I'm just going to post again, as I am a tad disheartened as to the whole ending fiasco both with certain "vocal fans" and the ending we received. I flat out loved ME3 and regard it as the best, however the ending did not sit right with me. For years I looked forward to the closure that should have come with the ending; seeing my hero victoriously defeat Harbinger and the Reapers, seeing Shep in the arms of the LI I was emotionally invested in for years (Ash for me), getting to say that last goodbye to each squadmate outside of battle, and being able to see every little war asset bit included in the final fight against the Reapers. I guess for the longest time I had believed the premise of ME was to serve as a space opera in which diversity brought us together and it was diversity that had saved us; seen all the way clear to the ending until you either wipe out EDI and all synthetics including the Geth I just saved and made peace with the Quarians, or I'm forced to homoginize all the species in the universe because I say so which completely felt foreign of Shepard. It felt out of place. I just would like answers. I feel like a lot was left unsaid to a truly epic game. I want to thank the entire staff for the exemplary game, but please, give us answers and give us closure to a series we love with this Extended Cut. We didn't deserve the ending screen urging us to purchase more DLC, as you didn't have to urge me as I already knew I would. I would recommend doing what Bungie did for the end of Halo 3 where they thanked the fans and they praised the series, I think it would help others undergo a change of heart. But mostly, please just let me know what happens to these characters who have become like friends to me. Once again, thanks for the amazing times and the spectacular series. I look forward to what you have to offer in the future.

I know it was posted I just did not want to create pyramid...

I totally agree with that video, it is exactly how I feel about ending...no dialogue with starchild, no logic, large plot holes, everyone dies in long term and three options that make no sense...

Apart from the ending, I have three suggestions that will help me to enjoy Mass Effect 3 more.
1. Journal that tracks quest progress. I had to play with a sheet of paper and write down all the side quests items I found, so that I will not waste fuel and time on going to the same planet again and scan for things I already have.
2. Adjustable FOV option. I would love to play with FOV set on 90 or 95 instead of 70. I play on xbox360 because my pc can't handle ME3, so I'm unable to use mods that let you change FOV. My Shepard is too close to the screen and it bothers me, I have to convince myself that it is not that bad. If there would be an option to set FOV higher that 70 it would be real improvement to the experience in my opinion.
3. Option for weapon holstering. I used that feature a lot in previous ME games, and it let me feel that gameplay isn't only about shooting stuff, but let me have this exploration feel. Environments are atmospheric and epic and I would really like to just stand there for coupple seconds and gasp watching the world around me, just like Shepard at the beginning when he and Anderson are getting out of the building and Shepard stands there silent for seconds and just watches the attatck, and then the gameplay starts. I had moments like this in previous games, and these moments are memorable for me; when I put my weapons back, and just stand, watching the sky and thinking about galaxy, my role in this, and stuff like that (or just admire the view) for a moment, and then move on with the mission. I could do it without looking at the sky through the barrel of my gun. Right now I can't. It takes away the exploration feel, which I enjoyed a lot. It is a detail, but details like this made ME great for me. Plus being able to rotate camera around my character is a cool thing and I miss it too. I understand that there are people who doesn't care about weapon holstering, so you could make it as an option, for example in controller layout, so that people could choose if the want back button to be quicksave or holstering. Dear Santa, please. I meant - Bioware.

Synthesis. It's garbage. It's Mac Walters and Casey Hudson losing sight of the fact that, by their own universe's rules, the Crucible cannot do what it does.

Dark energy has the two clearly defined primary properties of affecting mass and inertia. As a secondary side effect, dark energy has an effect on gravity.

The Crucible is effectively a giant dark energy capacitor, and the Citadel is the focusing lens.

Dark energy cannot transmute matter. It cannot turn organic cells into metallic elements. Therefore, the Crucible cannot turn organic cells into metallic elements. Therefore, Synthesis is impossible.

Even if we handwave that away, there's more problems. Organizing circuitry in an organic body requires physics-breaking impossibilities like knowing where and how fast sub-atomic particles are moving *at the same time*. It requires literal omniscience, literally knowing *everything* about the galaxy, to decide what is organic and what is synthetic, transmute and organize atoms into functional circuitry in organic beings, decide on and implement organic elements in purely synthetic platforms, and do so in a fraction of time that is by necessity immeasurably small as the wave propagates.

