Suggested feedback for what SHOULD have been done for the ending DLC rather than this proposed "Extended Cut"?

This post (taken from this document) explains it all.  Really. There is no simpler explanation. Basically all fans ever asked for was an ending that was not filled with hideous writing and plagued with so many holes and inconsistencies with facts established throughout the rest of the series.

BioWare was given a bone when Indoctrination Theory was suggested to solve these hideous inconsistencies. That the writers/project leads failed to recognise this and take this option isn't a triumph of "artistic integrity" - it's a triumph of stupidity.

Reassurances that BioWare "are listening" are pointless when there appears to be a refusal to do anything to address the litany of valid criticisms levelled at the truly awful ending of what was up to this point a groundbreaking series.

When you make your ending DLC, make an addition to the Option Menu to choose between "Original" or "Extended" or "Alternate" (I can dream, can't I?) That way it's easy to select at various points of gameplay, and it won't interrupt the narrative.

Ok. Here is a list of things I'd like to see assuming a new ending without the 'star child' is impossible.

They are mostly closure related suggestions and points that satisfy the gameplay accross all three games not just the last.

Shepard and love interest. I want to know what happens, where are my blue children? I'd like to walk around our house that has photos of all the places I've been with datapad like pop ups of the choices I've made throughout the series. Like a musium of the choices I've made and their impact. Cheesy? Yes. don't care. imposible i know, but still worth a mention.

The fait of my companions and crew mates that are left alive. we didn't fight for nothing - i want a bit of happyendingness.

explaination of what the plan is now the mass relays have been destroyed. Is anyone left to rebuild? is it back to basics?

miranda and her sister together? a funeral for kelly chambers. jacob settling down with partner and helping rebuild. cerberus disbanding now the illusive man is dead and turning their skills to helping people researching what the hell happened.

what does being half synthetic mean anyway? do have to eat anymore? or can people just plug themselves up to the mains now? has everyone now been given this mixed organic/ synthetic ability which is the next evolutionary step and means they no longer need the mass relays because they can tranport themselves?

considering the falling snow, moonlit sequence at the end - are we to assume that it was all a story? that liara's box was found generations later, is it present time, future, past? could be clarified.

how did the war assets come together and what impact did they have. Was there any point in saving the Rachni queen i want to see her and her minions fighting. I was expecting more epic battle scenes accross the galaxy during the closing sequences - whats there is great but, more fighting and resistance from all the races we've encountered, Drell, Hanar, Volus etc.

and it NEEDS to be interactive - and preferably with choices. I need to PLAY the ending. It needs to invest in my thoughts as much as I've invested my thoughts in it! if that makes sense?

hope you're listening. If so thanks.

One other thing:

Feel very free to keep your original ending, Bioware.

But please, for the love of all things, an ALTERNATE ending would be absolutely ideal for all parties involved.

That, and flesh the damned thing out. Offer more variables, more visual representations of choices made and their consequences playing out.

For a trilogy that's been made up to be all about choice and showing the player the consequences of their actions, we see no consequence at the end of the journey.

At the end would have been nice to say goodbye to Sheps mum as well....even if we could see her...I liked that she was included...if Shep knew she would not make it back..she would have wanted a litle chat with her mother

An another suggestion: Unlimited save slots for PC
Unlike consoles, PC doesn't have a problem with keeping as many as possible saves (disk space, etc.). I like to return to play different parts, not necessary in the order begin->middle->end, so its actual design made me often to do Alt+Tab to move older save files to a back-up folder.

I just found out how important saving or destroying the Collector Base was to the end of ME3. It made me both impressed (Consequences! Serious consequences!) and sad because the way it was implemented made it impossible to tell it was actually important. Anything over the lowest EMS and you'll never notice it at all.

When you re-do the ending in the Extended Cut, would you consider it doing it like the conversation with Wrex on Virmire, where you only had a limited amount of time to talk him down before Ashley shot him? Get to the Crucible and have the Star Child offer Shepard destruction or control right off, depending on how it went with the Collector Base, and then you have to argue or bargain your way to the other options. It's already the case that if you wait too long to chose the Crucible's destroyed, so make it so that the higher the EMS you have, the longer your forces have to defend you, so the longer you can bargain with the Star Child.

