I want to start by saying that I am incredibly excited and grateful that we will be receiving more content (for FREE no less!) dealing with the current endings of ME3.  I think everyone on these forums can agree that the endings are FAR from perfect and that we all wished during that first playthrough that there would have been more.  More details.  More closure.  What happens to our crew?  What about everyone stranded at Earth?  What about the Quarians and the Krogan and every other race we worked so hard to help throughout the game?  I digress.

I would like to take the opportunity to highlight for the folks at Bioware what I hope we can see in the DLC they have planned to release and in addition, I think an argument can be made for the possible development of further ending DLC—despite their claim that they do not plan to create any in the future.

1. Clarification Cinematics to Cure Plot Holes.  Any content developed that is supposed to satisfy fans who felt the ending too abrupt is going to have to explain away the plotholes from the ending.  This will include:
a.  How members of their squad from the final push on the beam made it back onto the Normandy, especially when supposedly everyone was destroyed.
b.  How the Normandy made it to the Sol Relay and WHY they jumped to another system in the middle of the battle.
c.  What happened with the fleets that are now supposedly trapped on Earth.
d.  How are the home planets of our favorite species faring following the final destruction of the Reapers.
e.  How is it that the destruction of the Mass Relays didn’t result in the decimation of the systems that included them a la Arrival?

2. Closure Cinematics to Heal our Souls.  I personally ended my game with the Destroy option and Shep’s gasping breath from amongst the rubble.  This means there is room for explanation as to what happens to her afterwards.  Is she found and given medical treatment?  Does she recover and continue on as a Spectre?  Does she leave active service and settle down with her LI?  In my case she was with Kaidan, so do they team up as Spectres and work together for the Council?  Does she take the lead on rebuilding Earth?

The point is this:  those who took the Destroy option and were able to see Shep survive actually have the opportunity for the possibly “happy ending” that some say they have wanted.  This does not mean it needs to be sunshine and rainbows, because I think everyone understands that if taken literally, Shep certainly destroyed the Reapers, but also wiped out the Geth and EDI which could possibly take a great toll on the character, and certainly will effect Joker and the Quarians in a very personal way.  But at the same time, you have the opportunity for people to get their houses on Rannoch, or their blue babies or adopted Krogan.  [I doubt that Garrus and Shep could sit still long enough to raise children…I kind of imagine them going back to Omega and making life difficult for Aria.]

For those who did not have Shep survive, I know that I would have at least wanted some kind of scene showing her LI grieving for her, or some kind of memorial put up for her, or a funeral service…some kind of recognition that the sacrifice she had made was worthwhile and felt by those who knew, loved, and honored her.

I think that if any of this had been included in the original game there would have been much less uproar about the endings, and people would have been sad to see a great trilogy end, but wouldhave been better able to grieve for their characters and accept what they saw.  The very abrupt and impersonal nature of the ending as it stands left most people jarred and staring in disbelief.  I know I went back and played through all three endings because I thought I had chosen the wrong one, and then found they were almost identical.  I even bought into the IGN-fed hope of a New Game+ alternate ending.  All to be left with the same soul crushing feeling I had to begin with.

3. Don’t Rule Out Additional DLC.  This will be a hard argument to win, but I think there is opportunity for everyone to win if we can convince Bioware that it is worth their time and effort (read: money) to develop even further potential DLC.  I don’t know how many times in the past I have read quotes stating something along the lines of “Mass Effect 3 will provide a true ending for *your* Shepard” supposedly based upon all decisions made throughout all three games.  With that being said, the current endings and the fan disbelief in them led to the development of The Indoctrination Theory.  While not perfect in itself, I know that all the fans I am personal friends with who have played the game have all adopted Indoc as “their” canon.  I think this would apply to many on these forums.

Bioware has the opportunity here to  develop a DLC specifically for the Indoctrination Theory, and allow fans who believe that such a scenario better fits how the series should end for *their* Shepard the chance to buy it.  That’s right, you have already promised us something amazing: additional DLC to help make the game better at no cost to the consumer.  Well I’m saying that if you took the time to create an Indoctrination DLC/Expansion with the details I’ll lay out next, that I would happily pay $10, hell, I’d pay more for it and thank you all the while.

With that being said, here is what I hope you would consider putting in a future DLC specifically for fans such as myself who think the Indoctrination Theory is a brilliant ending for their Shepard.  Since I’m listing out my hopes and dreams here, I’ll start back at the Star Child:

A.  Destroy the Logic of the Catalyst.  We can all agree that Shep, who has argued with everyone who presented black and white choices that she didn't like in the past, would not simply lay down and take Star Child's logic.  At least allow her to try to state her case.  Obvious examples of Quarian/Geth cooperation should be used as evidence that the cycle of doom does not have to continue and that the current cycle should be given a chance.

 i.  Because the entire Star Child experience is now part of Indoctrination, it is fine he is not convinced, but perhaps mod the scene a little so that at least the gameplayers see the Star Child slip from his white-angel appearance to Harbinger so that it is clear that we are dealing with a manipulation of the Reapers.  It will also help explain how Shep can choose to destroy the Geth and EDI because it seems almost impossible for her to choose to commit genocide when she just worked so hard to bring peace and fight for the rights of synthetics.

ii.  Go with the system you already have set up so that with high enough EMS Shep is successful at breaking the Reaper's hold and wakes up in the rubble facing again the beam to the Citadel, but also Harbinger.  Let there be a boss fight here.  I don't think any player will mind being able to finally take on the Reaper who spent all ME2 hunting Shep and her team and, depending on choices, resulting in the loss of friends.