Let's not forget the local release of radiation that accompanies changing atoms of one element into atoms of another element. Instant cancer for all organic life.

Again, Synthesis is impossible.

The ONLY way to explain it is "It's magic." And this isn't a "wizards in space" kind of game, it's military space opera with very strong science fiction influences. And in that genre, with a solid grounding in physics, Synthesis is impossible.

Remove Synthesis from the possible endings. Remove it completely. It does not belong in Mass Effect.

The 'Catalyst Reaper AI godchild' is an unreliable narrator. We get that. We get that it's trying to push Shepard away from destroying its pet Reapers and into commiting suicide.

However, it absolutely needs to be *shown* that it is an unreliable narrator. Shepard's meek acceptance of everything the little ***t says is a signal to the player that it's supposed to be a reliable source of information.

CHANGE THAT. If you're really dedicated to keeping the little ***t, make it clear by dialog that it is unreliable. Shepard *must* challenge its assumptions and its statements.

I needed to get a different ending to the next guy, diverse end expanding options, such customisation to our personal ME experience - all games included - not just multicoloured "baysplosions"... Include them if you must, incorporate the IT (ugh) for a choice, and add something for everybody do that we get a "perfect run" that is almost personalised to us, the fan

Me3 need more from you bioware. You made this game, we loved it, now, more than ever, you have to show that you are here for the fans that will stick by you, and by your games, and not just play it, sell it for used copy market and move on to the next one. Bioware!! WE ARE STILL HERE!

My 2 cents: Will not repeat all the other comments but many offer good ideas. I am profoundly disappointed with the ending. The idea all along through ME 1 and 2 was that our decisions mattered to the outcome in ME3. No they didn't--because I got essentially one ending shoved down my throat with a choice of blue, green, or red explosions. That is what I'm dissapointed in--its a fate acompli. Really, nothing I did will fundamentally change the outcome. You guys created a epic masterpiece with this series and in the last 5-10 minutes, painted a moustache on the Mona Lisa with a sloppy finish. I will say that the scene with Anderson was brilliant. It deteriorated from there. The god-child thing was ridiculous. The logic of "I created synthetics to kill all organics so they won't war with synthetics" thing is just sideways. Why is Joker and the Normandy trying to out-race the explosion? Does the entire fleet of all the races get wiped out? If not, they are all in orbit over a dead earth with no way home since the mass relays are all blown up. And why is my L I hopping off the Normandy with Joker when I just left her on the planet in London. See all the disconnects? There needs to be closure--who on our team made it--or didn't. We should at the very least have a spectrum of success/failure in the endings that include Shepard lives/reapers die, Shepard dies/reapers die, Shepard lives/squad members die/reapers die, and a reapers win scenario all dependent on our decisions. I hope you at Bioware and EA take this to heart and get it right with the DLC. The whole concept of decisions really matter in games was brilliant. It's I think the essence of why ME and DAO were so successful. We get "involved" with the personalities and characters of the game. Your ending lost sight of that premise.

Question: why are the developers / Bioware gathering fan ideas?

Is this for another DLC that will somehow make the experience of ME3 better?
Will the ME3 game be changed in any way?
Is there a ME4 on the cards (how would that even be possible??)

And if any of these are in fact on the cards how will the fans get there hands on it?
Is this a case of 'tell us how to fix our product so that we can charge you for the fix' ?

My Feedback and Whishlist:

I am all in on the whole "change-the-ending" ****storm Bioware is getting but besides that I also have some other change suggestions....

- Please alter the uniforms of C-Sec so they are different from the Alliance uniforms.
- Please give NPCs some more Headgear to use. (C-Sec and Soldiers - Berrets, helmets etc.)
- Please give the two marines who come aboard the Normandy along with Hackett rifles instead of sidearms.
- Please release some Armors sets for Shepard that looks more military and less like a race driver. Like Andersons uniform or Vegas armor.
These are my minor requests besides the ending. Please change this because this wouldn't be too hard (All assets are created and just need to be rearanged) and it would give the game a push to be more real....

PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE........Christmas is coming so show a heart BioWare

DLC-Suggestions
- Please make a DLC where we can take back OMEGA
- Please make a DLC that shows the fight for Arcturus station
- Please make a DLC that gives us at least one new station to harbour (I like the Citadel but I would like to have another base with people on it, shops, etc...)
- Please make a DLC were you experience the ugly face of war (whatever that means -> You know, more dirty and nasty stuff, black markets, suffering soldiers, frontline experience)
- Please make a DLC with some more and unique Side missions (Like in ME2)
- Please make a DLC with Vehicles (Yes plural.....I want the Mako and the Hoover-Tank)
- Please make a DLC where I can see the building-site of the Cruicible (possible Arcturus station) and where I can walk on another Alliance ship (Like the Harbinger in KOTOR 2)
- Please make a DLC with a strategic minigame to put my War Assets to use.
- Please make a DLC where I can choose a group of 4-5 random soldiers on away team missions exchange for one hench.

I already payed about 90 EUR (app.110 USD) for my ME3 CE + DLC and additional Stuff)
Gladly I will hand over another 90 EUR FOR MY COMPLETE WISHLIST!!! (But the ending DLC should be for free)

I can see the Dollar signs in Casey Hudson's and John Riccitiello's eyes.
So please Santa I believe in you. MERRY CHRISTMAS

I dont think I could pay for a game where the main character I built over 3 games would be replaced by someone else. That new "someone" else would stand a chance at being killed off in the same way as shepard. ME wasnt meant to be a railroad but that is what we got. I will never trust bioware with my money again if they dont correct this.

There are a lot of people who have made some brilliant points and I'd like to add to, what I'm sure has turned up again and again. The removal of the Catalyst Star-Child.

This character provides too many questions than answers and also has no real build-up and simply appears at the end and confuses us with his "logic". To have the Citadel as the catalyst was fine on it's own and there was no need for the twist reveal of a new character. Shepard has no more reason to believe him than Luke has to beleieve that the Emperor is his better. War assets and gameplay through out the series must be vital for the game's outcome and closure.

If Shepard HAS to die, fine, it's very Arthurian, but I would like to know that the bitter-sweet is more "everything will be ok/uncertain, but right now, we're free as are our children and our children's children. Thanks to Shepard"

Something like that.

I posted earlier in this thread, but this is an addendum to that.

Are you, as developers and publishers content that Mass Effect is going to go down as a punchline?

Because that's what it will be remembered as, sadly.

I mean, it already is a punchline (new memes and all that), but that's it's legacy.  Sure, there are those that are satisfied with the ending, but I don't know of anyone who professed any sort of love for it, like people have for Baldur's Gate, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Dragon Age, and the Mass Effects before the third installment.

But now, and the future, Mass Effect will be remembered by most as a punchline, because while there's no evidence of people loving it, there sure is evidence of people hating it, and they are not going to let people forget.  The outcry was enough to make mainstream, non-gaming media, and for all future games with "bad endings", the question will be asked "Was it as bad as Mass Effect's?" or the statement will be made, "The ending is bad, but not as bad as Mass Effect's was."

Are you guys at Bioware happy with that legacy?

For what it's worth this is a proposed endgame put together based on numerous great ideas from the forums. I believe this is much more satisfying, removes plot holes and makes your decisions matter a whole lot more without completely changing the last mission. Like I said this is based off ideas from other posters so I claim no credit.

To start we obviously need to see more of our war assets in action. During the fight through no-mans land there should be cutscenes depicting Asari commando's setting up biotic shields, krogan fighting rachni, geths working alongside quarians etc.

Once we reach the beam and Harbinger arrives this is where the new ending would come into play.

1)  Shepard's team charges towards the beam but they are blasted by Harbinger.
2)  Anderson picks up a shellshocked Shepard and they continue towards the beam.
3)  The two squad mates are already there and hold off Reaper forces whilst Shepard and Anderson enter the Citadel.
4)  Inside they find Illusive Man who is attempting to control the Reapers.
5)  TIM uses his new powers to make Shepard wound Anderson.

 a) If collector base saved:         TIM is too strong and Shepard is made to finish off Anderson.
Shepard forced to watch as TIM attempts to control the Reapers.
It fails and he dies, breaking the hold over Shepard.
 B) If collector base destroyed:   Shepard resists TIM and spares Anderson.
A wounded Anderson shoots TIM in the side, breaking the hold over Shepard.
Shepard can shoot TIM or talk him into suicide.
Shepard and Anderson share their final conversation.

