gives reason for more play thoroughs, to see these different homes at different places) with your love interest (if you have one). A conversation shows what the past few years have been like for Shepherd – but you can also log onto the extranet to find out what your old squad mates have been up to since. Some nice little easter eggs to round off the series nicely.

If Shepherd didn’t survive, the focus of all this can be on his love interest or closest squad member, remembering Shepherd and what he gave.

Hell, you could even get a visit from this entity whilst at Shepherds (or love interests) home, saying to enjoy the happiness, it will not last as plans are in motion to end this cycle. Shep says to bring it on, he and the galaxy will be waiting, standing together as one - que Mass Effect 4! Lol.

I have tried to keep the Crucible, the Catalyst (although changed what it was) and this ‘higher being’ alluded to by the downed Reaper on the Quarian home world and by the Prothean VI. Simply because they are woven into the game pretty tightly and it would be difficult to remove them completely (which I would have preferred).

As I say, not amazing, but better than 'Blue explosion / Red explosion / Green explosion'.

Ah, perfect! I already wrote up what I think would solve the problem...

*copypasta*

1.  Only change the ending starting from the last scene with Anderson/Shepard/TIM. Everything about the ending before that stays the same, with a few changes.

2. Completely ignore the God-child-spirit. It conflicts and contradicts the "Protheans fooled the citadel" basis in ME1. This was important. Cut it out entirely.

3. Make several choices based off of war readiness, and how many assets went into the Crucible. Such as:

Very low: Launch a giant EMP burst that destroys all Reapers, AI, Citadel, Relays, most technology, ect, as well as sacrificing earth. Shepard dies. Normandy crashes, and everyone aboard dies.

Low: Same, but without damage to earth. Shepard dies. Normandy Crashes. Crew dies.

Medium-low: Burst that only destroys all AI. Shepard dies. Normandy Crashes, Crew dies.

Medium: Burst that destroys all AI in the Sol system, and the Reapers. This allows the Geth to live, but EDI dies. Saves the Relays, but not the citadel. Shepard dies. Normandy crashes, crew survives.

High-Medium: Releases a burst that disables the Reaper Shields across the galaxy, allowing the fleet to easily kill the rest(Reapers are weak without their shields, as ME1 shows. A single torpedo from the Normandy killed Sovereign without it's shields) Shepard lives. Normandy damaged, but does not crash, and the player is treated to a small cutscene of the Normandy and the fleet blowing up a few reapers.

High: Sends out a burst attuned to the Reaper core (The Geth provide the information. They studied reapers, remember. If they are not available, the Quarians provide it, having researched the Reaper corpse on their planet) causing the Reapers' reactors to overload and die. However, the Reaper core just happens to be identical to the Core of the Citadel as well. The Citadel overloads and blows up. Shepard lives. Relays stay intact. Player is treated to a cutscene of the Reapers blowing up, troops on the ground rejoicing, as well as the Normandy picking him and Anderson's body up before Citadel explodes.

Very-high: Sends out a pulse that kills only Reapers. All tech stays intact. Shepard lives. Relays intact. Citadel intact. Player is treated to the cutscene above, minus the citadel explosion.

In addition, the endings shown in the "original" game would be available. These would be available on the left side of the dialogue wheel, while the ones I have proposed would be on the right. Synthesis would be unlocked at the Very-High level, and Control would be unlocked at the High-Medium level. Destroy would be available no matter what.

To complete the Synthesis, Destroy, or Control ending, the player takes the elevator up to where the Original ending takes place. This way, they do not have to design an entirely new environment. The animations and flashbacks for these endings would stay the same. The only difference in the cutscene after this would be no Normandy crash.

The options of the three highest unlocked options would show up on the right of the wheel on the right side. For instance, someone who had Medium assets would get the option of killing all AI everywhere, all AI in the Sol system, or all technology everywhere without damage to earth.

The dialogue wheel would look like this, if someone had 100% of all assets.
                                Synthesis              Take down Sheilds
                                                __________/
                                               (                       )
Destroy    --------(                          ) ---Kill reapers, Destroy Citadel
                                               (                       )
                                                -----------------
                                               /
                                      Control                Kill all Reapers
4. Include a small, text and scene ending. Small clips of certain occations from the various decisions made will show. This will vary by ending.

EXAMPLE: Geth and Quarians rebuilding, all species rebuilding the invaded home planets, ect.

5. A small scene with Anderson and Shepard before Anderson dies, about what Shepard will do if the Crucible works. Shepard can then respond in a variety of ways depending on what options he is presented with because of the war assets claimed. Anderson then says the whole "I'm proud of you" spiel, wishes you luck, then dies.

EXAMPLE:

Retiring and living in peace, finally, with LI(or alone, if that is the case).

Saying “This device will probably destroy the citadel and kill us, so it does not matter.”

Continue to pursue peace and justice as a Spectre.

Become a diplomat/politician and guide humanity

Ect.