B.  The Battle for Earth should be Epic.  Like many others, I think it is important that the work you have put into building your alliances and gathering support has direct impact and pay off as to how well the battle on Earth goes.

i.  The game felt like it got scope-locked onto following only Shep during the push through London, whereas I felt like during the rest of the game, there was a good sprinkling of cutscenes or cinematic moments that gave a sense of scale to the attacks (Reapers walking around the moon of Palaven, Reapers landing on Earth and destroying ships trying to flee, etc).   Use this final battle as an opportunity to let the work you've done in all the games pay off by showing platoons of Geth landing on Earth and attacking, or the Terminus Fleet getting down and dirty against some Cannibals and Marauders.  Let the assets you've gathered be shown in the fight at the same time that Shep is protecting tanks and firing missiles at Reapers and fighting what seems like a dozen Brutes.

ii.  Along this same vein, let your EMS and the amount of assets you've acquired actually effect how well that battle goes.   Meaning that if you pissed off a lot of people and failed to make alliances means that you have less people to throw at the final push toward the beam, and in the final battle against Harbinger.  Sure, Shep herself and her squad (if they survive) will be the focus of any boss fight, but that doesn't mean that the battle can't be influenced by having allies arrive who take out Husks and Cannibals that otherwise would come in droves making the final fight against Harbinger that much harder.

C. Provide the Variety of Endings this Trilogy Deserves.  I think one of the biggest things I felt at finishing the game was the sense of disappointment at what COULD have been one of the most epic and amazing series of games ever.  I mean you guys were so close!  The game was amazing!  Until the end.

i.  If a Shep sacrifice and ensuring there are no "happy endings" is important to Bioware as creators, then okay.  I would have been fine with having that reality forced on me if I could have been given a sense of that sacrifice being worth it.  You guys are already supposedly addressing this in the forthcoming Extended Cut.   I just want to reiterate how one of the promises of the ME trilogy was getting the chance to see in a real and tangible way how each of our choices would reverberate throughout the rest of the series.  These same choices NEED to be reflected in what we see at the end of the game.

ii.  You get the idea:  a gambit of outcomes where if you make different choices throughout ME1, ME2 and ME3, you can see a completely different ending.  This encourages additional gameplay but would ALSO mean that individuals who start with ME3 will be more apt to go out and buy the other games in order to get their desired endings.  To that end, I would not be pissed if you chose to make it so that the Golden/Happy Ending required importing characters from the previous games in order to encourage this kind of commitment to the story.

D.   Let Anderson Have His Moment.  I think throughout the series Anderson has spent a lot of time feeling frustrated and ineffectual.  Since he is the face of the resistance on Earth and clearly a father-figure to Shep, let him have the opportunity to take a hero role in the final confrontation with TIM on the Citadel.

i.  If Indoctrination Theory has its day, then hopefully the final push into the beam will occur after defeating Harbinger.  You, your squad and Anderson all go up into the Citadel together.  Do not have the conversations with TIM sound like flashbacks to conversations with Benezia and Saren.  I do not need to see his final redemption.  Let him be the ruthless man who was finally twisted into the most effective weapon of the Reapers.  Ever since Thessia I wanted nothing more than to have Shep put a bullet right between his eyes.  In that light, sure, have Shep and Anderson try to talk him down, but it would be nice to see a Renegade interrupt where Shep can simply end the conversation by shooting and killing TIM, but if you bypass that, let Anderson take care of it.  Maybe the Paragon interrupt has Shep tossing Anderson a gun because she has to run to the control panel to get the Citadel open because the fleets outside are having a hard time protecting the Crucible.  Then we can watch Anderson finally have the opportunity to make something happen on screen.

E. The Crucible should Destroy the Reapers and Not the Relays.  Your own canon states that destroying the Relays will likely destroy the systems they are in.  Since the goal of this trilogy was not to end in the utter destruction of all life in the galaxy and instead was to SAVE those people, kill this plot hole by ensuring that when the Crucible activates it really does only destroy the Reapers.  This logic doesn't even need to be explained and you can keep the energy wave graphics already developed because we don't care why it works, that can just be part of the design that was taken care of by the Protheans.  This way Shep's final actions leading to the salvation of the galaxy will actually result in its being saved, and not in 1000s of people being stranded on/around Earth without any hope of ever getting home.

You guys at Bioware are the professionals and will obviously be able to come up with far more effective storylines, dialogue and ideas then I can, as witnessed by the sheer genius of the scenes with Mordin, Thane and Legion.  I have faith that the writers and developers who crafted those scenes can do justice to the final chapter for Commander Shepard, a character we as a community have so personally invested in and loved.  I hope you’ll take this opportunity to show us just how amazing an ending you are capable of coming up with. Thanks to anyone who actually took the time to read through this.

TL/DR, I know, I’m sorry!

Some praise & constructive criticism, followed by content request:

--Role-Playing Elements--

Combat:

Even though more action game elements have been introduced into the series (most of them I actually did enjoy), I still consider Mass Effect 3 to be a role-playing game at its heart.

I thought the changes to the combat system, weapon modding, skill progression, etc. were great. I thought they were balanced very well in giving me a feeling of control and customization without feeling “dumbed-down”. I think there’s a difference between “depth” and “needless complexity” and I was really happy with how it all turned out in that department.