And, please, if the player decides to take the fourth option and chooses none-of-the-above, let that count as a proper ending that gets a NewGamePlus save. Why did you do that beautiful scene with Liara and her time-capsule plan if you weren't going to make it matter later?

Basically i want to see war assets and companion represented better. I dunno you see Zaeed taking out a squad single handed, Balak leading the batarian fleet, just stuff to show you that the various allies you've assembled are there helping and make the final mission not feel like you're getting ground into paste regardless of how high your EMS was.

i got abit carried away in a previous post in regards to the Announcement of the Extended cut, i know its not out yet and theres along haul ahead until its released.  BUT i have another idea.

If the extended cut isn't satisfactory, then work on a new boss battle or something without star child, indoctrination theory is golden!  release the extended cut, give us hope for a good ending (again i for one NEED a happy ending) then work on subsequent DLC packs most of note for single player!!!!  then when you get to the "Arrival'esk" DLC (time line wise... you know the LAST DLC)  add onto the extended cut to complete the experience!  If they aren't adding an Out right happy ending for players who've earned it, (or only provide hints at one) This could be the chance to added it later, with substantially more thought including the other ME3 Campaign mode DLC.

IF ANYONE HAS TO DIE, you might as well let it be Javik!  Give him the chance to Complete his vengance with a BANG/FIZZLE/ or whatever that death would ensue!  This isn't his galaxy, this isn't his time!  his soul purpose is Revenge!

When shep "dies", why are Liara shown in every flashback? Seems strange when my Love interest was Tali and the flashback was Liara.

Mass effect 3 is a MASTERPIECE that gets overshadowed by the terrible ending

there are some problems:

1. Fix the ending( it should have been 16 outcomes, as bioware said)
2. Rachni should have a bigger role than appear as 100 war asset.( like fleet or an Army)
3. Epic boss battle against harbinger
4. The mystics about the reapers should have been kept.
5. more live combat mission to either volus, elcor, hanar, drell or baterians.
6. Romance options from ME2 didn´t get to much attention, ME3 focused to much on romances from ME1. For example Tali came into the game to late should at least have more conversation and moments. Then the so called consequenses weren´t there if you romanced someone else.
7. the entire Gameplay felt short( Finished in 27 hours)
8 Visiting old places like ilum, omega or feros and so on wern´t there.

Okay here are my suggestions for the extended cut.

The best to go would be IT because I seriously don't think you can clean this thing up enough without removing the godchild. A simple clean ending would have been preferable. But okay I'll bite so if everything that is there has to stay...

The ending needs some focus, it's all over the place with new concepts and story lines, but most importantly it drops the ball on characters. The absolute best moments in ME3 and the rest of the series is centered around characters. Wrex, Mordin and Eve on Tuchanka, Tali and Legion on the quarian homeworld. In the end the only good part is actually the part with Anderson and TIM where you actually are interacting with some long time characters with which you have a long time relation with through the game. It works, it's not perfect but it works as is. Actually if you had stopped there it would have been great, Catalyst fires, Reaper dead, depending on your EMS you could sit there and die with Anderson or if high enough your team mates could come to the rescue at the last minute. Simple, emotional, put some epilogues in and show what happens to the fleet, done, 90 percent of people happy. The epilogues can leave plenty of room for speculation.

Now how to put character focus back with the god child. I am honestly not sure how it can be done satisfyingly. Short of actually bringing the squad up with you, so they can actually advise on the choice and deliver heartbreaking goodbyes. Anyways, I guess the best you can do with the most endings is put up some epilogues. Not very satisfying but well, when pushed into a corner...

So talking about characters, what happened to the squad you took with you? There's really only two options in the current context, they ran away or they died. I actually prefer the they died option because it is in character for most of them. Even with Shepard down there is no way that they would run away, this was a one way mission, they would make a run for the beam and try and finish things. I seriously have no idea how to get this one solved without removing the sequence with the Normandy flying away. I guess in the red one (color coded endings? Seriously?) with high EMS they could be flying away with Shepard on it. On other options you could show them look at the Reapers fly away and go to the ship, but then that doesn't fit into the timeline with them flying away from the shockwave. Sorry I'm out of ideas on that one. I however think it is essential to fix that because it has to do with the characters and their integrity.