6. Any teammates that were with you at the time you got shot by the reaper will run towards the teleport-beam and make it to the Citadel ahead of you, thinking that you died, and that they need to finish what you started. Upon arriving there, you meet up with them and get to the console. They also get manipulated by TIM, but only you are able to "break free" by shooting or talking down TIM.

Anyway, that's my whole view on it.

THIS WAY:
Players can get the endings they want, the player can still sacrifice themselves to get the endings they want, the Devs can have the endings they want, and originally intended. The only thing this really cuts is the stupid spectral Ghost-child-God thing, which was ridiculous in the first place.

How does this sound? I tried to address every concern and viewpoint, and combine them into one good ending that I think would please everyone.

This!

If Shepard and LI settle down, I’ll do a freaken revise boycott.
Any safety for Shapard/LI should come at the cost of someone who was let down by Shapard’s failure to do his duty.

One of the thing that has bothered me about recent Bioware games is the creeping prudishness.

DA:O had wonderful adult romances and fully nude sex cut-scenes. ME1 has hinted elements and the much publisized butt-shots.

In contrast, DA II had characters either completely clothed or in garish medival undies. ME2 got around this mostly with teases and fades to black. Okay, not entierly bad, but definately a step backwards.

ME3? Mixed bag. A fully nude asari having sex with Sheppard in her standard issue undies. Okay, again not that bad given the scene. But you see they are using the same model for the other females. So now your communications specialist is showering in her underwear. Huh?

Come on, Bioware. This is a Mature rated game. Lose the inhibitions already, or just don't go there at all. Either works.

Personally, I was always okay with Sheppard not coming out alive. In fact, I'd always suspected it would end that way. It was part of what made the character great, knowing one day he may have to trade his life and his future so everyone else he cared about could have theirs. And doing so without a fraction of hesitation. It's what defined him, and made him great. And it's also why the ending to me seems like such a betrayal, because no one comes out of that okay.

There's no closure. We never find out if it was worth it. Knowing it was, knowing what happened to theses people we've come to care about is all I really want. I'm sure I'm not alone.

I am a huge fan of Mass Effect and I am really disappointing in the ending to Mass Effect 3.

I can forgive the 3 options for the ending, as gamers most of us have witnessed let downs in what a game was supposed to do, or something was supposed to be included. But what i can't forgive is the poorly thought out and written ending.

Starchild says that the reapers(which are synthetics) were created to erase all organic life because the synthetics the organics created were going to destroy them. So the reapers just got to do it before that could happen. Doesn't anyone at Bioware see how dumb that sounds? Just listen to what he says and it doesn't make sense. I will never understand why anyone at Bioware thought that would work.

How was the Normandy not around earth at the time of the explosion? Maybe Joker did take off, I can't see that happening but he could have. Now not only are squad members on the Normandy(the same ones that were on Earth during the last charge to the Citadel) but a squad member I took with me on the last mission, jumped out of the crashed Normandy. Again how does that work, and did anyone at Bioware read this over, play the ending, I don't want to speculate but someone dropped the ball on this big time.

What i will never understand is how Bioware and the staff could take such care of the intricate decision based off the first 2 games and think everything through ,up until the ending? I just don't get it. Please explain to me and countless others why these endings were fitting and made sense with lore, and the story itself. Just explain it to me.

And probably the worst thing Bioware/EA could have done was end the game with "buy more DLC. How insulting. I am confident i won't be buying any DLC for Mass effect 3 now.

I really don't know if Bioware should create a new ending(s). but the least Bioware could do is admit they messed up. Just apologize and you will be surprised how much respect you will get from fans. Admit the ending was bad and not thougtout, just admit you made a mistake. How hard is that to do?

Well... I've just finished the game and can say that it's realy briliant, but the endings are realy confusing. Many of us spent several years with ME - we earned Happy End like an opportunity. The best decision I suppose is "a fourth option":
http://social.biowar...2&poll_id=29101
or something like this. An opportunity to finish the war with only allied forces without making the tragic decision.
This can be only possible if:
1. there is a peace between the Quarians and the Geth;
2. you have have enough reputation to argue with the Guardian.
To win the battle you must have enough %GR (I had 75% and lost only Anderson). So there'll be opportunities:
1. loose the battle, next Circle begin;
2. win the battle with casualties (Earth, Anderson, Shepard);
3. win the battle without casualties (close to 100%GR).
And if you win the battle there are several possibilities for Normandy (depending from ME2 upgrades):
1. destroyed, whole team died;
2. fell on Earth (if it wasn't destroyed of course), team partly survived;
3. vessel is ok, team alive.
With different combinations we can have bitter, bitter-sweet or sweet ending. The realy sweet one possible only if you transfered the character from ME2 with Normandy fully upgraded (suppose it's honnest).

The other confusing thing is the planet where Nodmandy fell:
http://social.biowar...5/index/9851623

P.S. It's just an example and the great number of us (gamers/fans) are waiting for extended opportunities in the final of ME epic tale. And it must be free cause Bioware stole these opportunities from us and now we are thinking for Bioware!