Dialogue and Immersion:

In regards to actual “role-playing”, I wasn't thrilled with how little input I had on the dialogue as compared to ME1, and even ME2, and on a few occasions felt like "my" Shepard was behaving "out of character". For example:

Shepard and Udina's Council-bashing in regards to them wanting to secure their own homeworlds [/b]BEFORE[/b] providing aid to anyone else. I can’t stand the Council at times, and yes it sucks for us, but I completely understood their reasons on this matter. Shepard apparently felt that the Council was "blind" because they weren’t treating Earth as The Capital of the Universe and immediately dropping everything across the galaxy to go save it. One moment that actually made me wince was after the turian councilor entered and made Shepard an offer/suggestion which was basically this:

“If you go and rescue this one turian political figure from our homeworld (which is also being completely annihilated) it would pave the way for an alliance and the liberation of Earth.”

My first thought was “Sounds good to me!”. Shepard sounded almost offended, which made ME offended. He got uppity about it, and literally responded with a “Harumph...”.

You march in and ask them to devote pretty much the entirety of each of their military forces to save your homeworld, but then get hostile when a counsilor asks you to utilize your stealth ship to save one of their political party in exchange for the promise of aid in reclaiming Earth??

That was the first time in the series I really began to feel like not only was Shepard no longer my “avatar” and was just his own separate entity, but worse, one that I was really beginning to dislike. It felt to me like he was becoming the representative for the players who wanted to get through all these “boring talking parts” so they could pick up a gun and get back to shooting stuff. Those were my personal impressions from it anyway.

I then had an interesting moment back on the Normandy. While exiting the War Room, the checkpoint guards were discussing the meeting with the Council. One commented (not exact quotes) “Can you believe the Council??”. The other replied with “C’mon, if Thessia was in flames but Earth hadn’t been touched yet, you'd bet your ass we’d be guarding our own borders.”. I literally said out loud “Thank you!”. Then it dawned on me that I just had a moment where my views were shared more with an NPC than with the character I was playing.

Though on a more positive note, I will say that I really, really enjoyed the character interaction between me... er... Shepard and the crew. I thought the dialogue and scenarios were really well written and I had more than a few moments either lol’ing of having my heart-strings plucked. However I did feel that the attention given across characters was too unbalanced. Which leads to the content request.

Request for Content Featuring More, and Better Balanced, Character Interaction:

I thought that the amount and depth of the content that was given to romancing Liara was great. Plenty of deep, meaningful scenes (a beautiful “goodbye” scene, she writes your name in the stars!! lol, etc.), excellent interaction, and probably the best love scene I’ve ever seen in a game (very sensual while maintaining class, bravo!).

Ashley was lacking in content when compared to Liara including the love scene being a fraction of the length. Wished for more content in general but she still had a decent amount. At least both Ashley and Liara come out and say the words “I love you” which I think we all want to hear if we’ve gotten that close to them.

Jack was tragically shunned in comparison. She did receive some good/funny relationship-specific lines:

Being reunited with getting punched in the face to “That was for leaving ******.” followed by a forced heavy make-out session was just great in an “Ahh... Jack.” way lol. Lines like “I WAS going to burn off the N7 I got on my ass...”,  “You just wanna pee on me out of an Alliance uniform don’t you? Perv.”, and “Don’t get killed ******. When this is over, I’m getting laid.” were all great, fitting, and made me laugh out loud.

But... that was it. That was pretty much the entirety of her romance content. The “relationship” and “friendship” paths even concluded in the exact same way: A humorous moment on the dancefloor? Where’s the hugs, tears, and cuddles I got in ME2 lol? I think that there’s more than enough dramatic stuff going on to merit a vulnerable moment of intimacy from even the hard-shelled Jack.

Jack’s character and relationship progression in ME2 was deep imo. It showed her walls slowly crumbling down to reveal the person underneath all the anger, tattoos, and attitude (which are great, but I’m just saying that there is more to her character that I felt just wasn’t ever reflected in ME3).

I understand that not every character can receive the same amount of attention. But I really felt that the balancing was too off. As if Liara got a huge slice of the pie-chart, Ashley got a decent size, followed by Tali, but then Jack and Miranda were both just given a sliver (Samara got barely a crumb lol). Each of these characters have large fan bases and I don’t see them as “minor” characters. I know almost nothing about development or writing. But as a fan, I feel that if you’re going to go as far with a character as to make them a love interest, they should be given enough content to be treated as some players’ “one and only”. If that makes any sense.

Obviously Jack is the character that I personally want more of lol, but I think some “extended” relationships would be very successful and be greatly appreciated by the fans who are in love with these characters.

In closing, thanks for an overall phenomenal game/series and I hope to see some more content (or news of content) start pouring out soon. Peace.[/b]

1. Add more war assets- A lot of people have said that getting 4000 EMS w/o multiplayer is impossible. I'm one of those people. I did everything I could in the game. I did every side quest, N7 mission, and every ambient dialogue that affects war assets. No matter what I do, I always come up 500 EMS points short so I can't get the "Shepard lives" ending. I am unable to play multiplayer and I don't have an iOS or iphone or anything to play Infiltrator or get Datapad so singleplayer is my only option. Why is it mandatory to play multiplayer to get the "Shepard lives" ending when it was stated that multiplayer is not needed to get the "best" ending, and that you could get it with singleplayer alone?
I heard the Extended cut will add epilogues and stuff to the endings, but it will mean absolutely nothing if we, who can't play multiplayer, have a disadvantage compared to others and unable to get the optimal ending. Please add more war assets in the future, at least 1000 so that with 50% readiness that would be 500 EMS so those of us who got around 3500 EMS at the end will have just enough to get the ending where their Shepard lives.