As for the 3 choices in the ending:
Green: What happened? Did I just create the borg? Seems to me the reapers still have giant lasers and just becoming green wouldn't transform them into peace loving hippies. Also just because you have a pseudo common race doesn't mean you get along. How does that prevent anyone from creating new AIs and have them destroy all the green people? Also this seems so in contradiction with the entire theme of ME3 of uniting different races and drawing strength from each other. Now we are just all the same, which seems to me more like ethnic cleansing. Please explain how this works in more than a single sentence from the god child because in order to speculate on it you need to at least setup some frame of logic within which to discuss.

Blue: Well okay this one might be fairly cut and dry, and might even count as the victory for the Reapers (yes I think it should be possible for the reapers to win). Although Shepard dying doesn't make much sense, he should somehow be shown in an Avatar state or something where he is either controlled by the Reapers or is himself controlling them (EMS?). If he dies who is controlling the reapers now? Seems like they are sentient so what prevents them from just starting all over again? Also reproduction in this scenario, problematic, you just know the Internet will soon have Reaper on Asari porn.

Red: This seems to me like the logical choice and in my opinion should just have happened right after Shepard opens the Citadel. Although I do not understand how it can destroy all cybernetics. There's a certain scientific consistency within the universe and this part makes no sense. It seems to say that even the implants in Shepard's body will stop functioning. Which seems to kill the Quarians too and actually to me implies that all electronics will somehow blow up. I mean how can it be that selective short or magic? Also you do survive with a high enough EMS, so the godchild lied? I mean what is going on? He lied about that he might as well have lied about everything else. He could also simply be wrong, but not much better, then he could be wrong about everything else too. It's just too much, you can basically not trust anything in the end, you do not have a basic frame of logic to make any educated speculation. I think a reasonable way out is to assume that the godchild lied because he did not want Shepard to choose this as it would destroy his "solution". Showing some Geth and EDI would make that clear and would shine an interesting light on the godchild. Make for better boundaries from within which to speculate about his intentions.

Lastly, somehow the Normandy crash scene needs to be completed. Someone needs to come pick them up or something. Because I do not relish the thought of Tali and Garus dying of starvation since they can't eat the food on the planet (although I guess an alternative is that everybody can't eat the food and dies). As stated earlier of course, explain how that ever happened to start with, the logical implications are just too out of character. Reunification with the crew in the Red ending being possible, I would personally really like to see it. The endings went from bleak to even more bleak, which is in sharp contrast with the rest of the game and the other games. I did not play 3 games to end alone in a pile of ruble without any of the characters I cared for in the 100+ hours of play I've had.

So generally focus, give us something that actually tidies all the threads a bit. Right now it is such a mess that anything from IT, to the dark ages, to ponies and rainbows in the skies can be inferred from the ending. That just too much, need to narrow down the scope so that there is actually a frame of reference for people to talk about. Good endings, like the one in the Blade Runner movie or Inception, give you something to talk about but the actual ending does not change according to interpretation just the perspective on it. Here I don't know what the ending is so I can't form a perspective on it.

Okay I guess it turned as much into a rant as giving ideas for the extended cut. I hope it helps understand the frustration though. I do not thing the artistic integrity of Mass Effect was respected in the ending of the game. It went away from pretty much everything that the series has stood for so far, so I think the argument about artistic integrity is mute. But okay let's see what comes out next Summer.

Extended cut...let's see.
I think it would be amazing if we pick the Destroy Ending, we get to go on the planet the Normandy crashed on and save the crew. This would be the perfect opportunity to use the remaining ME2 squadmates. This would be a great gameplay section and we should get to pick two ME2 squadmates to take with us on the mission. I think a lot of people would love that.
Also, if Shepard is able to survive the Destroy ending with enough EMS, I think it would be great if EDI and the Geth would get to survive as well with enough EMS. It sucks having to pick between Shepard surviving and EDI and the Geth. So if Shepard can survive with enough EMS, why can't EDI and the Geth?
Oh, and the EMS system needs to be changed. Currently, we can't get enough EMS for the Shepard survives Destroy ending without having to play Multiplayer. This is extremely flawed, not only because we are forged to play multiplayer, but also because one day the multiplayer servers will be shut down, that always happens because of the costs of keeping them up, so when that happens, it will be impossible to get that ending. Please consider lowering the score needed to get the Shepard Survives ending.

the only ending that could have a happy ending would be the destroy ending where shepard takes a breath so if thee extended cut could be with shepard surviving in the destroy ending and finding a way back to his or her crew and actually get to be with his or her love interest that would be cool still wish that we could see the blue children or that house on talis homeworld but I guess we can dream can't we....