6)  Shepard opens the Citadel and Hackett docks the crucible.
7)  Harbinger takes over TIM's corpse and tries to convince Shepard that resistance is futile.
8)  Shepard must fight off an indoctrination attempt in his dream (by shooting the kid? mwahaha)
9)  Shepard resists and at this point can learn the reason why the Reapers are attacking.
(Or not if the mystery works better.)

 a) Harbinger explains that as organic life grows so do the levels of dark energy. These energy levels are causing the
galaxy to die as evidenced by the sun on Haestrum. The Reapers cull organic life to keep the energy levels safe
and preserve the harvested genetic material within themselves. By resisting the Reapers Shepard is actually
     dooming the entire galaxy.
 B) New game plus mode would reveal the real reason. The Reapers are the ones causing the rise in dark energy.
They have been trying to solve the problem by harvesting organics and using the genetic material to adapt their
own evolution. The only way to stop dark energy levels rising is to destroy the Reapers.

10) The Normandy has landed at the base of the Citadel beam and is dropping off the rest of the squad as
       reinforcements.
11) Harbinger offers to spare Shepard's squad and Earth until the next cycle if they give up now.

  a) Shepard agrees so the Reapers leave Earth and harvest the rest of the galaxy before heading back to dark
      space. The End.

  B) Shepard refuses so Harbinger attacks the Normandy. Squad mates could die based on previous choices.

12) Shepard prepares the Crucible to fire which will destroy all Reaper technology.
13) Harbinger leaves Earth and heads towards the Citadel. The allied fleet attempts to hold him off.

  a) 25% EMS:   Fleet fails to slow down Harbinger who reaches the Crucible and destroys it. The entire galaxy falls to
                          the Reapers. The End.
  B) 50% EMS:   Fleet struggles to hold off Harbinger. Hackett is forced to activate the Crucible early in an unsafe
state. The blast kills the Reapers but also Hackett, Shepard and badly damages Earth. The End.
  c) 75% EMS:   Fleet holds off Harbinger long enough for the Crucible to charge completely. Someone must stay
behind to ensure it goes off safely. Hackett or Shepard can decide to sacrifice themselves. Crucible
detonates correctly and kills the Reapers. The End.
  d) 100% EMS: Fleet holds Harbinger at bay. Crucible charges completely and countdown begins allowing Shepard
and Hackett to evacuate. Crucible detonates safely and kills the Reapers. The End.

14) Epilogue scenes which reflect the choices you made.

There could be an explanation that once the Geth/Quarian alliance is formed the Geth introduced a safeguard into the Crucible design that means they aren't affected by the blast. The Protheans could also have altered the Crucible based on the research at Ilos to only use the Mass Relays as a delivery system and not have them destroyed in the process.

No star-child, no faulty logic, decisions taken into account, varied endings, Harbinger and EMS playing a bigger role.

I would love it if your background (War Hero, Sole Survivor, Ruthless) affected the story more. You'd think the three backgrounds would act a little differently to the dream sequences. And of the dream sequences, it definitely feels like they should have had more of an impact on Shepard.

i agree with most of the ending stuff, but what IMO has been greatly neglected by the Series is the Systems Alliance, Maybe a throwback to something from the N7 Days, Finally meet Hannah Shepard? 1 email 2 phone calls and a news report, left me kinda curious to meet her... something more about our pre service history? or origin in general? there was bit of it in ME1 and i really enjoyed it...

  • Please, fix the journal
  • Please, more gameplay DLC (even for us, Single Players)
  • Please, then add more dialogue (meaning, not auto-dialogue)
  • Please, then also add more side quest (not fetch quest , thx ;-)
  • Please, please, please, use the forums as well. Not Twitter only
Many thanks in advance! :-)

If Chris Priestly, Jessica Merizan, or any other members of Bioware are reading this, then:

Remember the heroic theme songs of ME (Mass effect theme) and ME2 (Suicide mission)? Those gave the games a strong sense of heroism; facing down the unknown... the storm... And fighting it to the last... I mean, ME3 was successful in creating strong emotional scenarios, in fact I was really touched by some. (e.g. "Shepard Commander, Help us!" - Legion) However I found that ME and ME2 had the stronger air of an epic, especially in terms of music. Clint Mansell did a great job in the emotional piano pieces, but I preferred Jack Wall's and Sam Hulick's original themes. If 'suicide mission', 'Mass effect theme' or a remake of them were to be played in the extended cut DLC, I think that would make a lot of people happy.