2. Please fix the endings- I know that you won't change the endings no matter what we say. At the very least, please make it a little bearable for us who don't agree with your "artistic vision". Please let there be a semi-happy ending option, that Shepard would live and be reunited with his/her friends and LI and help rebuild the universe or something like that. It can still be sad with the sacrifices of Mordin, Legion, Thane, etc. but for the most part everything worked out. This is still tied to the war assets issue since reaching something like this would be impossible w/o multiplayer, unless you change it to make it fair for the singleplayer alone to reach it.

That's my 2 cents on my suggested changes.

Bioware put too much emphasis on "inexperienced players" to let them "jump in" on ME3. This was definately a mistake. It brings fresh money but makes the game too "streamlined". It shows up mostly in poor conversations where most of them are just cinematics without sufficient dialogue choice. The biggest disappointment for me was that the main storyline lacked any meaningful dialogue choices. Sure, I could choose some answers but they basicly conveyed the same message. An example of this would be on Mars when Shepard talks with the Illusive Man. Actually the idea of controlling Reapers is a valid one and most reasonable (I would say a scientific one). Of course, TIM's methods to achieve this goal are unacceptable but Shepard sometimes seems like a guy with a bazooka who only wants to blow things up.

more than one ending where shepard lives

I'm tired of being rewarded with survival only if I commit genocide.  I don't think any other game has ever done that in the history of ever.

And that's not a compliment.

Aye and the main reason I am not thrilled with just more cut scenes for the same endings.

More than A, B, C endings that Casey Hudson promised. I don't care if you put them in as text at this point like your BS dlc push at the end. Just let us ignore the massively stupid ending you have in currently so we can get some replayability out of this expensive product.

Just an option in the menu,

"Turn on actual Integrity" - This option allows for multiple endings we promised albeit in text and you dont have to watch Starchild force Command Shepherd commit genocide or forced homogenization.

Stop passing misinformation to your customer base and using obvious PR tactics. I know Bioware has total loyalty in some fans and they will jump on a grenade for you, but isn't it sad that they don't know you wouldn't p*ss on them if they were on fire,

It's a worthwhile read despite the bashing. There are a few suggestions and ideas toward the end of the post. Comments and feedback are appreciated. Thanks and all the best.

If there is one thing I would really like, it would be more than one way for Shepard to live.

Please.

I want my Shepard to live, but I don't want to murder all the Geth and Edi. The Geth are my favourite race in the game, and to have to kill them to save myself ... that is horrifying. Please, BioWare. Hear us out. Fix this.

I am so grateful that you are doing this for free, but I hope, sincerely, that I am heard.

Seriously, I don't care if it's some magical thing that takes 6000 EMS to pull off, saving the Geth and Shepard. I just want the Geth and Shepard to go on in the Mass Effect universe. The endings are still a bit nonsense to me, mainly because of the gaping plotholes which have been gone over everywhere else in this thread, but if you refuse to change those for whatever "Artistic" reason, at least let us have this.

Saving everyone by committing genocide is a big ol' Nice Job Breaking It Hero, and that ... isn't... fun.

I loved the game up until the last ten minutes or so.

I can't really add much to the conversation, since I lack the gumption or time to type out an essay on the many issues plaguing the ending scenes, but I feel I can at least make one point that I haven't seen mentioned much, if at all in the overarching discussion.

The "sunshine, bunnies, and rainbows" ending that is often cited by Gaming Journalists and other folks seeking to lambast those who disliked what they were given by you kind developer type people...is literally impossible.

Even if Shepard were to live, the Reapers were destroyed, the relays remained intact, and the ending was essentially the Medal Ceremony from Star Wars it still wouldn't be happy.

I mean, think about it, billions of people have died. Entire worlds have been burned, colonies eradicated, species brought to the brink of extinction or snuffed out entirely based on your decisions, fleets decimated, the galactic economy reduced to rubble, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria.

There is no happy ending. There is only Zuul- I mean there is only room for a (for most) hopeful ending (or sixteen different variations, ranging from hopeful to ruinous).

Even if it was a singular ending, it could have been so much more than what it was and, frankly, it diminishes the series in its entirety in its current incarnation.

I understand the pushback from an artistic standpoint, but being the writer I am, I don't quite grasp the level of fervor that pushback is reaching.

If a work of mine was near universally reviled, with countless intellectual, logical breakdowns that made the problems known to me...like what has happened here...I wouldn't think twice about giving it another shot. I don't view my work as being above scrutiny or alteration simply due to my sense of Artistic Integrity. That's me though.

I get that it's a matter of finances and personal opinion, but we would all appreciate some honesty here, rather than the usual PR spiels.

I want the ending ot make sense, and it could use more frosting.

Secondly the requests people got about takign out the reapers shilds seems like a very poor option... the reapers at earth are just a small portion of the reaper armada, there is no way you can take out the oens on palaven, thessia, all the colonies and othere specis homeworlds since most of the galaxys fleets are at earth and they would still take enough losses from just destroyign the ones at earth.