Even if we forget the flawed logic in Catalyst's argument about synthetics wanting to always destroy all organics
and the space magic bs that is the crucible. Why would any sane person trust the choices given by a being that
creates the reapers to massacre trillions of intelligent organics in the most perverse and sadistic way possible.
How are we supposed to believe Shep would take this beings advice at face value? Harvesting them and turning them
into reapers is one thing but turning them into mindless abominations, like husks, cannibals, collectors etc ,first
that slaughter their own kind is the worst kind of evil. Its the difference between putting down an animal
painlessly and harvesting its dna to preserve the genetic diversity of the species or turning it into a rabid
animal first that slaughters its own family and neighbours and then sticking it alive in a blender to harvest its
dna.
If the reapers have the power to indoctrinate why not simply make the populations walk into harvesting machines
and turn them into more reapers? Surely that is a much simpler, easier and logical way to harvest and you can make
them destroy all their technology, history, buildings first so nothing is left for the next cycle to find. The
reapers just need to seed the galaxy with thousands of machines like object rho and wait. A slow indoctrination
without a long battle with the reapers doesn't leave scarred planets, nearly dead reapers, ruins, beacons, conduits
etc for the next cycle to find.
It has been made clear that the extended cut dlc will not change the ending, which I have to assume means the
godchild stays and his perverse logic, then at the very least some dialogue where Shep questions this sadistic
little creeps logic has to be included or our connection with Shep as a hero with a brain will be lost. Some
explaination why godchild chose to make the reapers so sadistic and illogical as I have explained above is also
needed. Then there is the problem that is ME1, if the catalyst controls the reapers and is part of the citadel why
didn't he open the citadel relay? Why are the keepers needed to be signalled at all to open the relay why can't
catalyst do it? Come to think of it why is he called catalyst? Did he create the crucible and play a game with
each cycle to see if they can create it before they are all killed by the Reapers? The more you think about
this the more plotholes occur.. why didn't the Reapers shut down the relays when they took the Citadel rendering
your fleet and crucible useless as it would take too long to reach Earth at FTL speeds?.. There are many more
explained better than I can in the hundreds of forum pages. I hope some one can see at BW that this artistic ending
has created an avalanche of plotholes that has buried the credibility of the entire Mass Effect universe. If they
can fix/explain all the plotholes with some cinematics and epilogue then we are not worthy to critisise their
artistic vision. If they cannot then why did they ruin this popular franchise for many loyal fans, and by their poor PR handling of a bad ending ****** so many of us off as well instead of just admitting their mistake and saying we are going to fix it? As a fan of the ME universe and games I hope EA/BW can pull off a miracle worthy of Shep.

(ps Indoctrination theory although by no means a perfect solution explains most of the major plotholes and is one I hope BW goes with unless they can think of a better way out of this mess)

GIven that the original endings look like they're going to stay, and we're getting no more of them, my suggestion would be to provide opportunities for Shepard to definitively survive and be reunited with LI.

If we can't have an ending that makes sense, we should at least have a shot at upbeat endings

If that God child stays:

Please give us an option to flip him off, to tell him about the geth / EDI, or just an option to shoot him at the DAMN FACE for being the galaxy's largest moron (yep, he beats Wheatley from P2, but instead of being loveable, he is only rageable with his abysmally stupid logic.)

If you are going to keep the current ending as it is, please at least let us live and reunite with our crew (maybe extra scene (make it long :P) with our LI). I don't give a rat's ass if I maybe have to sacrifice more of the galaxy to end up to that outcome, on the level we already doomed it, a little more doesn't matter anymore.

If you can't update the ending to make sense on any level, please at least make it uplifting, remember how extremely uplifting the ending of me2 was even if you lost a lot of people? That was great. Sigh. It really was.

Oh well, at least you guys are taking some time to do the extended cuts.
I just hope I can still play this franchise after summer without feeling all dead inside.

Good luck.

P.S.
About flipping someone off, I truly hope that you guys will do it to EA at some point and you'll end up buying your freedom.. Like Bungie did to Microsoft.
I don't know what they have done to you, if anything.. But I think you guys would be better off without them in all honestly.