Even if the whole galaxys fleets would manage to destroy every reaper in the sol system it wouldn't be a Victory, just a small decline in reaperforces. So wiping out every reaper dreadnaught, destroyer and zombie in Sol wouldn't give a victory, just a small repite for the sol system until reapers jumps in a force twenty times bigger than the ones they destroyed, and those would probably have repaired the shields unless they went braindead in the process.

So I understand the need for a spectacular non conventional ending, but I want it to make sense and I want the fightign in the sequences to get very tense perhaps knockout a few reaper shiled with those special earth torpedos mounted on the fighters if you got em and enough military strength to push through the fighter screen. Also the forces fighting on earth seemed incredibly pathetic considering they were supposed to be the best fighters from across the galaxy, along wth others that got caught in between ofcourse...

But realy I want it to make sense, and what was the word... closure.. which commes from the story making sense along with making the preparations and sidequests seem conected to the ending.
First you ally with the geth who fight and give their lives to help you then you have to choose between killing them or breakign your promises to destroy the reapers? Anyway, things like that shouldn't be handled casualy.

For GOD'S sake, BW, if you only do ONE SINGLE THING, make it this!  It is incredibly unfair and just WRONG to deny people access to parts of the SINGLE PLAYER game and story as some kind of punishment for not playing Multiplayer --- for whatever reason.

These people pay the same price for the game as anyone else but you are denying them all an important and significant part of the SINGLE player experience.  When we buy games with MP access, we accept that we can't access MP stories or levels or weapons - FINE.  I buy Red Dead Redemption and I can't virtually gamble online with others to unlock achievements or extra outfits - OK then. I can still complete the main SP story arc.

In Mass Effect 3, I am not allowed.

When the hell will you address this!?  To me, this is a massive slap in the face and incredibly unfair to the gamers.  It's also something you could VERY easily fix.

After finally getting through and reading all of the suff about the different endings, and watching clips of other scenes I didn't have, I'm ready to give my gripes. I'll only list the ones  I honestly had in my experience that haven't been beaten to death already (I also had the general vaguness problem but you've already said the DLC will deal with it so cool). If for some reason you honestly want me to say specifically what "huh?"s I had, I'd do that, but it's pretty much a summation of all the major "What about _______?" questions you've had.

I chose Synthesis and was pretty happy with peace. Like I said, I had lots of questions, but they're already here in strength (joker's escape, relays).

1) I romanced Tali, and so she only appeared for a few short seconds after stepping off of the Normandy. Seeing more of what happens to her was important to me, even if you troll me with it being a scene of her crying with the rest of the squad trying to comfort her over Shep's death.

2) The LI was not one of the 3 people flashing before Shepard's eyes (unless you romance Liara). That was weird and I would have found it better if it had. On that note, why just Liara out of the squad? I'd have thought Garrus would have made it for sure, you guys wrote a perfect bromance. That line after missing the shot "I'm Garrus Vakarian, and this is my favourite spot on the Citadel"? That was the best. Friendship like that should be in there.

1 is more of a symptom of what I personally found to be the greatest weakness of the ending, and this applies even if indoctrination theory is true. After 3 games of excellently written plot and characters, I really wasn't satisfied with a three second shot of them getting off of the ship. I'm into the sci-fi lore, but the characters are what I really cared about the most - they were fantastic. I needed a lot more closure with them, especially with the LI. I felt this contrasted really sharply with the rest of the game in that the rest was awesome in its character resolutions. Thane's redeeming end when he dies to fight Kai Leng? Perfect. Mordin's end while saving the Krogran? Perfect. Legion's? Perfect. Those were the only ones (woot) that kicked it in my playthrough. I later looked up other resolution scenes and found them also to be fantastic across the board. After seeing Tali's suicide scene I went to go lie down. I can't stress enough how perfect the game was at tying up the player's relationship (not Shepard's) with characters who were resolved in comparison with how it tied up those relationships at the end in terms of the game's resolution.
The goodbyes before the last push were also fantastic.  To be honest, I was more shocked than anything at this. I loved how DA:O dealt with this topic. Sure, I'll always want more so it's tough to decide when enough is enough, but DA:O was still so much better in this aspect with its text epilogue, and you guys made it so I was surprised you didn't at least match that. Then I was thinking "Do they want me thinking? To not know? To wonder? Is that the point I'm missing?" If so, then I suppose that's art, but I don't like it.

In spite of the ending's imperfections, I'd say it's still one of the best stories I've ever played. If the ending had completely jelled for me I'd have had to tack on 'ever' to that sentence. Sorry guys, close but not perfect. I have to go pay for losing a bet - Bioware is actually staffed by humans :P

Thank you so much for making these 3 games.

Edit: I just remembered one thing that is worth mentioning. You know what was one of my favourite parts about the Shadow Broker DLC? The dossiers on the crew that gave insights into their lives. Don't forget how much awesome you can get from plain simple text.

Okay I have never ever complained about a game in a forum
before and I have played terrible games. Mass effect is awesome. One blew my
mind, two knocked my socks off, and three melted my heart… right up until the
ending where it ripped me to shreds and left me angry and heart broken. I love
this series and that is why I don’t like seeing it end this way. Honestly this
was the worst ending to the best game and that just cant happen. I spent the
night after I beat the game hoping I would wake up and it would all be a bad
dream. However I’m not writing this just to complain.

I believe that mass effect 3 does indeed need to be changed
and even if my suggestions don’t matter I have to speak them. The problem is
obviously the ending. To put it nicely the ending sucks. Here is just my
opinion of how the game should have gone:

First I think the crucible needs to be deleted. IT is part
of the reason the ending sucks and it is worthless since it prettmuch screws
over the galaxy when it destroys the mass relays. I think that instead of
building the crucible the alliance should have simply been building massive
dreadnoughts (Possibly designed by the protheans like the crucible was) with
firepower to rival the reapers. It would still be easy to manage the story because
you still have to get war assets and Cerberus must still be destroyed because
they are a huge pain in the *** and if they are left alone for the last fight
they would help the reapers.

In the last battle there NEEDS to be more! I didn’t see
anything that made me feel like my choices mattered. Joker said a few things
and everyone “Reported in” that’s about the only thing that really seemed like
it had changed. Also the citadel shouldn’t be there anymore because there is no
crucible (also the citadel being there was stupid because you think it would be
remotely difficult for the reapers to just take the citadel in the hour it took
you to destroy Cerberus and I mean come on the citadel has a huge population,
it would be like attacking earth a second time so I don’t think the reapers
could just walk in without a fight as it is the seat of galactic politics.) As
for the whole battle in London that is easily rectified:

The battle in London no longer needs to be about getting to
the beam thingy. Instead I present two reasons(both similar) The alliance built
a large orbital defense turret in preparation for the reaper attack however the
reapers arrived two early and it was never finished but the reapers finished it
when the illusive man tipped them off that u had amassed a fleet possibly
powerful enough to take them down. The second is just that the reapers built
the entire orbital defense gun for the same reason. No matter which it is clear
that to win the battle for earth you must take the gun at all costs. It’s the
same run and gun strategy as when they were trying to get to the beam but
hopefully we could see some of your game choices impact. Maybe the geth could
send in some shock troops at some point or maybe the rachnii which I didn’t
even see in the last battle at all could show up cause they really should!!!!!
And maybe your companions that you don’t pick to come with you should go with
the rest of hammer instead of disappearing for the rest of the game?

Basically you kill the destroyer the same way and then take
the tower. The tower starts to fire at the reapers and with the extra support
Hackett orders a full push. There should be a sweet cut scene in which your
ships get destroyed if you didn’t do well in your choice making or your ships
kick *** if you did.

Meanwhile Shepard and the rest of hammer set up a defensive
perimeter around the defense gun. Reaper forces begin to blitz their position
in a aggressive attempt to regain the gun and turn it on the now in range
alliance/alien ships. Shepard could jump on a turret like he did a few times
before only this time you have a meter filling up as reaper forces get past
your line of sight and attack hammer forces. If the meter fills you lose (just
like dying except instead of “You died” it says “you were overrun”). If you
keep the reapers from overrunning you then eventually they stop coming. It
flashes up to the space battle and Harbinger leaves the battle to come attack
you.

With Harbinger on the way many of the surviving hammer
soldiers start to freak out and some openly suggest abandoning the orbital
defense gun. Its then time for Shepard to step up and make a speech. Throw in
some paragon or renegade dialogue choices and hammer troops get pumped and
begin to yell with valor or something. Then Harbinger swoops down and yells
something (perhaps even just “SHEPARD!!!!”) Then Anderson or Shepard or anyone
yells “Open fire” and Hammer opens up with a heroic last stand against
harbinger. Obviously it doesn’t hurt him much and he is blasting hammer apart.
Shepard then gets tossed when harbinger fires on his position. He is a little
scratched but still has his armor and is alright. Maybe that’s when Anderson
dies or something dramatic with his companions happens (all of his companions
should be present!)

Just when it seems like Harbinger has won, in flies the
Normandy! Joker pounds Harbinger with everything the Normandy has and maybe
says a few things before harbinger shoots the Normandy down and it crash
lands(If bad choices were made joker and the crew die, if good choices were
made Joker and the crew will survive) Then as the Normandy goes down Shepard
yells furiously and opens up on harbinger with his rifle. The survivors of
hammer, inspired by shepard, opens fire as well.

Its then that a squadron of alliance fighters sent by
admiral Hackett arrives to save the day. With harbinger severely damaged by the
Normandy and hammer the fighters have a chance. As Harbinger Tries to fire his
main lazer one last time the squadron flies in formation straight at him and delivers
a pounding too the giant red circle that looks like an eye. Harbinger is
destroyed and once again the game cuts up to the space battle where the reapers
are being destroyed. Ships blast away the last few and as the carnage settles
Hackett Says something like “That’s it, all reaper ships have been destroyed!
We… we won.” A resounding cheer goes out among the fleet as fighter pilots fly
around yelling victoriously in their cockpits, ship captains sit back in their
seats relieved and the word gets out.

The cinematic then flashes to the Citadel where the news is
just coming in that the reapers have been defeated, Cheers erupt, people cry,
people hug/kiss, and maybe Bailey pours himself a drink and raises his glass in
silent toast to shepard.