Well, this actually has nothing to do with the endings. Lol! But it is somethinng I want to give feedback on for possible new titles in the ME franchise.

The romance in ME3 between Kaidan (VS) and FemShep. The actual love scene was spot on! I gotta give it to you, you guys nailed it (pun intended). For me, it was just the right balance between sizzle and romantic. It was better than ME1. Especially after they were done. No more of that Kaidan waking up and there's FemShep fully clothed standing there watching him like a creeper.

Please keep that type of love scene as a template for the future. It was pitch perfect.

Minus, of course, the Kaidan rape face when they were drinking and talking abt. the first time they bunked together:

https://encrypted-tb...xcbnjXzcCHUJmxk

And I thought there was a good progression of the romance in the game. Although, FemShep and Kaidan had issues to work thru.

One of the things I would like to see in future games in regards to the romances, (If there are any more...I hope there are. I also hope that a Straight Female PC will have more romance options! Sheesh.) is a DA:O type of progression.

The romance in DA:O with Alistair was one of the best romances, imo. It grew very well throughout the game. Small flirtations that led to more. And if your Warden moved on Alistair too quickly, he actually turned you down..Denied!. Lol.

But I liked that type of progression. I really enjoyed being able to kiss him whenever I wanted. Even while on a quest.

In fact, I really enjoyed the mini-mini cut scenes whenever you clicked on a character to talk.

The dialogue may have been exhausted, but I could See their face. In ME3 it seemed most of the time the NPC's had their back to me. I couldn't see their faces when trying to talk to them. The big red circle really didn't help, either.

Maybe put some talk icon Over their heads in the future? The red circle blocking their faces bugged the hell outta me. And I just don't care for the clicky-clicky, DLC dialogue type of convo.'s. Just...no.

So, in the future I hope BW/ME team combines the awesome love scene like ME3 w/the VS, with a DA:O type of romantic progression and in game interaction.

And please! mini dialogue cut scenes. I beg of you.

That is all.

Right now it is completely impossible to hit 4000 EMS without playing multiplayer. Why would you design the game such that people without internet can't get the best ending?

I'd like decisions I'd made throughout the game(s) to have some bearing on the end.

ME1 built up gradually to an exciting and logical ending. ME2, likewise. Events in ME1 had a bearing on ME2. I have replayed both games 4 or 5 times - at least - developing different scenarios to carry through to the end of the trilogy, with the intention of playing out all scenarios.

Then came ME3.

I loved the game right up until the last 10 mins, when all decisions and choices I had made became irrelevant. I was forced down a single path - yes, with 3 different coloured explosions. More depressingly, it left me with no desire at all to replay the game, great though it is... up until the end. For example, why should it be that if I dilligently fill the green bar up to maximum, way above the minimum requirement, that I'm treated to basically the same ending? What's my incentive to replay the game?

I love Bioware games but I feel greatly let down by this one.

There's a couple things wrong, scratch that, lot's of things wrong with the ending. First off, Cortez was shot down during the initial strike by Hammer, so by the end how the hell did the Normandy Crew get aboard the Normandy?
For the Normandy escaping the scene why did they have to? If the explosion doesn't kill or is a controlled explosion then why did Normandy start blowing up in while running away from it?
And here's another part of this plot hole, why is it that the fleet didn't decide to do this? Run away I mean. It makes no sense... Or perhaps they did and the same happened to them: get blown up by the so called controlled explosion of the Citadel, or Catalyst, whatever...
Also, we saw Shepard get hit on his right shoulder, but when he sits down with Anderson he clutches his left gut, the same place Anderson was shot at?
Why hasn't the Illusive Man simply used the catalyst? How did he even get to the citadel? With the way the ending is now, it makes it look like IM was waiting for them. Which would support the indoctrination theory, but if these are the real endings as the EC DLC are making out to be, then this is an inconsistency on BioWare's part.
Also, I'd like to remind everyone there was an AI on the Citadel in ME1, this AI was crazy and about to self detonate on Shepard. If I remember correctly it specifically said that organics were doomed to either control or destroy synthetics.
Though now I see the ending as it is, this AI makes me believe these endings were really how they were meant to be, but the delivery was just really bad. Though I still want an epilogue and new ending, preferably, one with Shepard having babies with Liara, or kissing Tali's unmasked face, I really just want these plot holes to be filled in a satisfying way .