Then we see other places, other planets. The krogan on
Tuchanka head butt each other and shoot in the air. Thousands of Asari gathered
to pray at some shrine to their goddess stand and cheer etc…(The player should
also be standing and cheering. I expected that completing Mass effect three
would make me feel like putting my arms up like I just don’t care but instead I
said “What the hell was that?”) Then perhaps we get back to Shepard. The
remenants of hammer should be raising their guns in victory and Shepard should be
shaking hands/ hugging his companions, while soldiers salute him as he(Or she I
guess) passes them. Then the last companion you run into should be the one you
had as your romance(unless it was with one of the people not in your squad) For
instance if it was liara, shepard would take her in his arms and kiss her as
the sun sets in the background.

But hold the credits this game can’t end yet. We have to
settle a few things.

Now we go to a meeting of all the important people such as
Anderson (if he is alive), Hackett, the council, and all the leaders of the
different races you collected. Perhaps Shepard finally gets some praise and
then after a little talking about the victory Hackett mentions that all the
reapers weren’t present at the last battle since they were spread out across
the galaxy (but most were called back) and now the fleet has been dispatched to
hunt down the remaining reapers. This sets up that perhaps a reaper could hide
for years and emerge later in another mass effect game (not with shepard since
this is his last.)

Now comes the varied endings part as all good role-playing
games have. The council recognizes Shepard as a great man/women in all aspects
and mentions that with Udina’s sudden departure there is a council spot open.
Here shepard may either: 1- join the council and become a politician. 2- stay
in the military and help the alliance rekindle losses. 3- retire and live the
rest of his/her days in relaxation with whoever he/she was romantically
involved with. Maybe there could be more choices but these three endings are
better than the three choices at the end of mass effect 3 (That’s just my
opinion)

That’s all I have to say and I really hope you at least do
something to change the ending in some way that doesn’t completely make me lose
all hope and love for video games. (Heck you could at least add a renegade
action at the end where Shepard gives the catalyst the finger) So I don’t care
if you don’t even read this but please for the love of Shepard fix this game! I
will not buy any DLC (or any of your products) you come out with until you fix
it and hopefully those who agree with me that the ending sucked will refuse to
buy your products either. You have crushed my heart and soul Boiware… at least
try to patch me up… look on the bright side you couldn’t make the ending worse
lol. Sorry if that last comment hurt but I assure you your ending hurt much
more.

For what it's worth, I romanced Kaidan, and I saw Joker, Kaidan and Liara in my final three flashes, with Kaidan and Garrus appearing on the planet with Joker at the end.  Don't know why Tali didn't show up for you in the flashes as I thought for sure it was supposed to be the LI.

Stop ruining your own franchises, is the only advice I can give.

I mean not changing the ending , while everyone that is not a fanboy or trying to kiss up in anyway , nor an hater, just see what a rubbish ending this is,.
Don't know if the end slideshow with stockphotos is already done, but if it isn't please ask an inturn ( please don't spend any more money on this mediocre "game") to animate shepard shooting himself in the head....then at least he won't have to experience the "artistic"ending

Bioware, your current plan for ending DLC is weak. It fails to accurately gauge how bad your ending is. For this I refer you to a video on youtube:

Be aware there is strong language that may not be suitable to young forum readers. Please be aware and view at your own risk.

Here is some honest constructive feedback Bioware: next time: Answer the hard questions instead of patting yuorselves on the back when you have undone all your hard work through the series with a horrible mess of badwriting in the end.
Let us honestly ask our question and answer them without 10 inches of corperate b*llsh*it coming in between. We know you listen at least sometimes, why do you hate your customers to this degree that you rather spread PR poop over everything than stand up to the simple FACT about how your pseudo ending robs not only us but also yourselves from ALL the hard work that went into ME3? How can you even face your other teammembers and look them in the eyes?

Post-PAX feedback:
Thank you for offering the extended cut DLC for free.
  • Please incorporate the Indoctrination Theory into the existing ending.
  • Please provide a clear explanation, absent confusion and speculation, of the outcome of the decisions made, consistent with existing lore and the logic of the narrative, especially with regards to the planets, races, and companions detailed throughout the series.
  • Please provide a more complete explanation of the story events in a manner consistent with the quality we've come to expect from the Mass Effect trilogy and BioWare.
  • Please provide a wider variety of distinct endings which appropriately reflect the spectrum of possible player decisions across the Mass Effect trilogy, and Effective Military Strength, from a tragic ending in which the Reapers are victorious to a heroic ending which provides a powerful sense of accomplishment, fulfillment, and closure.

I just posted this in a thread about the live blogs from PAX east but I believe it would also do good here. Especially since they say they are reading this thread (which considering how the PAX east event went is a lie):

Bioware is now synonymous with cowardice. They understood most if not everyone in that room wanted to ask questions regarding the ending and they cut them off. So much for listening to their "Beloved Fans" I mean
seriously. If they are listening to feedback then they darn well know we want more then just "clarification and closure."

Whats worse is they had ample opportunity to take 10 questions and answer them with serious answers. That they didn't shows their answer isn't sufficient and they know it or they are deliberately ignoring their fan bases
biggest concerns. These 10 questions are:

10. Why on earth did you not render Tali's face in-game and then use it on a still picture
rather then editing a stock photo in photoshop?
9. Why on earth does Shepard just give in and accept what the Catalyst, the self proclaimed
leader and controller of the reapers, says without argument doing away
with his established character?
8. Why in gods name did you think it was a good idea to use the argument that the catalyst made synthetics
(reapers) to kill organics to save them from other synthetics (Ai/Geth)
which is founded on horrific logic?
7. Why weren't we given the option to actively speak to the catalyst and why did you do away with
the trusted Bioware dialogue wheel which has served the series since it's inception?
6. Where was Harbinger the entire game. Seriously this was a huge mistake, you made him to be the face of the reapers and main antagonist and then he's absent 99% of the game?
5. Why did you negate player choices from ME1 (Rachni Queen) and ME2 (Geth Heretics) thus rendering our actions inconsequential?
4. What was the reason for removing ME2 and ME3 LI's from the final cutscene leaving us only with Liara, Kaiden and Ashley?
3. Why the heck did you decide that a relay explosion(s) should ignore established lore and story elements and instead resort to "space magic" in order to end your story thus crushing any semblance of flow? This is
exacerbated by the fact that your characters discuss and engage in talks about destroying the Batarian relay.
2. Why did you think it was a good idea to go about before launch and say there are 16 different endings based on our major choices throughout the 3 games and then end it with 3 choices only differentiated by color?
1. Who thought it'd be a good idea to show Joker fleeing the battle from earth (character assassination) through relays that have exploded only to land on a planet and have the people who were on the ground with you whom were surrounded and cut off from support somehow exit the ship with joker on a perfectly habitable world in the middle of nowhere milky way galaxy which is like playing the lottery (in terms of odds of probability)?

And a final question from me personally

What on earth ever gave you the idea that doing the above would be okay and without consequence?

i want to start my thang off by saying this... hi:P

but seriously, i loved this game, and of course i still do, even with the ending. i don't care. it was the adventure that took me there that counted. im proud of you guys bioware. truly am. but if there is anything lacking... well i hate saying it but it the armor customization was lacking for me. i do love my n7 defender armor, but i hate how you have to wear a helmet that doesnt even go witht the armor, nor can you customize the armor. i was really hoping to customize the armor to make it look like james vega's armor. besides defender armor, i was also praying for kaidans armor as well. its pretty F***ing awesome and the "racing" stripes are just absolutly perfect. i was hoping for these armors the way the characters have it, but i was... severly... disappointed. i know it would be weird to have a squadmates armor, but in all of my profiles kaidan has always been KIA... its a small, dumb, insignifigant request, but if the community, or i, can have this... i would truly appreciate it.

Well, I'll be honest.  I've been following this thread since the time it went up, (as evidenced by the poorly formatted post on page one) The die is probably cast at this point, and I've pretty much got the feeling that a good bit of us are feeling like Tom Hanks at the end of Saving Private Ryan, firing a pistol at a tank.

I pretty much rallied around the idea of a fourth option, simply the rejection of the catalysts premise as outlined below.

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/355/index/10349127

Since the overwhelming feeling from the press comments directed at the ending change seem to indicate that the three options available to us now are the only ones we're going to have,  I guess the best I can possibly hope for is that the existing options are modified in the following way:

1.) Destroy
- Destroys the reapers, the geth, and the mass relays.  Shepard lives explicitly  (HOWEVER, the God Child needs to tell Shepard that it will kill him as well)And by Shepard lives, I mean you actually see Shepard get up, you have your cut scene with your remainingalive squad mates in a way similar to the end of ME1.  No dialogue necessary, just an acknowledgement that Shepard is Alive and some of thesquad is as well.  (I would suggest variations on the cut scene to account for all possible persons that could be alive, the cut scenes would all be superficially the same with camera pans and scans, but you could actually see people based on whether or not they were alive.)

2.)Synthesis -
Does pretty much the same thing, fuses all life together with space magic, leaves the citadel and the mass relays intact.  Shepard dies.Leaving the relays in tact is key here.  This now givesan option where you can choose to sacrifice Shepard and maintain the current galactic travel situation.  Having this ending kill Shepard as
it does now is necessary to give it some narrative balance.(Cut the Joker nonsense from the existing cutscene and don't blow up the relays, and give some sort of epilouge cut scene for all the other characters)

3.) Control-
Allows Shepard to make a Faustian Bargin with the Reapers.  Earth is saved.  The mass relays and the citadel stay.  In exchange the reapers get to reap all the other aliens of this cycle, and will then go back to
dark space afterwards. Shepard dies. (Exception - If you have max renegade points Shepard lives)
While most people aren't death incarnate, there were always the ones who were really disappointed that
you couldn't spend the game working for the Illusive Man.  Not only that, if you don't have enough War Assets your only options become Control or Destroy.........Destroy the mass relays and save everyone, or
Control the reapers and get the mass relays for Earth and Earth alone?(Changethe cut scene and have the reapers go a reaping, if Shepard managed to live have him sitting in the catalysts room in the Illusive Man's chair
watching a dying star or somesuch.  Hell throw in your LI if they're human)

----------------------

I don't know how much Bioware actually understands that in absense of a 4th option of rejecting the premise, how much they actually need to at the very least revisit the dialouge of their existing options.

Yes epilouge scenes and varying cinimatics are nice, but even keeping with the exact three options you have there there still needs to be dialogue making them more distinct in the lead up to the decision.

Like I said, I expect the die has been cast, and sticking with just the three options presented originally is in my opinion a mistake.  But if you're dead set on ignoring 2.9 games of Shepard defiance, you could at the very least try to make the options we're stuck with not so abjectly poor.

And maybe I'm off base, maybe there actually is plan for actual dialogue changes, but from what we've been told so far, it does seem like a lot to hope for.

they are not doing anything about the game anymore so let them rot with their explanations and artistic license bull ****
